Sharon Salzberg presents Real Happiness

Meditation teacher Sharon Salzberg will be speaking in Amherst, MA on Saturday, October 29 at 3:30 pm. Sharon will talk about her new book, Real Happiness: The Power of Meditation: A 28-Day Program (Workman Press). The public is invited to attend at Grace Church on Amherst Common, 14 Boltwood Avenue. A donation of $7 - $20 is suggested, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

One of the leading teachers responsible for bringing Asian meditation practices to the West in the 1970s, Sharon founded -- along with Joseph Goldstein and Jack Kornfield -- the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Barre, MA. The afternoon will include a talk, meditation and Q & A time. Sharon's books will be available for purchase at the event thanks to Food for Thought bookstore in Amherst.

Sharon's book explores how we can live in a steady and open state of happiness, independent of life's changing circumstances. The first step is believing that it's possible, and the tools to accomplish are the basic skills of meditation, plus patience, perspective, and an ability to see things as they are.

This event is fundraiser for the Insight Meditation Center of Pioneer Valley, a community Buddhist center located at Eastworks in Easthampton. A good way to get to know Insight PV is to drop in to a weekly open sitting, Mondays at 5:30 pm or Wednesdays at 7:15 pm. 45 minutes of silent meditation is followed by an optional discussion. Meditation guidance is available upon request.
