While there is no clear evidence for meditation in pre-Buddhist early Brahminic texts, Wynne argues that formless meditation originated in the Brahminic tradition, based on strong parallels between Upanishadic cosmological statements and the meditative goals of the two teachers of the Buddha as recorded in the early Buddhist texts.[22] He mentions less likely possibilities as well.[23] Having argued that the cosmological statements in the Upanishads also reflect a contemplative tradition, he argues that the Nasadiya Sukta contains evidence for a contemplative tradition, even as early as the late Rg Vedic period.Yoga improves your endurance, especially the more athletic forms of yoga such as ashtanga yoga, power yoga, vinyasa yoga, and Bikram yoga. These rigorous yoga practices follow a specific sequence of poses (asanas) that become more challenging as you progress. Unlike the gentler hatha yoga, the forms of ashtagna yoga, power yoga, vinyasa yoga, and Bikram yoga require you to keep your body in constant motion between poses, resulting in a strenuous cardiovascular workout and improved core strength. The fabric the clothes are made from needs to breathe so that you do not get too hot and sticky. Mind Your Meditation

Article by Jim Karter

Human being is the most intelligent creature on the earth. He has a continuous quench of knowledge, technology; development and he explores the universe to satisfy this need.

"Don't ever remain satisfied" is the keyword in human life and it only makes the difference between man on the first day of his existence and now. There is a loophole in his nature too. He never gets what he wants because it is hidden inside him and we do not ever care to peep inside.

Meditation is the way to relax yourself from stress. It is a traditional custom which has religious importance. Christians meditate by chanting prayer to God and confessions at church, Buddhism believes in it as "a method of mind transformation", Japanese Zen masters believe in it as "the experience of true nature," Tibetian Buddhist" thinks it as "a way to awaken sky like nature of the mind."

Hinduism also believes it as "a way to talk with inner voice". Jain religion advocates its contemplation and Islam suggests it five times a day because it is a divine inspiration to liberate heart and intellect accordingly. Though the definations, ways to do it are different, purpose is same according to all religions. That is to speak with the divine spirit according to your belief.

Modern psychology also recommends meditation as a way to bust your stress and get inspiration to rejoin work. Eastern practices of doing it are well known all over the world now. Even psychologists believe that sleep is also a form of sustained meditation. Good results are found in the field of curative psychiatric treatments.

Everyone follows a busy work schedule and cumbersome load today. Meditation enables person to handle all stressful situations in a peaceful and balanced manner. It creates the space of your own where you could have your own time to relax yourself, get motivation and winning spirit.

Position of meditating is crossed legs; spine must be straight, barefoot and on the floor. But this is traditional one with the religious ! view. No w a days sitting on chair, on knees is also suggested. some meditative institutions suggest wide open eye concentrated on any given image like candle, red bulb, idol of a God, a point on a wall etc.

In meditation chants, mantras, prayer recitations are continuously chanted. Loud or silent recitations help person to become free from each and every worry, thought going on in the mind. Peaceful meditation without such prayers needs extreme self power to become liberated soul from all the earthly worries.

Meditation also teaches how to breathe. A full breath till belly is suggested to feel cheerful and fresh. concentration on breathing also make us aware about the greatest gift given to us by nature that is this life.

Yoga is a famous eastern style which teaches "asana", the proper sitting posture, "mudra"- position of hands and gestures, deep full breathe, and concentration inside yourself.

Benefits of meditation are well known: first of all they are stress busters. They turn you into an introverted personality; provide your own space to react. So, students who become very nervous at the time of examinations could use this method. Those who have hectic schedule can get decision making power by meditating everyday. Most of all meditation gives magical results to those who are fading with the depression, short temper, and impatient. By the help of meditation they can be treated.

Because it between you and yourself, very less accessories are required. A mat to sit upon, and an enlightened mind. Indoor and outdoor is not a problem because it explores the world existing inside you. There are no side effects of meditation and even an instructor is not necessary. Once you begin to peep inside you will get a treasure for which you were struggling hard. Is there any limitation for the fortunate one who is aware about his own abilities to change the world?

