The Many Health Benefits of Yoga

Posted: 14 Jan 2012 05:00 AM PST

Article by Leanne Smith

Yoga is not something new at all - in fact it's been part of human history for the last five thousand years or so. In the Western world, however, yoga is still in its early phase, and it's mostly the health conscious who have taken to the practice. Some people mistakenly think that yoga is just another get into shape and weight loss fad, similar to various exercise programs made popular by celebrity endorsements in the past. The truth, however, is that yoga cannot be simply categorised as exercise. It is a way of life, and it offers a more holistic take on the body's development and empowerment. It's not just another fad that will fade away in time. Yoga offers the strengthening of the body, the mind, and the spirit. It is quite unfortunate that in the West, most of the focus is on the "poses", wherein the body is stretched and contorted. Although the poses are authentic to yoga, they are not the end form of the practice. Yoga is the complete package, and it seeks to improve the body's physical form while also encouraging relaxation and spiritual rejuvenation. Yoga enthusiasts already know that there are health benefits to be gained from the practice. This is especially true if you have the good fortune to meet a true teacher who will impart not only the physical poses to you, but also the meditative part of yoga. The following health benefits will be yours, through yoga:

Improvement of the physical bodyThe easiest effect of yoga that practitioners can see and feel is the immediate improvement of the physical form. This is not in a weight loss sense alone, but in terms of becoming physically healthier. The poses in yoga can be quite demanding, and some are really difficult to perform. However, with constant practice, one's body will increase in flexibility.Being flexible is crucial to maintaining a healthy physical form. A flexible body is less likely to suffer internal injuries, and will not easily succumb to the pains of old age. Joint pains and muscle strain won't be your concerns as lon! g as you keep your body nimble, limber, and flexible with yoga. For the stressed out employees, yoga can loosen up your body. It releases the pent up tension, stress, and strain that your body suffers from. Your daily worries can contribute to physical problems, so yoga will help you release these problems and improve your health. Finally, constant yoga practice will undoubtedly help you achieve a slimmer and more toned body.

Emotional and spiritual relaxation

It's not just the body that needs help; the spirit needs to be rejuvenated, too. Practicing yoga is also a form of relaxation. There are certain resorts or vacation hotels that offer yoga retreats. Basically, a yoga retreat lets practitioners enjoy their daily routine while enjoying the beautiful scenery. In some cases, this change of pace doubles the impact of yoga, as it helps relieve the person of stress at well. Yoga retreats allow you to focus on meditation as well, which is just as important. True teachers of yoga know that meditation and the proper breathing techniques are necessary. These techniques help keep the body in balance and will help you improve your body and mind. For those who don't know, meditation has always been crucial to yoga, as early religious ascetics in India were the foremost practitioners. Stress hurts not just the body but also the spirit; yoga retreats can improve the health benefits delivered by yoga. Also, yoga retreats can bring you far away from your daily concerns. Even emotions and other baggage can harm the body, the mind, and the spirit. Yoga retreats help you leave everything behind.

AlertnessIf you thought yoga was just all about the physical and the emotional, then you were wrong. Our minds are constantly bogged down by worries and problems so we can't focus enough and use our full mental capacities. It's impossible to solve a problem when you've got five other things on your mind to worry about. Basically, everyone knows that worries keep the brain on overdrive. This is inefficient, as you might! get too wrapped up in the problems that you won't have time to actually think things through. Practicing yoga helps de-clutter the mind, as the meditation helps you regain your focus. More importantly, the holistic approach to body, mind, and spirit helps you improve your mental alertness while still working on your physical requirements.

A Fast Overview on Meditations on First Philosophy

Posted: 14 Jan 2012 02:00 AM PST

Article by Bulan Versluis

Rene Descartes is the writer of the e-book "Meditations on First Philosophy: In Which the Existence of God and The Real Difference of Thoughts and Frame are Demonstrated."

There are six meditations which have been discussed within the book.

First Meditation

"Your senses can lie to you." That is the principle element within the first meditation wherein it figures out how information with the usage of senses can every so often mislead you to achieving facts.

Right through this degree of meditation, the creator taught to himself that he is irate, dreaming, or even tricked by way of a demon. Therefore, he contemplated so as to struggle such approach of thinking.

2d Meditation

The focal point of the second one meditation is representation. Theoretically, it is termed as "representationalism." There have been five steps incorporated within the said thought through which it conveys detachment of the sector from one's mind.

The stated conception led to the concept that the awareness of a person to his atmosphere implies his own existence.

Third Meditation

On the 3rd meditation, the creator's focal point comes to the three basic kinds of concepts (1) Volition or Need; (2) Feelings or Affections; and (three) Judgment.

Volition is outlined as the power for you to select and decide mindfully. On the other hand, feeling is described as occurrence of soppy and emotional state. Alternatively, judgment is a condition the place a person forms an opinion after contemplation.

Fourth Meditation

Understanding the truth and fallacy is the search which the author undertook on the fourth meditation. He also pointed out that the typical sources of fault are will and understanding.

Working out takes the definition of a state during which a person comprehends emotions and actions round him. Descartes in his guide explained that such characteristic is now and again introduced by means of God in partial.

Will, then again, is a mental gift by ! which a person choose or make a decision in opposition to an action or event. If figuring out infrequently come partly as said via the writer, will can also be offered utterly or none in any respect by way of the Perfect Being.

5th Meditation

The notion of subject matter items issues the writer at the 5th meditation. He additionally mentioned 3 arguments underneath this class corresponding to:

1. God is the definition of a great best possible human being.2. Faultlessness is an crucial a part of subsistence.3. God exists.

Sixth Meditation

In the external environment of 1's self and God, there is a chance that fabrics exists. It's like announcing that such elements are present and real for the reason that God is capable of creating them.

All over the last meditation, the author arrives at three realities. First, there's a God who is infinite. Secondly, there's a soul. Thirdly, there are subject material parts or things. The second and the 3rd are out there, however with limits or restrictions. The writer also identifies a few irregularities in his meditation. He is still puzzled with why there is a feel in limbs which might be surgically got rid of, or why there are senses in goals and dropsy.

To fully understand the writings of Descartes at the mentioned e book, it is suggested that you totally read Meditations on First Philosophy.

