Yoga is very much about life style. There are those yogis who like fast-moving yoga and there are those who like the traditional slow and deliberate movements, then there are those who are in between. My view is that it is not about what style of yoga you do, but more about what it does for you and what you become over time.

Yoga, for me, is all about my health and learning to help my mind to become quieter. My preference is Hatha yoga in style of Iyengar. I love the precision and building strength.

As a business, to become a yoga instructor is one of the finest opportunities. It is understood that, in any community, only between half and 3 percent of the population ever practice yoga. This ancient art of self-healing is just not on everyone's radar. So the opportunity is the vast market of the rest of the population that knows, understands, and are also aware that Yoga is something that will give them good health and a quiet mind.When you begin, through yoga practice, to direct your energy into positive channels within the body, it feels like you are opening doors. A person who follows the traditions of yoga is known as a yogi.

Our yoga teacher training courses aims to provide a framework for our students with which they can open and run their own Yoga classes. We provide yoga teacher courses for people who wish to make Yoga philospophy part of their life and also wish to take up Yoga teaching as a career.

In the main there are two types of yoga. Raja Yoga and Hatha Yoga. From these two roots of the yoga tree, several variations have come about and appropriate names have been allocated. Usually you will find that it is the person who devised the style claims the name. Don't get attached to the names…try out whatever the style and either walk away, if you are not comfortable, or stay and learn the benefits.I often tell my students in my classes to observe. They must observe how they feel after a class. I encourage you to sit in your car, having done a yoga session, and! take a few breaths and listen to the body. If you find that you feel better then what you came in to the class, then the type of yoga suits you. If however you do not feel better, then don't give up on yoga, change your teacher !

Raja yoga also encompasses the Hatha style of yoga, the physical technique that most people use as a type of exercise.The Kundalini style of yoga works on the idea that the human body contains eight chakras. Through controlled breathing, you can warm the body from the bottom to the top, in order to raise your latent Kundalini power which should help you attain a level of enlightenment.Power yoga is also recognized by its Sanskrit name, Vinyasa. A vinyasa is a series of swift movements intended to warm your body all over. Vinyasa yoga is a particularly active type of yoga, in which you move rapidly through your poses or asanas. Due to the speed at which you move, you do not hold these poses as long as you would in other methods. It is almost definitely guaranteed that you will produce a lot of sweat during your sessions; therefore this style is not for the inexperienced or for those who are out of shape. The benefit of this style is that it gives your body and especially your muscles a vigorous workout.

My personal preference is to work with yoga that suits me. I need strong postures but not the speed of movement from one posture to the other. Iyengar style of yoga suits me very well. I also need to have a few moments of meditation and breathing. Finally I also appreciate a few moments of complete relaxation. This allows me to connect with my body and observe.

We believe that to most effectively and safely practice or teach yoga, one must understand certain fundamental principles of anatomy.  There are so many different traditions and types of yoga, it is not possible to cover them all - and it can sometimes be difficult to discern the underlying unity.  Our view is that it does not matter what style of yoga you may practice, what we all have in common is a human body.  We will first develop an understanding of physical anatomy and form a common language for our discussions.  We will then learn to apply the fundamentals of anatomy to our personal practice and our teaching, including the important role of individual anatomical differences.  We will learn this first through the study of Yin Yoga, as the simple postures and slow pace will allow us the necessary time for posture analysis and discussion.  We will then carry this on to the study of yang movement sequences that are a great way to begin your practice and teaching of more dynamic yoga styles.

We will develop your understanding and your teaching from a functional perspective, meaning that our focus will be not aesthetic appearance or superficial alignment, but rather the actual intended effect of the technique and how to best produce that effect for each unique practitioner.  Without the common ground of anatomical understanding this is not possible, but with practical understanding of anatomy the function of the techniques and their application becomes clear.  We will discuss the theory of exercise and it's relevance to yoga asanas. We will experience the function of a diverse array of techniques through direct personal experience.

We will become comfortable teaching students with varied levels of ability and experience.  In the Bhagavad Gita, Krishna says there are as many paths to God as there are people.  Each student you encounter will need something different from you as a teach! er.  If there is one message that we will carry throughout our training it is that every individual's yoga practice is ultimately unique, and the teacher's function is to guide the student's practice in order to help lead them to their own direct experience of their personal truth. 

We will learn to practice and teach fundamental techniques of meditation. We will differentiate between two types of meditation: techniques used for relaxation or stress reduction, and techniques used for personal and spiritual evolution. We will first learn to practice and teach meditation techniques that are very simple and easy to teach to beginners. We will then explore subtle anatomy, the energetic system of the body, including chakras and meridians, and discuss the "bigger picture" of karma and reincarnation. We hope to clarify some of the confusion that can arise from studying any one tradition. We will put our theories into practice in asana, pranayama, and meditation sessions.

We will become familiar with the essential scriptures and philosophical texts of yoga.  We believe that the most important information about the yogic sciences are contained in just a few ancient texts.  Many contemporary authors write 'new' books that are essentially a paraphrase of the wisdom presented in these sacred writings, and often their personal biases can obscure the original message. Not to say that there are not some very good modern texts, but we can read a few hundred modern books trying to sort out these truths, or we can work to really understand a few seminal works. We shall do the latter.