Meditation

Article by Allison MacLaughlan

Binaural meditation is a way for people to achieve high levels of consciousness while meditating and to experience the benefits that come along with this.

Meditation is promoted as a key factor in reducing stress and anxiety in our lives, connecting with our source and creating a balanced well-being. However to actually experience the benefits of deep meditation it can take years of practice, time and discipline.

From Beta Waves to Theta Waves

Deep meditation ultimately comes down to our brainwave frequencies. We start off in the Beta wave state which is our everyday awake state. Meditation will take us from Beta waves to Alpha waves. The Alpha state will allow us to experience higher cognitive understanding. Simply getting from the Beta state to the Alpha state can be extremely difficult to master and take many, many hours of practice, patience and focus.

Our ultimate goal with meditation is to get from the Alpha state to the Theta brain wave state which is where we will experience great healing and positive change. Some of the main benefits of experience Theta meditation are:

stronger immune systemimproved healthbetter sleepelimination of unwanted habitsand much more.

Very few people actually get to experience the benefits of Theta waves because they are so hard to tap into. Even for an experienced meditator it can take years to get to this point. That is why binaural beats have made such a difference with meditation.

Using Binaural Beats to Experience Deep Meditation

Binaural meditation is when we use a form of brainwave entrainment called binaural beats to help our brains to reach the desired frequency easily and quickly. This is not something new it has been around for over 170 years.

There is a misconception that binaural beats are somehow mystical or new age. In fact nothing could be further from the truth. Binaural beats and brainwave entrainment are totally scientific and backed by years of scientific research. They are 100% ! safe to use and extremely effective.

Listening to a binaural beats MP3 or CD recording with headphones allows are brain to effortlessly tune into the right frequency for Theta meditation. This method of binaural meditation is tried, tested and true and could not be simpler.

There are many different online sources for binaural beats. Simply make sure you are getting pure raw original recordings that use either binaural beats, monaural beats or even better isochronic tones. With these recordings you will be experiencing deep binaural meditation in no time.

Meditation and Relaxation

Posted: 06 Feb 2012 04:00 AM PST

Article by Sam Stieler

The word meditation has taken on a lot of connotations. For many people, sports, exercise, dancing or other strenuous physical activities are a type of "moving meditation." For others, when they're really into the work they are doing they describe it as being like meditating. Others still describe mundane things like driving and walking as meditative. What all these activities have in common is the fact that they all involve entering almost a trance like state, where everything else melts away and you enter a state where you aren't thinking, you're just doing. A state that's been aptly called a "no mind" state.

Of course, there is always that most traditional and stubborn image of meditation- a yogi alone, mostly naked with a long beard and head of hair, sitting in the forest or on top of a mountain, twisted into a strange position emitting even stranger chants. Or perhaps even more commonly- when we think of meditation we just think of someone sitting on the floor, doing nothing. And for some reason, sitting on the ground doing nothing doesn't exactly sound like the most active way to relieve mental tension.

Looks can be deceiving though, and calm meditation is still a great method for centering yourself and relieving mental distress. After all, if all those previously mentioned activities are akin to meditating, than you know firsthand how effective the flowing state can be.

Meditation has been around for a very long time, for millennia in fact, and traces its origins in the Far East. Religious and philosophical practitioners have been using meditation effectively to find inner balance, enlightenment, contentment, and at-oneness with the whole universe.

Meditation has taken a long time to get over to the Western world. We see some of the first indications of acceptance in the 1800's, when naturalist and transcendentalist writers began reading the great eastern texts and attempted to incorporate the beliefs and understandings into their own lives and works. Eas! tern tho ught was taken up by numerous mystical and secret societies in Europe and America, giving it a somewhat unsavory reputation. It first really showed up in popular culture in the 60's with the Maharishi, and even then it was still seen as aligned with some fringe and radical groups. However, over the past few decades it has carved out a certain level of acceptance, where now its detractors simply feel that it is silly and not outright dangerous as it was once considered.