Yoga For Healing

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 08:00 PM PST

Article by Linus Xavier

From ancient times, the purpose of yoga was to prepare the human body for enhanced spiritual enlightenment. Although today there is often still a strong spiritual element, the benefits of yoga for healing, for health and for general well being are more and more appreciated.

Many people who may not necessarily be spiritual, are finding a sense of peace and tranquillity while they participate in the yoga exercises, and then, a feeling of vitality and 'aliveness' afterwards.

An example of a merging of spiritual and healing exercises is to be found in the healing sun yoga. This yoga exercise is also known as Surya Namaskar or 'Sun Salutation'.

The exercise consists of twelve smoothly integrated poses. It is performed in warm sunlight. The body is warmed up, while the muscles and spinal column are gently flexed and strengthened.

These movements are among many healing yoga poses. Each pose in its own way works on muscle groups in such a way as to avoid strain yet stretch the body and greatly increase flexibility of both muscles and joints.

As time progresses with regular time spent on yoga, these muscles and joints become increasingly strong and supple.

It must become immediately clear to anyone who suffers from painful, stiff joints that the practise of yoga for people with arthritis can be of immense benefit.

It is becoming increasingly well known and accepted that for most diseases and disabling conditions exercising is absolutely vital. The problem for arthritis sufferers is that most forms of exercise are jarring to the joints and very painful indeed.

For this reason, therapeutic yoga stands alone as the gentlest and easiest way to exercise. No unnecessary stress is placed on the damaged joints, while the gradual and gentle easing encourages flexibility without pain or further harm.

At the same time, the muscles are stretched and built up so that they begin to build a effective support system for the joints and helps relieve the strain on them.!

I n order to enhance the flexibility of stiff joints and to decrease soreness, Hot yoga was developed. The exercises are performed in a room where the temperature is maintained at about 95-100 F [35-38 C]. This is extremely warm; it encourages perspiration and eases stiffness.

Bikram yoga is the method of Bikram Choudhury. He uses Hot yoga. He created a set of 26 yoga poses that can be executed in about 90 minutes, each exercise being performed twice.

So much for the physical benefits of yoga; hundreds of people throughout the ages can verify the spiritual aspects of yoga; very closely allied to this is the powerful emotional effect that yoga can have.

Yoga for emotional healing is as important as yoga for physical healing. In fact the two are inseparable. There is abundant evidence that physical well-being is hugely influenced by emotional well-being. The reverse is equally true.

With the importance of emotional and physical healing foremost in the minds of yoga masters, the significance of laughter yoga benefits has not been overlooked. The old adage 'laughter is the best medicine' has been proved over and over again to be so true.

Anyone who has just enjoyed a hearty bout of laughter can vouch for the fact that they emerge from it relaxed, revitalised and in a very positive frame of mind.

These days you will even find laughter yoga dvds available to help you explore the benefits and joy that laughter can give you.

If you are thinking of trying yoga for yourself, there are types of yoga for beginners. These are simple and gently progressive. But from the word 'go' you should be able to feel the immediate relaxation benefits and renewed vitality from even the 'beginner' exercises.

At the other end of the scale, Kundalini yoga is an advanced type of meditation and yoga. Kundalini yoga healing involves physical, mental and spiritual discipline that foster the growth of strength, awareness, character, and ultimately, consciousness.

Little to Know About How to Meditate

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 06:00 PM PST

Article by Jeet D Kun

People who have been training relaxation for meditation can see the results and those are living comfortably, quietly and having a sensible day-to-day life. Sometimes we miss thinking that the measures we create in our day-to-day life rely on our ideas, of how it has been over used or if it is comfortable. Good results in day-to-day life through relaxation can be tremendously beneficial and can help you be at your best and makes you feel that you are energized again. Looking at it, relaxation is the only way to convenience and relaxes your ideas through circumstances in day-to-day life.

You need to pin point your day-to-day routine.

Your room is an excellent example and an excellent way to execute meditation, where you are not disrupted and you can focus yourself in meditation. Personal time control is the key to make meditation effective; having some time effort suitable for relaxation can be an excellent way to start. Meditating does not mean you are going to do it just once, it is not; it only means that meditation is a constant procedure. Such as the procedure of relaxation with yourself or making it an addition to your life is a vital element that can help you have the convenience. Meditating with a different schedule every day is not recommended, as what is indicated you must create it a part of your day-to-day routine; an example to that is when you go to bed before you sleep, after when you woke up, or just simply when you are awaiting your bread to toast.

First timers found it immensely anxious discovering how to meditate. To put our mind to relaxation state is the most difficult element to do; this is because our brain is the busiest in our body. Fast paced individuals can get difficulties concentrating their awareness. To create it and make it happen with regards to being focus to relaxation, you must exercise consistently. Never force yourself to focus. If you are considering needless ideas, which is merely typical because the brain is working itself to relax.

Don't t hink as meditation will finish pointless. You have your own purpose and it has its advantages to offer to you. If you are an active person, you may want to reflect with these relaxation methods on the go guidelines:

1. When jogging, you may execute the walking rmeditation. Never execute the walking relaxation if you are jogging in woodlands or going to one, you should move to a crystal clear course where there are no boundaries that may result to injure you. This walking meditation has the basic idea of conceptualizing of the sensation of the street at when you are taking a step, the little appears to be of the issues around you and the rate of your center lung inhaling. The discovery of new feelings is the main idea in this kind of meditation along with walking.

2. You can also do the down time meditation, if you have short breaks during the day. From the term itself, "downtime" you may do this during a short period of time. For example, when that you are in a lift waiting for you to be on the ground or waiting your bread to toast. You have to be engaged with issues that encompass you, that would be an element to have you prepared for meditation. The methods that you have to execute will give you an advantage and will get you comfortable and prepared for the day.

If you are having your relaxation initially, you have to focus. Meditation audio is there to help you on how to meditate. Your objective should be real and you should exercise by and in the center. Focus and awareness will complete description of meditation.

Jessica Talisman: Life Expansion with Yoga

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 05:00 PM PST

Article by Boyd Martin

Charmingly diminutive, yet sturdy and tanned with an angelic face, Jessica Talisman's widely varied background and travels have brought her into orbit around yoga as her central balancing force. Two childhood passions, horses and the inner workings of government, brought her unique experiences that seemed to share an unlikely common denominator.