We will prepare you for the realities of teaching yoga as a profession. This does not just mean that you will be certified, that's the easy part.... It means you will be able to teach effectively in any setting that you choose, to any student seeking your guidance. It means you will be able to find or create job opportunities, and effectively negotiate the compensation you deserve for being properly trained. It means you will b! e ready to go out into the real world and teach real students a practice that really helps them, and that requires an understanding that we will have to work hard for. It will be worth it.  

Tentative Schedule and Format:

The following schedule allows you the opportunity for a total of 192 contact hours, 12 more than required by for an RYT200 certification.  This allows a trainee 12 hours of absences before make-up hours will be necessary to complete the 180 contact hours required for Yoga Alliance certification. To make a total of 200 hours the additional 20 non-contact hours will be fulfilled by viewing assigned video materials, observing, teaching, and participating in classes and completing writing assignments based on those experiences.

Each weekend will follow this general framework:

Fridays (Tentatively scheduled for 6-9pm) = 3 Contact Hours Friday evenings will begin with an overview of the weekend's events, a led practice, and lecture and discussion covering a variety of topics in the curriculum.  Friday evening we will introduce key anatomical or philosophical concepts that will be elaborated upon over the weekend.  

Saturdays (Tentatively scheduled for 9:30am-Noon and 1-6pm) = 7.5 Contact HoursSaturdays will begin with an hour of Asana practice.  We will then have about 90 minutes for lecture, posture analysis, and practice teaching.  Following lunch we will continue the morning's activities.  On some Saturdays we will be holding workshops that will cover certain aspects of the teacher training curriculum but may also be open to the public. We will end most Saturdays with a Yoga practice exclusively for trainees and time for questions and discussion.  

Sundays (Tentatively scheduled for Noon-5! :30pm)  = 5.5 Contact Hours Sundays will begin with meditation, followed by lectures on anatomy, philosophy, or ethics and lifestyle of yoga.  We will close each weekend with a 90 minute led Yin Yoga practice and guided meditation practice that covers portions of our training curriculum, and will also be open to the public.

These will also tackle with his health issues such as weight control, curing insomnia, and quitting smoking.

Soft and soothing music is usually played during meditation. It harmonizes with the voice that presents the meditation and helps the person meditating to focus on the words and leave his surrounding environment behind to go on the journey for self improvement.

A variety of meditation techniques are available for self improvement, yet finding the right one may take a long time.

Therefore, shouldn't every Christian be a meditating Christian? But I think that the question isn't should Christians meditate because the answer is an obvious yes. Even the Bible admonishes us to mediate. I think that the question that remains in the mind of many Christians is "how" are we to meditate? And the answer to that question lies in what you want to achieve from your meditation experience.

2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to, "Cast down every thought and imagination that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ." Well as you know that is easier said than done. Many of us are holding unto ungodly mindsets that keep us from experience God's best in our lives.

If you are plagued with worry, fear, and negative thinking, you must learn how to gain control over your mind and thoughts and meditation is one of the best ways to do this. By meditating on a sacred word or a passage of scriptures, you can learn to quiet your thoughts and take authority over and root out destructive thinking. This type of meditation, often referred to as scripture, passage, or mantra meditation can help us learn to train our mind.

Psalms 37:7 tells us to ! "Be stil l before the Lord and wait patiently for him." Many Christians have a hard time being still. Busyness has become a cornerstone in American life. They don't know how to relax or even to dwell in God's presence without being distracted or their mind wandering all over the place. Again, meditating on the Lord for 30 minutes a day in silence and solitude can help Christians learn how to be still before the Lord. Being still and dwelling in God's presence allow believers to be enveloped with God's love and spirit, something many Christians have never experienced before. We can't dwell in God's presence and not be changed. Every person who had an encounter with Jesus didn't leave the same.

The Psalmist said, I have hid God's word in my heart that I might not sin against him. (Psalms 119:11)Through meditation on God's word, we go beyond a cursory reading of the scriptures. Instead of grazing lightly over God's word, through meditation, God's word is able to deeply penetrate our hearts where it can actually take root and grow a harvest. There is a big difference between reading God's and mulling over, pondering, reflecting upon, and contemplating it. One is superficial, the other is transformative. Meditating on God's word makes it become real to us. We can meditate on God's word by slowly and methodically reading the scriptures and then reflecting upon how they relate to our current life or situation. Or we can practice scripture or passage meditation, where we slowly and silently repeat a verse or passage of scripture as we sit in God's presence for a period of 30 minutes. Both methods will change our lives.

I believe there is no greater and more important practice in the life of a Christian than being still before God. Until we separate ourselves unto the Lord and renew our minds, we will always struggle with the pulls and temptations of modern life. Meditation creates a greater space for God to fill our lives with more of him.

I love what the prophet said Isaiah 50:4, "He [God] awakens me m! orning b y morning, awakens my ear to listen like one being taught." Our fellowship and intimacy with God will always be in direct proportion to the time we abide in Him and subdue our ego- which begins with conquering and renewing our mind.

It's no different than eating healthy or performing regular exercise. If I could just throw caution to the wind and live a life of self-indulgence with out consequences, I'd be the first in line.

I meditate, not because I want to, but because I have to if I want to maintain my peace of mind, deny myself, get closer to God, detach from worldly philosophies and renew my mind.