Meditation's case has been helped by the fact that a number of prominent business and entertainment leaders (such as Russell Simons and Clint Eastwood) openly meditate, and also by the fact that more and more clinical research is being performed on meditation, most of which just serves to prove its efficacy. In the future, we can anticipate that meditation will gain greater and greater acceptance in Western Culture as a powerful method to reduce stress and achieve peace.

Meditation Guided Environment Is Key to Your Success

Posted: 06 Feb 2012 01:00 AM PST

Meditation

Article by Irwin Myers

Meditation guided sessions are one of the best ways you can cut down on your stress levels. The top six causes of death in the United States are all linked to stress, so implementing a meditation regime, even a light one, can be more than just spiritually fulfilling: it can save your life in the long run. The more you work on your meditations, the greater the health benefit you get from it.

Before you actually begin to meditate, find the perfect space to meditate in. You can choose a place in your home that is fairly isolated so that it will give you the most opportunity for a quiet place. You will want to avoid disturbances as much as possible. If you live in a particularly noisy environment, you may want to try playing some meditation music, or even using ear plugs to block out the noise.

Whatever environment you choose for your meditation guided nook should be, above everything, comfortable. Choosing the best meditation guided posture may take a few tries, but like your meditation area, it should be comfortable before anything else. Try sitting in a comfortable chair, lying down, or even sitting on the floor in various positions until you find what works best for you. You want to be relaxed, but not so much that you fall asleep during your meditation practice. After picking out these two things, you are ready to start meditating.

Find a spot somewhere within the area surrounding your meditation nook. It could be visible (for example, a nail in a wall) or an invisible place you intently place your focus on. Whether you choose the ceiling or a wall in your meditation nook to place your gaze on is not as important as being able to focus your energy. When you choose this spot, stare at it. Keep your eyes open throughout the meditation guided routine and do not avert your gaze.

While keeping your eyes locked on your spot, breathe in through your nose, hold the breath for two counts and exhale through your mouth, allowing your stress to travel with it. Repeat this several! times, each time slower than the one before it. Keep all your active mental energy on the breathing exercise as all sorts of thoughts enter and leave your head. Keep going until your mind is completely silent. Maintaining this blank trance state for as long as possible is a great way to eliminate stress, which will ultimately keep you healthy through the practice of meditation guided.

Meditation Guided Mantra Selection

Posted: 05 Feb 2012 11:00 PM PST

Meditation
by dolanh

Article by Irwin Myers

Meditation guided mantras can be the key to unlocking your full meditation potential. Depending on what sort of meditation you practice, a mantra is a word, phrase or syllable you utter while meditating that can help you focus. Mantras can be spoken aloud or silently thought, either way they help keep your excess thoughts at bay. For thousands of years, many meditation practitioners have been using mantras to enhance the power of their meditations. If you find yourself having difficulty in choosing what you want to use as a mantra, the following will provide some tips to make your selection easier.

You should begin to choose a meditation guided mantra by doing a little word association. Think of what you want to achieve through meditation, and write down words associated with that. If you are looking to gain a greater sense of calm, you might want to write words like peace, tranquility, or other related terms. Do the same for all of the goals you have for your meditation schedule. Read all the words you think of out loud. Hopefully, one or more of them should stand out or resonate with you.

The next time you meditate, try out your chosen word or phrase as your mantra. Whether you say your mantra aloud or silently in your head during your meditation guided sessions, work it into your meditation routine as seamlessly as possible. Try repeating it for approximately twenty minutes while meditating. Be sure to draw out the word, especially if you have chosen a mantra with more than one syllable. Stretch out the word or phrase so that it feels very calming for you to say repeatedly.

Even if you select a perfect mantra, it may be helpful for you to incorporate some more traditional mantras or chants. It might seem like a stereotype to chant the Om or Ah sound, but it can be very helpful. There is also a very well known Buddhist chant you may want to take up, that being "Om mani padme hum." Repeating either the Om or the entire chant is likely to help you clear your mind and provide a ! nice beg inning to a meditation session in which you can insert your own chosen mantra. As your goals change, be sure to update and change your mantras so that you continue to achieve the goals you have set for your work in meditation guided.