By the age of six, Jessica was riding horses. Thrilled by the communication and teamwork between animal and human, it was her first introduction to body mechanics and the art of movement. While in high school during summers, Jessica worked as a page in the U.S. Senate, experiencing first-hand the intricate and fast-paced communication, movement, and teamwork inherent in the ways of government. A fascination for teaching also surfaced during these years, as well as a deep respect for history and the experiences of her elders.

It was the horse that ultimately led Jessica to seek out yoga intensively. Jessica had been exposed to yoga via her grandmother, and an aunt who ran her own Iyengar yoga studio in Vermont. But yoga soon became a necessary medical option for Jessica. While attempting to ride a newly broken horse, Jessica was thrown over the horse's head, face first, to the ground and then stomped on. The horse's hooves had come down directly on Jessica's sacrum, shattering it. Because of the nature of the break, surgery was not an option, and healing was slow and painful. Eventually, the bones repaired, but had grown together offset to the right creating obvious body stress, and aggravating longstanding double sciatica Jessica had suffered since childhood.

With discipline and determination, Jessica pursued Iyengar yoga in an attempt to recover her spinal health so she could get back on a horse. It worked, and soon Jessica was riding competitively once again, although she still coped with pain.

Attracted to the beauty and lifestyle of the Pacific Northwest, Jessica moved to Portland, Oregon, in 1995, and discovered Bikram yoga th! e next y ear. As she practiced yoga, she pursued her Masters Degree in Teaching from Portland's Lewis & Clark College, and following that, worked as a horse-riding instructor in a nearby suburb for all ages from 6-60. Jessica became more and more impressed with the results she was getting in her Bikram yoga practice, and soon decided, in 1999, to take the Bikram Yoga instructor training in Los Angeles with a goal of opening her own studio in Portland.

The training was rigorous and most of it was delivered personally by Bikram Choudhury. With her expectations set relative to the laid-back style of Bikram Yoga taught in Portland at the time, Jessica was in for a shock. "It was a rude awakening, really--a good rude awakening," says Jessica. "I seriously felt like I was in the dark. But then after the first month, it was like a movie where the light came down--you could hear angels singing. The whole concept of Bikram was that you had to go through hell to get to heaven."

"There were 40 students in class, and the studio was above a furniture store on Wilshire and Robertson. We really had a unique experience in that we had Bikram for most posture clinics, and he taught us most of the time, so it was definitely intense. Now they have these huge rooms."

Finally, Jessica's spinal issues resolved after the training, but she found that only with continued yoga practice did the issues stay resolved. Attendant to that benefit Jessica found she didn't need to sleep as many hours... "Which was a big thing for me," she points out. "There is a certain balance in a daily approach, which is good and bad. I found if I didn't get a yoga class in for a week, then I'd definitely feel off-balance. That's something where I'm trying to find balance now. But it's very interesting, when you first start yoga, you feel like crap, you feel awful, and you feel like you shouldn't feel that way; all those same feelings come back when you don't do the yoga, and it's interesting how it comes full circle like that."

Bikr! am talks about this effect in his book, Bikram's Beginning Yoga Class. The concept of "Yoga with interest" is introduced where the student is able to collect well-being "credits" while practicing their yoga to cash in later when not practicing. These "credits" are especially valuable in today's modern world of "convenience" where a combination of sedentariness and hurry-up stress can quickly take its toll physically.

After her training with Bikram, Jessica taught at one of the two Bikram studios in Portland. But soon, she felt the calling to start her own studio. "I wanted to bring yoga to a community that didn't have any, which was Beaverton (a Portland suburb). It was also out of respect that I opened far enough away from the other studios in town," says Jessica. "And I just had a drive to create a practice that embodied what I experienced."

Of course, when creating anything with intention, people and the universe will throw up all manner of "reasons" why it just can't be. And when it comes to offering humans an opportunity for self-development, these "reasons" can become overwhelming. Jessica got her fair share. "I think that was something that I wasn't prepared for," Jessica relates. "But, it has taught me the biggest lesson of all. You'll have people that run out the door, running the other way, screaming down the street, 'Get me out of here, this is awful.' I mean, every single reaction and color of the rainbow. And because it was a personal investment in creating the space, it was easy to take it personally. What I've come to realize is that this is an entity totally separate from myself. What I did was create a space--all feng shui'd out--that is friendly and open, and inviting to practices. Beyond that, everything just takes care of itself."

Jessica has several comments to make about the Americanization of yoga. "I think it's really sad. We've Westernized it. We've made it into a bunch of guys wearing little shorts, greasing up their bodies and doing yoga videos in some cheesy loft in ! Soho. Th e true nature of yoga is all based on lineage. Bikram's been studying yoga since he was three or four, and comes from a lineage. So for some of these people who study for three or four years and then going off saying, 'I've created my own yoga,' is disrespectful." She further comments on the American habit of historical myopia, which is embodied in the culture's deplorable treatment of its elders and its manic worship of youth--a subject that also puts Bikram himself on a soapbox frequently.

Jessica is currently in the process of turning her studio over to new owners, who recently completed their training and are very passionate about the work. She sees it as a life expansion. "You get to a point with anything--and especially with yoga--that it leads you to growth. It leads you to what is the next step," declares Jessica. Her post-ownership activities will include continuing to teach, create and run seminars on yoga, organize and direct vacation yoga retreats, and assist with instructor training at Bikram's L.A. headquarters. Jessica intends to write a book about her experiences with Bikram yoga, as well as the Iyengar and Ashtanga forms of yoga she has practiced. The book will communicate the deep nature of the yoga experience in her life, and hopefully inspire others to take that path.

Beginning Meditation

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 04:00 PM PST

Article by Howard VanEs

In its' simplest description, meditation can be described as a process of quieting your mind so that you can come into contact with quiet and peace that is always available to you inside. A regular practice of meditation offers many benefits including: overall stress reduction, activation of the parasympathetic nervous system (relaxation response), clearer thinking, more creative thinking, helps to quiet the mind, fosters an increased sense of peace and contentment, helps to balance the emotions, provides a connection to your Spirit. An ongoing practice of meditation also helps to provide a context for observing thinking patterns and emotions as well as an opportunity to cultivate peace and relaxation. Hundreds of modern research studies now confirm what the yogis new 5000 years ago! There are various ways to meditate and they usually involve as point of focus such as your breath, a mantra or visualization. A variety of techniques are explained below. Before you try them there are a few guidelines that are helpful to be aware of. The first has to do with time and place. It is ideal to meditate at the same time and the same place each time you meditate. In this way you create an association of meditating and peacefulness with the space you have chosen. Each time you come back to this space, you will anticipate the experience of meditation. Additionally, by using the same time and space, you will be developing a habit. This is important to nurture as the consistency of your practice is most important, even if it is just ten minutes a day. Dawn and dusk are traditional times to meditate, but anytime can work. Begin with ten to twenty minutes and work up to forty-five minutes if possible. Another consideration regarding time is knowing when to stop. Some people just let their inner clock guide them while others prefer to use and alarm clock so they don't have to be concerned about the time. If you practice regularly, you will most likely find that your sense of time becomes exquisite, and you will ! automati cally know when it is time to stop meditating. A comfortable and stable sitting position is also important. The classic meditation posture is the lotus position. The reason for this is that is quite stable and the spine held erect. However most people in the West are not comfortable in this position. The truth is that any stable seated posture can work – even sitting in a chair. Placing a folded blanket or meditation cushion under your sitz bones also makes sitting more comfortable. Some people find that their back muscles aren't strong enough and begin to ache when they sit in one position for more than a few minutes. If this is happening to you then sit near a wall and when you feel you can no longer hold your back upright comfortably then move against the wall and you will get the support you need. Whichever way you chose to sit just make sure it is stable, comfortable, and that your head neck and spine are in one line, and erect. As you begin meditate it is common to have any or all of the following experiences: 1.You mind wonders. This is quite natural and expected. Just bring yourself back to your point of focus.2.You are not sure if you are doing it right. You are most likely doing it right. Meditation is pretty simple to do – more challenging to stay with. 3.You will have memories, images or thoughts that you may have not thought about in years. Just acknowledge them and bring your awareness back to your point of focus. 4.You start to analyze yourself. Remember this is a time for meditation not for psychotherapy. Analyze later, meditate now. 5.You have certain revelations. Again, acknowledge these and then bring yourself back to your point of focus. 6.A body part is sore or itchy. The first time you feel something in your body, just acknowledge it and bring your awarness back to your point of focus. Often, it will go away. If it continues to irritate you then change your body positions. Meditation Techniques Below are two classic meditation techniques. Feel free to try both and see which works! best fo r you. Ideally you will want to start with ten to twenty minutes and overtime you can work up to forty-five minutes if you like. A daily practice yields the most benefit and progress. It is better to practice for fifteen minutes every day than to practice for one hour once a week.Your mind is like any other muscle - the more your exercise it the stronger it becomes! Focusing on a sound or mantra In this method a sound or "mantra" is repeated over and over and over again, either silently or outloud. The mantra becomes a point of focus or "object". A universal mantra is "Om" which is said to be the sound of creation. Another is "Ham (pronounced "hung") "Sa" which means "I am that" - referring to spirit. Ham is said as you inhale and Sa as you exhale. The breathing is relaxed and easy through your nostrils Just keep bringing your awarness back to the mantra as you find your mind wondering. Remember, there is no need to beat yourself up for this as it is a natural phenomenon. Overtime you will find that mind wonders less and less. Some people like to use their own words such as "peace", "love" or "let go". If you have a special word or short group of words that has meaning for you, try using it. Focusing on your breath: Breathing in through your nostrils and though your nostrils, notice the feeling of the breath at the very point it enters your nose and follow the feelings of the air moving into your nasal passage to appoint where it ends. As you begin to exhale, notice where in your nasal passages you first notice your breath again and trace the feeling of your breath to the point where it exits your nostrils. Continue to notice your breath in this way, gently bringing your attention back to your breath when you catch your mind wondering. Another version of this technique is focus on the feeling of your torso moving in and out as your inhale and exhale. One last point. It is sometimes very helpful to practice with others. Consider finding a meditation class at a nearby yoga studio or parks ! and recr eation department. Practicing with like minded people and a good instructor can be very inspiring!

Why Hypnosis Is Better For Stress Than Meditating

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 04:00 PM PST

Article by Silvia Hartmann

***** Stress Is The Life Killer

Stress is the greatest problem for people in the modern world, and it's much worse than just health problems such as heart attacks that are brought on by too much stress for way too long.

Stress impacts EVERYTHING.

Stress kills our libido, our enjoyment of life; stress causes disturbed emotions of anger, rage, sadness and depression; stress makes us clumsy; stress causes us to make mistakes and worst of all, stress makes us think stupid thoughts (we become "stress stupid") and it cuts off the internal flow to our creative and innate talents and abilities.

It is clear that we ALL need to de-stress, whether we are teenagers who suffer from acne and migraines as a result of stress, men and women in "anger management", authors who suffer from writer's block, business people who burst a blood vessel, or parents at home who aren't enjoying their kids but end up screaming at them instead.

So how do we de-stress, and urgently, and FAST?

***** Why Stress & Meditation Are At Odds

Many hold that meditating and meditation is the answer to stress.Meditating and meditation is the act of entering into altered states of consciousness, to widen our conscious awareness and to re-connect with the superconsciousness of our energy mind (subconscious mind, subconsciousness).

This does not happen when we are stressed - a person under stress is like a TV that isn't tuning properly. Everything is disturbed, mad, doesn't fit together, there is no clarity.

Trying to meditate when you are stressed is like trying to be romantic with a pick axe embedded in your forehead - try as you might, it's not going to work very well if ever at all.

So we have the classic Catch 22 and another big stressor to add to all of that stress - a stressed person is TOLD to relax and go away and meditate, but they can't meditate because they're way too stressed!

***** Why Hypnosis Is The Best For Stress

Long before a person who is under a lo! t of str ess can even BEGIN to enjoy harp music to relax them even further, they need to be made to slow down into other states of being, and for that you need HELP.

"A good talking to" by a sympathetic other is the most NATURAL way of getting rid of stress invented by human kind, and it even exceeds physical touch approaches in high stress situations; it precedes them too. We "talk" a potential suicide victim DOWN from the top of a building, not massage them off; we "talk" an angry man with a gun down into lowering it, we don't pat him on the back.

That is exactly where hypnosis comes in to help with stress.

Hypnosis is DESIGNED to assist people to ENTER INTO AN ALTERED STATE of meditation - that is the first purpose of hypnosis, and its speciality.