Meditation Guided Yoga Practice

Posted: 05 Feb 2012 10:00 PM PST

Article by Irwin Myers

Meditation guided practices might seem to go hand in hand with a yoga routine, but you may not be getting the greatest benefit out of this combination as you think. When actively incorporating techniques from your meditation method into your yoga, you are deepening both disciplines and providing that much stronger of an experience. While your yoga poses might inhibit a more intensive meditation format, some more basic meditation techniques will provide a rich new texture to your yoga regimen.

Whatever meditation style you practice, it is best to think of what elements will transfer to your yoga work the easiest. If you use beads to recite mantras, you may have to put them aside while performing your yoga poses. However, you can still recite the mantras in your head. If you do yoga at home, you can say them aloud, as it will not disturb a roomful of yoga practitioners. During your regular meditation, feel free to return to your beads.

Visualization techniques can be very helpful during yoga. You can visualize yourself just as you do during meditation, if you see fit, but you can also tailor your visualizations to suit your yoga goals. For example, if you meditate to reduce stress and you practice yoga for weight loss, you may want to consider switching up your visualizations accordingly. If your yoga aspirations and meditation goals align with one another, feel free to keep the same visualization for both guided meditation yoga and standard meditation.

Breathing exercises are important to both practices, but you might associate different breathing exercises with meditation than you do with yoga. If that is the case, try doing exercises where you might think they do not belong. For example, try bringing a calming meditation breathing exercise to your next invigorating yoga session or vice versa. Concentrate on your breath and how the air moves through your body (the expansion of your lungs, etc.).

Finally, if you choose to combine the two practices, be sure to have a space ! set asid e in your home that is not only comfortable for meditating, but large enough to accommodate your yoga poses, as well as private enough so that you remain undisturbed. You may find that after keeping the two disciplines apart, you want to keep combining them, which is absolutely fine. If all goes well, you will likely feel that your yoga practice is more fulfilling, and that you feel a greater sense of power from meditation guided.

Meditation Guided Walking Ideas

Posted: 05 Feb 2012 09:00 PM PST

Article by Irwin Myers

Meditation guided sessions might typically be characterized as sitting quietly and focusing inward, but for the more actively inclined among meditation practitioners, walking guided meditation might be a good choice to try out. You may be surprised to find how well the repetitive rhythm of walking can induce a meditative trance when performed properly.

The first thing you will need to accomplish when implementing a new regime of walking meditation is to find a pathway that you can walk down. It should be fairly straight and smooth with no gaps (and preferably no hills or inclines). A path around thirty feet long will do nicely. This path can be either in or outdoors. Once you have found your path, stand at one end and begin walking at a consistent pace; fast or slow, however you feel suited to walking. You may want to traverse the path a few times just to get a good feel of it before beginning walking meditation.

When you are ready to begin the meditation routine itself, walk the path as you did before, but look down with half-closed eyes as you walk. Put your focus on your legs: their movement and the energy your body gives them. All of your thoughts should center on your legs. Actively feel your foot hit the ground. Let no other thoughts enter your mind other than how your feet and legs move and function across this path. If you have tried guided meditation with mantras, this is a similar notion, only instead of reciting a mantra, your attention goes to your legs.

Inevitably, you will reach the end of your pathway. When you do, pause for a brief second and turn around to cross the path again, continuing this meditation technique. If your mind tends to wander, the brief break in turning around will likely remind it where you need it to focus. You may feel unsure of whether or not you have reached a meditative trance in this method, as it might feel foreign to you. Do your best not to worry about that aspect of it, as that can be a huge distraction.

Trusting yourself and! your ca pabilities to meditate properly are very valuable skills, and necessary for this active form of meditation. Continue walking back and forth over this path for around twenty minutes. If you feel satisfied with your meditation before twenty minutes have elapsed, feel free to end the routine there. Depending on how you meditate, it could be more about the laps on the path than the time put into this form of meditation guided.

How to Increase Concentration Level with Yoga and Meditation

Posted: 05 Feb 2012 07:00 PM PST

Article by Jeet Kumar

The word Concentration means 'withdrawing the mind from many thoughts and putting it on a single thought at a time.' Usually, human mind try to do multiple tasks at a time. This multi-tasking costs in lower level of concentration. Though people use various techniques and methods to increase the level of concentration but since antiquity yoga and meditation has been practiced as the best way in this regard. Meditation is a practice of contemplation. Sitting quietly in a noiseless place, attempting to take the mind into a deeper level of concentration by relaxing it and focusing on a single point, is what meditation is all about. Meditation, practiced with meditation music, ensures the best result as the soothing tunes of the music help to calm and relax the mind.

For a mindfulness meditation, the meditator has to sit silently and comfortably in a noiseless place, focusing on a single object or even a single process. Observing one's own breath or chanting a particular monosyllabic mantra can be a good way of starting meditation. Sit straight and upright without a support and relax the body. Next, control your breath and breathe slowly but evenly. Once the breathing is perfect, deeply concentrate at the point between the two eyebrows. In this stage one needs to keep the mind focused and the energy internalized. Feel the peace gradually generated by this practice. At the very beginning one can meditate for five minutes and then increase it with times. As this meditation is largely a spiritual practice, end it with some soulful divine music or prayer. For this one can play a soothing yoga DVD offered at Spirit Voyage. Spirit Voyage, an online music company, offers a good number of meditation music or yoga music CDs and DVDs for yoga or meditation purpose.

Regular practicing of meditation ensures a highly increased level of concentration. Same goes for yoga practicing. Yoga is the art and philosophy of uniting human mind, body and soul by practicing various physical exercises like asana and! pranaya ma. Asana means yoga postures or poses and pranayama means breathing exercises. From the ancient ages, yoga has been in practice to attain a higher state of self-awareness where one can control his mind, body and soul. Different yoga forms like Kundalini yoga, Hatha yoga, Karma yoga or Bhakti yoga, all aim at the attainment of ultimate goal of moksha. Thus, practicing yoga is a proven method of increasing the level of concentration by binding the mind, body and soul in a single chord. To get the best result, one can incorporate a little bit of yoga music in the yoga practicing session.

One can browse through the latest collection of various yoga or spiritual music DVDs and yoga DVDs offered by Spirit Voyage and pick up the best suitable yoga DVD to enhance the mood of meditation. 1000 Years and Beyond or Mind and Meditation (4 DVD Set) by Yogi Bhajan, The Awakening by Donna Amrita Davidge are few among those DVDs which will help the practitioner to connect his own soul with the divine soul or Paramatma. Apart from this CDs and DVDs on different forms like Kundalini yoga or Ashtanga yoga are also available. The soothing and melodious voices of the renowned spiritual singers like Snatam Kaur, Wah!, Donna De Lorry and others lend their pure voices in these albums. The blissful tunes are sure to fill up the air with divine purity, thus leading one to a deeper level of concentration.

Methods Of Meditation To Improve Your Health

Posted: 05 Feb 2012 06:00 PM PST

Article by Willie Greg

We all know there are many different methods of meditation to help relieve stress and to relieve tension and relax you. The first thing you want to do is remember that there are ways to meditate that will fit your lifestyle. You may have a friend that has used meditation to help them relax and would want to give you advice on how they meditate. You must realize that the person you are talking to has a whole different lifestyle then you do.