Often people get confused by the "instructions" or the content of hypnosis - the post hypnotic suggestions for change that take all the attention, but it is the fact that hypnosis brings people into the restful meditative state where they even become RECEPTIVE to suggestions, ideas, visions and new thoughts is where the power of hypnosis to heal the mind actually lies.

***** From Hypnosis To Meditation - Breaking The Stress Loop

"Going into trance" is something that we learn and we are taught when a hypnotist talks to us, and talks us down from the stress of the thoughts that fly here, there and everywhere, into a relaxed state of clarity, and peace, where your body is at ease and mind healing can finally begin.

THE MORE HYPNOSIS YOU DO, THE BETTER YOU GET AT RELAXING.

It is a learned skill that gets ever better with practice.

So my recommendation to combat stress, and to learn how to relax and EVENTUALLY to be able to meditate successfully, which then leads to being able to control one's own stress levels in the real world and to be able to relax and de-stress even in the middle of a stressful situation, is to DO HYPNOSIS - and LOTS OF IT.

Rather than to hopelessly try and "find inner peace" so necessary f! or mind healing without guidance, do hypnosis inductions. This is as easy as sitting down in a chair, putting on the headphones and letting the hypnotist do their job.

Hypnosis CDs, mp3s and tapes are readily and freely available; there are MANY free downloads and trial downloads available.

Try many, and if you find a hypnotist that YOU GET ON WITH, someone you find relaxing to listen to and who can make you feel safe, relaxed and you can feel your stress begin to drain away as they speak with you, you have struck "Anti-Stress Gold".

Now you have a tool to help you break out of the stress loop.Use this hypnotist to de-stress you regularly and as often as you possibly can.

You will find after a few repetitions that you LEARN TO LEARN TO RELAX and HOW YOU DO THAT.

Now, you are ready to start meditating on your own.

***** Anti-Stress Meditation In The Moment

When you are out and about in your daily environment and you notice your stress levels rising, remember your hypnotist and what they said, just for a moment. Find out if you can feel your stress beginning to flow away. Even if your stress abates just a little bit, you can know that you are now on your way - you have started to learn to control your states of being, your states of mind.

This is the beginning of a new stress free life.

Life will ALWAYS be stressful.

We need to learn to be able to notice when we're stressed, and to step back from that into the clarity of altered states.

That is what hypnosis teaches you, teaches you easily, and just for the listening, no willpower required at all.

When you have learned the basics of relaxation, THEN and only THEN are you ready to begin to meditate on your own, or to use meditation devices that require these basic skills of knowing how to shift state in the first place.

***** Hypnosis, Stress & Meditation - In Conclusion

Using hypnosis for stress relief doesn't mean that you should only look at hypnosis programs designed for st! ress alo ne. Remember that what you want to learn is the skill of altering your states of being, so that you can also then meditate and get all the health benefits from that; but more importantly even still, so that you can de-stress yourself in REAL LIFE.

You can choose ANY good hypnotist, and ANY good hypnosis program that excites you, in a double benefit, because it is not the CONTENT, but the hypnosis skills themselves you need to learn to put an end to being in stress states all the time.

You can choose intelligence enhancing hypnosis programs; mind healing programs; performance programs, health programs - the CONTENT is irrelevant and just the icing on the cake.

Hypnosis is a WONDERFUL and incredibly USEFUL tool for dealing with the human mind, for healing the mind, and for getting our thoughts and conscious mind under control.

Explore. Find a GOOD hypnotist who can teach you the life saving skill of going into trance, and you get control not just of your stress, but of your entire WORLD.

Why Meditate? The Amazing Benefits Of Meditation

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 03:00 PM PST

Article by Susan Masters

The modern world comes with an incredible range of possibilities, challenges and, let's not forget, with a wide selection of responsibilities. Are we ready to face them all, to deal with them all? The fact is that this modern world is overwhelming and therefore, we tend to get tired, weak and stressed. But is there a solution to all these effects of the modern world?

Undoubtedly, meditation is the one that can reduce best all these aspects of a busy, dynamic and active lifestyle, a lifestyle that implies, besides all the successes and satisfactions, an additional package of worries and, of course, stress.

Creating a Compensatory World with the Help of Meditation

So, we started from the fact that nowadays, the world is busy, overwhelming and, in addition, very, very fast. We are all running, we are all trying to keep up with life's dynamic rhythm. So, how can meditation help? Simply. Meditation comes as a simple and efficient salvation that allows us to detach from the fast and demanding real world.

Let's think that meditation somehow creates a compensatory world, an imaginary world that is created by us and it is created the way we like it. Our meditation world can be anything, from a vision, a fantasy, a trip to a place we love - or, why not, a trip to home, an introspection into our souls and minds, an analysis of a concept and whatever else it might bring us peace. How many often do we get the chance to do all these things in our real life? Not enough - and this is precisely why we need meditation. Analyzed from this perspective, meditation implies developing a better spiritual and intellectual life, it implies imagining, visualizing, creating - but creativity and imagination are not the only advantages or benefits of meditation.

A Better Psychological and Physical Life

The modern world affects us at a psychological level. How? We tend to develop anxiety, frustration, complexes and, even worse, depression. And the good news is that meditation can fight a! gainst a ll these. Besides, meditation helps is lose our increased irritability, gain emotional stability, a good mood and a general peace of mind. More understanding and tolerance towards the world are other psychological benefits of meditation that can help us develop a healthier and more positive relationship with the others.

The physical or health-related benefits of meditation can not be neglected either. In fact, most individuals find them the most relevant ones. But what health problems can be improved by meditating? The scientific and experimental facts show that meditation has a great role in accelerating the metabolism, improving the skin and its resistance, dropping the cholesterol and cortisol, decreasing high blood pressure, decreasing the aging process and improving the breathing problems, as a result of the breathing exercises. In general, meditating implies, above all these, the desire for a healthier lifestyle, a lifestyle that can only affect our health in a positive way.

As shown above, the benefits of meditation do not simply reflect at a single level - meditation is a process that affects us entirely and that presents gains at multiple levels: the psychological level, the spiritual level, the health/body level and the intellectual level.

Discover How Meditation Can Help in the Management of Pain

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 02:00 PM PST

Article by Grant Ramey

Would you like to have at-call access to a very simple, yet extremely effective pain management tool that you can use for some pain relief throughout your day?

Would you like a tool that can help you get some relief from your pain so that you can focus your attention onto what you are doing, rather than the pain?

A tool that you can help you achieve this is: meditation.

You may not have associated meditation with pain relief before, but you will soon discover that meditation has many benefits, including management of pain.

Meditation is a very useful tool for helping you to relax and also to help you get relief from your pain.

Meditation is simply the act of focusing the mind on one thing and excluding all other thoughts. There are many different meditation "techniques" (formal and informal), but essentially they all seek to attain a similar result.

Meditation assists in reducing stress, anxiety and physical tension. It improves health, wellbeing and assists in the healing process and pain treatment.

Meditation is great for stress management. You will experience, relaxation, increased awareness, mental focus, clarity and a sense of peace if meditation is practiced regularly. Some other benefits of meditation include an increase in self-confidence and decrease in muscle tension (including pain resulting from muscle tension) and headaches.

There are many ways that you can meditate. The most common way is to sit in a comfortable position, keeping your spine straight and vertical. Sitting upright on a chair is an easy and comfortable position to meditate in. It doesn't really matter what position you are in, whether it be sitting, lying down, reclining or lying on the Embodi-Cloud, as long as you are comfortable and in a position you can maintain for about 20 minutes or more.

To meditate, focus on something until your attention goes beyond the random thoughts that may be occurring in your mind.

You could focus on one of the following.! .. - You r breath - A mantra - A guided visualisation - A solid object (usually a candle flame or flower) - A picture (usually a mandala which is a highly colored symmetrical painting)

You are not usually aware of all the mental activity in your mind. Focus and allow your mind activity to settle down. If you find yourself caught up in a thought pattern gently bring yourself back to the object of your focus. During the meditation, it is normal to experience itches and other body sensations - if this occurs relax and simply observe.

You may find meditation a little difficult at first but, with practice, twenty minutes will pass extremely quickly. You may even choose to prolong each meditation session.

As long as you achieve your goal of settling emotions, "uncluttering" your mind, relieving stress and achieving a refreshed and tranquil state, the precise method used for meditation is not particularly important.

The practice of meditating will result in you becoming more peaceful, calm and focused.

Tips For Choosing Yoga Training Courses

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 01:00 PM PST

Article by Rebecca Prescott

Yoga in Western countries may have started life as a something of a hippy niche, but over the last 20 years, it has entered the mainstream at a phenomenal rate. With this popularization of an ancient Indian tradition, there has been a huge growth in organizations offering yoga teacher training. Gone are the days when students had to travel to India to gain qualifications. But the plethora of courses has created its' own problems - not least in the question of quality and whether a course is recognized by the appropriate local and international associations. The prospective student must also ask themselves a number of important questions, the most fundamental of which is the type of yoga they wish to be trained in. But also, the wider question of what direction they wish to take their training in once completed. This article will address all of these points, and help provide a framework with which students may better choose amongst the many courses offered.

There are more styles of yoga available today than there has possibly been ever. Some represent a continuation of older traditions, that are relatively unchanged. This includes hatha yoga, and styles by Desikachar and Iyengar. Others represent a synthesis of different methods, even whilst being shrouded in mystical origins. For example, some have suggested that Ashtanga yoga is not derived from the yoga Korunta, but from a synthesis of traditions that may have included early acrobatics!

Some styles of yoga are very modern, and evolved more out of an adaptation to the West. Bikram yoga is a good example of this - and perhaps a very extreme one, given that Bikram copyrighted 'his' yoga poses and they way they were taught, despite yoga being essentially in the public domain.

Most people who train as teachers in yoga do so in a discipline that they have been practising already. This does make logical sense, as it's important to be passionate about what you do for a living. There is the additional experience that people will have w! ith a pa rticular style of yoga that no doubt makes it easier than starting from scratch in a different style.

But other issues may come into play when choosing a yoga school. Is the style of yoga you like well supported in your area? Is there sufficient demand for that style? Understanding who these particular styles of yoga appeals to will help later on when you set up your own yoga business, as it will guide your marketing, choice of location, logo, and business identity. It's worth thinking a little bit about these things before you make a time and financial commitment to getting qualified.

Finding out whether your course is accredited nationally and internationally is an important step. There are various governing associations at different levels around the world. For example, in the UK there is the British Wheel Of Yoga. In Australia, the government keeps a list of accredited training courses through the Australian National Training Authority. For a yoga specific association, try the Yoga Teachers Association of Australia. Globally, there is the International Yoga Teachers Association, which is available in many countries. There is also the American Yoga Association, Yoga Scotland, and the European Union Of Yoga.

Each of these organizations may have different standards by which they measure courses. But they do provide a good guideline for selecting providers with a minimum level of professionalism, integrity, and quality. You could look at contacting teachers who have gone through their training to find out what they thought of the course, and perhaps go to a few of their classes to get a feel for what is being taught.

Before going into any course, it's a good idea to have some sense of the bigger picture. For example, are you looking at combining yoga with other healing modalities, such as massage, nutrition, meditation, or some combination of all of these. There are some teaching colleges that integrate yoga with other modalities, both locally and abroad in India. For the sake of ! continui ty, and ease of integration, it may be easier to look at this before any study is actually done. It may prove easier to study with an all-in-one provider who will provide a clearer way to integrate these different aspects of health.

In some ways, this broad integration of yoga with health is more closely aligned with the true nature of yoga, according to some teachers such as Desikachar. But Indian style yoga is not the only one that offers this approach, with the Japanese ki, or Ki yoga often integrated with macrobiotics and shiatsu.

If you're interested in going more deeply into yoga training for your own personal practice, as opposed to a prelude to teaching, studying abroad can be a truly rewarding experience. If you're looking for teaching qualifications, it may be wiser to choose an institution in your own country, at least initially. Because it should be adapted to Western learning styles, the structured environment it provides will be easier to learn in.

Yoga training can be intensely rewarding, and life changing in many ways. Provided you choose a course that is accredited, in a style of teaching you like, and that has good community support, it could be the start of a great new career.

The Zen Meditation Instruction You Need To Get Started

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 12:00 PM PST

Article by Susan Masters

If you want to experience a bit from the life of the Buddhism monks, than the first thing you need is an efficient Zen meditation instruction. Zen meditation can be a great alternative to the more classic forms of meditation and even though it might be stricter, it can be fully enjoyed, especially after some weeks of practice.