Your friend can suggest ways that help him or her but will it help you? If you are an active person exercise can be a very good and healthy way to meditate. Walking can be very relaxing and it can give you time to gather your thoughts while getting healthy at the same time. If you are not the kind of person that is not use to a lot of exercise and you feel walking would help you meditate make sure you start out slowly. Do not try and walk 2 or 3 miles starting out. You want to meditate but you want to relax while doing it. If you are not use to exercise you do not want to ware yourself out.Walk slowly and take time to gather your thoughts. One of the most relaxing ways I find to meditate is by prayer. I will be the first to admit I do not know a lot about the bible and probably do not actually pray in the way that most people do who know a lot about the bible. My point is I want to relax and have time to myself by meditating and I take my comfort in the lord. I guess you can say I talk to the lord more than I pray. Meditation can really turn your life around.

I actually feel that me talking from my heart is the same as saying a prayer from your heart. I remember my mother would take the prayer list from church and no matter how many peoples names were on the list she took the time to sit and meditate and say a prayer of healing and comfort for each and everyone on the prayer list. My husband finds he can meditate and relax by listening to music.

He actually has hundreds even thousands of different types of music he listens to. His nerves are! not rea lly good so his comfort is in his music and he plays the radio day in and day out. He mostly listens to classic country and the oldies station. The music helps him concentrate and keep his thoughts together.Another way I find of meditating is through animals. You can talk to your pet without worrying about him talking back to you like a child would.

You can curl up on the couch turn the television on low and just communicate with your pet. You may think how do you communicate with an animal? Animals are very smart. They understand what you are trying to do. If you have had a bad day they can comfort you by just being there for you.If you have a dog or a cat let them sit or lay next to you and pet them and you will be so relaxed you will forget about the stress your day has brought.

So whether you are meditating by a method of exercise, or a method of communicating with your animals or by prayer take the time to just relax your mind and your body and you will be physically and emotionally stress free. Remember meditation is basically taking the time to collect your thoughts and when you take the time to get your thoughts together your mind will then be able to concentrate on the things that are important in your life.

Meditation and Buddhism - An Introduction to How Buddhism Relates with Meditation

Posted: 05 Feb 2012 05:00 PM PST

Article by Amy C.

Meditation is the self-employed practice of relaxing the body and calming the mind by reflecting deeply on a subject. Some of its core health benefits are that maintains ideal blood pressure, and relives stress and tension. Buddhists meditate using different kinds of meditation techniques to develop mindfulness and concentration that transform their quality of life.

There is no magic, no mysteries or any stimulant used in Buddhism meditation. It is self reliant and deals only with the reality of everyday life and human conscience. The condition of life where a person is in serves as the reason for meditation and does not need any special instrument. It does not also involve any rites or cult rituals. It only requires the commitment and desire to feel the need for enlightenment.

Why do Buddhists Meditate?

While meditation is a popular way of getting relaxed and providing the good feeling; there are some definite reasons and objectives for meditation.

Buddhists meditate to focus on the following:

- Nibbana- The End of Suffering- The Realization of Positive Feelings- Non-attachment- Insight- Concentration

Here's the brief explanation of each and every aspect of Buddhist Meditation.

1.) Nibbana- Is considered the highest level of mental clarity. It is the destruction and extinction of all sufferings. It is only experienced by those who have reached the ultimate maturity, both morally and psychologically.

2.) The End of Suffering- Giving up and abandonment of greed, hatred, delusion, anger and other negative feelings which are the source of suffering. Gaining experience and understanding will get one out of discomfort brought about by anger.

3.) The Realization of Positive Feelings - Love, compassion, mental purity, composure and happiness are being enhanced through bringing joy to other people. This provides meaningful, wholesome and fulfilling experiences and eliminates the foundation for anger.

4.) Non-attachment promotes freedom from want! ing and desire for bodily gratification. The passion for pleasures makes one a slave. The psychological freedom means non-attachment and composure.

5.) Insight- Buddhist meditation involves two meanings for insight. Vipassana- which means awareness of the dharma. Impermanence- meaning everything changes and does not remain the same. Nothing in creation is permanent, all things are temporary therefore sorrows and suffering always exist.

6.) Concentration- Building the ability to focus on a subject while ignoring the surrounding for a period of time to overcome the mind's ordinary ways of diverting from one subject to another. Concentration is an early goal of meditation for Buddhist.