What Does Zen Refer to?

In order to fully understand any Zen meditation instruction, you need to understand the basis of this practice. Zen is an actual form of Buddhism which is relying more on experimental facts and wisdom, as well as on the practice of Zen mediation, also known under the name of Zazen.

Zen meditation starts from the typical position called lotus which has numerous variations, such as half-lotus or seiza - also, there is the kinhin posture, which refers to meditating while walking. This practice is divided into Rinzai Zen and Soto Zen, which use different techniques, postures and adjacent objects in order to complete the meditation session. In a Zen meditation, the correct position and the breathing are essential.

An Efficient Beginner Zen Meditation Technique

The first Zen meditation instruction you need to be aware of is that you simply have to sit and empty your mind. This might sound easier that it actually is. In order to do that, you need to find the correct position - and it is advisable to start with the classic lotus position, meaning keeping your legs crossed in front of you, your hands in your lap and your spine erect. The purpose of this erect position is to make sure you don't fall asleep.

The next Zen meditation instruction refers to contemplating. You can start with contemplating or simply looking at your left hand and gradually move on to looking at your arm. Your thoughts should be blank and you should push all potential thoughts away. Gradually, acknowledge your left part of the body, feel it and sense it as intense as possible.

With the help of this Zen Meditation instruction, you will acti! vate the left part of your brain and so, your thoughts will basically disappear. At this point, you need to start your breathing session. Firstly, breathe in as slowly as possible and then breathe out the same way though your nostrils. Gradually, you have to push your inhalation and exhalation even deeper, taking bigger and longer inhales and exhales.

The goal of the Zen meditation program and of each Zen meditation instruction is to activate the left part of the brain, the part that is responsible for thinking, logic and science. If you want to start a Zen meditation program, then you need to make sure you apply each Zen meditation instruction correctly, in order to achieve that state of stillness and emptiness that is considered to be the ultimate Zazen goal.

This type of meditation tends to be stricter than other freer forms of anti-stress meditation, for example, but the results can be truly rewarding. Good luck and enjoy your new Zen meditation program!

The Power Of Meditation

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 11:00 AM PST

Article by Adam Hunt

Purpose for meditation:

What is the goal of meditation? The goal of meditation is not to end or remove the stimulation. It is more a training of the mind to direct focus and concentration to one element. This single element may be a single sound, a single word or thought, a single image or even the person's own breathing. Calmness and peace are brought into the mind's focus, and thereby replace feelings of worry, stress and depression. Negative thoughts can be replaced with positive ones in this manner.

Benefits of Meditation:

There are numerous physical and psychological benefits to meditation. As the body rests, the heart rate lowers, as does the metabolic rate and stress is dramatically decreased. Many negative physical and physiological reactions related to stress are decreased or eradicated altogether. Concentration is increased and memory is improved. Additionally, anxiety, depression, moodiness and irritability are decreased while feelings of vitality, happiness, rejuvenation and emotional stability are improved.

There are many forms of meditation and, although it has its origins in the Eastern cultures, the West is quickly learning the benefits of this relaxing practice. Most people think of meditation as some guy sitting on a pillow, legs crossed, eyes closed, humming. However, meditation can be done while sitting on a chair, lying down, sitting at your desk, or just about anywhere.

While the many different forms of meditation are as diverse as their styles, there is one thing that they have in common: they focus on calming and quietening a chaotic, busy mind.

What is the goal of meditation? The goal of meditation is not to end or remove the stimulation. It is more a training of the mind to direct focus and concentration to one element. This single element may be a single sound, a single word or thought, a single image or even the person's own breathing. This is designed to bring calm and peace to the mind by making it focus so that worry, stress and d! epressio n are pushed aside. Negative thoughts can be replaced with positive ones in this manner.

All of the meditation methods can be grouped into one of two different categories, or styles. The first of these styles of meditation is concentrative. This means that the attention is focused on the breath, an image or a sound such as a mantra to still the mind and heighten awareness and clarity. Certain types of music can do this.

Concentrative meditation is the most popular style of meditation. The person sits quietly and focuses their attention on the breath, known as "conscious breathing." This type of meditation is very good for relieving anxiety, stress and distraction because it causes the person to focus and relax.

To perform conscious breathing, sit in a chair or on a pillow on the floor. Close your eyes and breath in deeply through your mouth while saying to yourself, "I am breathing in." When you exhale through your nose (or mouth), say to yourself, "I am breathing out." Picture positivity being breathed in with each breath you take and negativity being expelled each time you exhale. Absorb yourself in the act of breathing in and out, think of nothing else.

The other type of meditation is mindfulness meditation. This type of meditation involves raising your awareness of all the sensations, feelings, images, thoughts, sounds and smells that you encounter each day. However, you do not dwell on them or become involved in thinking about them. The person simply sits quietly and observes the activity of the mind without being drawn into reacting to it or becoming involved in negative reactions to it such as depression or worry. Through this exploration, the person gains a clearer, calmer state of mind that is non-reactive as opposed to bogged down in worry and depression.

A Yoga DVD Provides Three Different Levels Of Expertise

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 10:00 AM PST

Article by Ann Marier

Yoga DVD's are hosted by knowledgeable yoga experts that guide the listener through the series of exercises. The instructional DVD's will be intended for different skill levels from beginner to advanced and something to challenge nearly everyone.

Beginners

Choosing the right yoga DVD to begin with is as simple as looking for the words beginner on the packaging. Choosing an AM/PM regiment for beginners or a total body yoga program would probably be best for people who have never taken a yoga class. These types of yoga DVD's will teach the basic poses making learning more advanced yoga techniques possible.

Other choices for beginner yoga DVD's include those for back support, weight loss, stomach sculpting, children, and seniors. Each instructor uses a calming well paced voice to lead the listener through yoga stretches and poses, helping them to make the essential, body mind connection. Some yoga DVD's have different sections within them, which will allow the person learning yoga to use a more difficult variation of their routine as they become stronger. They also have an advanced routine with the same poses teaching the person how to gradually advance their flexibility and stamina.

Intermediate

Intermediate yoga DVD's are intended for people who already know many of the basic yoga poses and are fit and limber enough to not be challenged by beginner exercises any longer. Intermediate DVD's will have challenging poses that will deeply stretch the muscles and can help over all health. Yoga DVD's are intended to bring the health benefits of yoga to anyone who is interested in learning the art form. Power yoga is a combination of cardiovascular exercises and intermediate to advanced yoga poses that give the entire body a feeling of wellness and exhilaration.

Advanced

Advanced yoga DVD's are intended to challenge people who have been working at the intermediate level long enough to need deeper stretches and to learn more exercise and relaxation techniques. Some ! Advanced yoga DVD's will give the person practicing yoga the skill-set to create their own routine. Some of these forms can include yoga trance dancing, total body power yoga, and complete body yoga routines. Most of these allow the individuals to express themselves by combining their yoga poses in different combinations.

Yoga DVD's can be a fun and easy way to learn yoga, supplement yoga lessons, continue learning yoga in between locations when traveling or moving to a new city or state. Yoga is a fun, relaxing way to exercise the body and mind. People all over America are using yoga to be more physically fit and to escape from the daily stress of a fast paced life.

Top 7 Meditation Tips

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 09:00 AM PST

Article by Trevor John

People think that meditation is hard and that you need to be a full time monk to be able to meditate properly.

That's simply not true.

Absolutely anyone can learn how to meditate quickly and easily. You don't have to go through an elaborate ritual to be able to meditate. Put simply, meditation is way to get in touch with your inner self.

Here are some tips to make your meditation even easier:

1. Choose the right teacher. Whether you are learning meditation with an online course or in a local group, pick a teacher you get on with and one who is teaching the kind of methods you get along with.

2. Learn to relax your body. As a typical tensed up westerner, this may be the biggest skill you need to learn. But once you learn how to relax, you'll find meditation so much easier. By the way, don't stress yourself about learning to relax either!

3. Take it easy. No-one is going to give you a SATS test on meditation. It doesn't matter if you take longer to learn meditation that someone else. It's absolutely fine if you take your time to learn a technique. Everyone has their own speed of learning.

4. Respect yourself and others. Treat yourself and others respectfully. If you find yourself attracting negative people, change the signals you're sending out (meditating regularly will help with this).

5. Get rid of distractions. Turn off your cell phone while you are meditating. Close down that chat window. Turn off the television (that's good advice anyway, whether for meditating or not).

6. If possible, join a meditation group. Meditation is much more fun in a group and you'll find that others are finding the same learning curve as you are. Groups generate their own energy - the sum of the whole truly is greater than the sum of the parts. Joining a group can widen your circle of friends and can be a booster to your confidence. Depending on the group's aim, you may also learn about different meditation techniques as the group progresses.

7. Simply let! go. The word "meditation" means trying to let go. Go with the flow. Allow what is happening to happen. Don't fixate on exactly what your meditation experience should or shouldn't be.

Understanding The Different Types Of Yoga

Posted: 13 Jan 2012 08:00 AM PST

Article by Cindy Heller

There are many different types of yoga and each has its own traits and benefits. By picking up the fundamental on each and every type of yoga, you can determine what is suitable for you.

Hatha Yoga is one of the most widespread and it a divine practice that concentrates on the physical aspects to derive mental, emotional and physical health. It goes back to the fifteenth century and founded by Yogi Swatmarama, a wise teacher. Hatha yoga is called "hatha vidya" with "ha" means the sun and "tha" implies the moon and together they are the "nadis" or the flow of energy in the body and must work to achieve "dhyana" a feature of meditation.

The full notion of the ancient hatha yoga is a divine path that encompasses moral and ethics, exercises, breathe control and meditation. Hatha yoga practices that are taken up by western practitioners largely concentrate on poses. Both hatha and raja yoga concentrate on the physical aspects and are collectively known as astanga yoga.

The key difference is that raja yoga concentrate on "asanas" or poses to prepare the body for extended meditation.

On the other hand, Hatha yoga creates harmony in the mind and body through exercises, breathe control as well as relaxing the mind by relaxing and meditating. Adopting different poses can ease or prevent health troubles from constipation to cancer.

Raja yoga is known as king of yoga and is also referring to as "Classical yoga" or "Astanga yoga". It is a practice that has to do with the stimulus and harmony of the mind from yoga poses. Raja yoga is also able to manage your feelings in addition to getting your bodies into raja yoga postures. In Indian civilization, the mind lords over the body hence raja.

Astanga, known as eight limbed yoga and is the eight objectives of raja yoga to become a raja yoga master: "Yama" is the application and observance of being moral. "Niyama" is staying true to your own spirituality. The practice in India is believed to be abiding by religious traditions an! d festiv als.

"Asana" is subjecting your body to the various poses to achieve relaxation and increase flexibility. "Pranayama" is keeping to a correct breathing technique by not constantly thinking about the past, as it results in superficial breath. "Prana", generally refers to "life force" in Hindu. "Pratayahara" is through forming your own strength of will and mind without subjecting to outside influence.

"Dharana" is observing of meditation, "Dhyana" is to maintain self detachment. This is by far the most difficult objective of raja yoga to clarify. An absolute ideal is to be free of any emotional or materials attachment to be one and harmonize with the God and the Universe even depriving yourself of food, oxygen and sleep. Once your body attains flexibility, it will align with your needs and desires. "Samadhi", this is the highest state, to be one with God, the Nirvana state of raja yoga.

While Ivengar focus on the right alignment and shape of the body and cling to it for extended period of time instead of changing poses like ashtanga yoga. Props are also requiring in ivengar yoga to achieve alignment.

One of the most widespread types of yoga is the bikram yoga and it is practiced in forty degree Celsius and forty percent humidity. It was founded by Bikram Choudhury and main philosophy is to achieve better breathing and body suppleness as well as circulation in the body. The increased temperature will induce the blood to flow.

Bikram yoga has 26 postures and two detailed breathe control. Bikram yoga is taught by trained and licensed practitioners in order to provide a safe environment for those taking it up. This type of yoga will make you suppler with a better body circulation, an ability to manage breathing together with many other benefits.

Besides the few major types of yoga that are mentioned above, other forms of yoga exist but to start off with yoga, it is best to be acquainted with one of these major types. Having a rough idea of all these major types, you can pro! ceed to find out about other forms of yoga. For beginners, astanga yoga is the most ideal as all other different features can be picked up from there.