Don't be surprised if only a small fraction of Buddhist followers practice meditation regularly, because it depends on their free will on when to meditate. It may be now or later.

Meditation; A Comprehensive Self Help Program

Posted: 05 Feb 2012 04:00 PM PST

Article by Dr Russell Razzaque

From heart attacks to cancer to aging to high blood pressure and mental health, meditation has a proven impact across a whole gamut of areas in the body. Here are just a few scientifically proven facts about meditation - verified by robust research:

* Meditation causes a 48% reduction in symptoms of depression. * People who meditate have 47% fewer heart attacks. * 75% of long-term insomniacs who have been trained in meditation can fall asleep within 20 minutes of going to bed. * People who meditate show an 8% to 15% decrease in the risk of stroke. * Sufferers of anxiety who meditate show a 60% improvement in anxiety levels after only 8 weeks of practice. * Meditation can slow aging. A study found that people who had been meditating for more than five years were physiologically 12 to 15 years younger than non-meditators. * The chance of getting cancer has been shown in studies to reduce by 55% in those who meditate regularly. * Regular meditators experience a 10-20 point drop in blood pressure compared to the general population.

So as we can see, the effects of meditation can't be said that its effects are confined to only one region or one system. It is the ultimate self help program. Its scope of action is truly diverse.

Why is this?

Well, as a doctor I can see a universal pattern behind this that extends to all pathologies. Generally, illnesses build up under an invisible cloak. Whether it is heart attacks, high blood pressure or cancer, the initiation and progression of the illness is something that happens essentially outside our conscious realm. If you actually felt your blood vessels tensing - as they do in hypertension - or your arteries narrowing - as they do before heart attacks - or your cells proliferating abnormally - as they do in cancer - then no illness would ever take it's grip. We'd be able to stop it before it got out of control. The problem is that none of these things can be seen by us or generally felt in any way. They creep up inside us until, often, ! we reach a point of catastrophe.

Where modern medicine provides treatment, it is by trying to reverse the process once it has reached a point of detection, which is often quite an advanced stage. An earlier solution, however, would be to increase our awareness of our body generally throughout our lives. By doing this, we could prevent - or at least inhibit - the build up of the disease process. It is like letting a little sunlight in, the sunlight of awareness.

When you meditate you're not exactly aware of arteries narrowing or cells abnormally proliferating, but you become more aware of the feelings, motions and pains in your body generally and in a non-specific sense. This very experience of awareness keeps the diversity of systems within the body out in the open, shielding them from the darkness that enables illness to, all too commonly, lurk and even flourish.

This does not mean, of course, that we will ever arrive at a place where we avoid becoming ill at all. Illness is an unavoidable part of life. What it does mean, however, is that meditation enables us to stay in the light for longer.

Existing In Today's World Unfazed By The Trials Of Life Through Yoga Meditation

Posted: 05 Feb 2012 03:00 PM PST

Article by Linda Adams

These two activities had evolved over the millennia and share a mutual relationship. The beneficial results of meditation mentally, physically and spiritually are incorporated in yoga.

Yoga and Meditation helps the body

The following are just a few of the most obvious effects of yoga meditation on the body:

* A remarkable decrease in blood pressure and normalization of heart rate

* Decrease in metabolic rate and of cortisol, the stress hormone

* Lowering of cholesterol levels and easier breathing, very valuable especially for those with respiratory problems

* Pain-managing endorphins are released, which lessens the occurrence of persistent pain

* The immune system is strengthened and you develop a guard against diseases

Your metabolism gets to be stabilized with yoga meditation; you get a better performing digestive system. You develop a lithe spine which will give your whole body enhanced power.

Yoga meditation on your mind and spirit

Constant practice of yoga meditation grants you greater awareness of your surroundings and clears your mind. So it helps your mind and spirit and body rid itself of nervousness, melancholy and bouts of nerves. You begin to have a positive feeling long after each pose and meditation, with or without a mantra.

Regular practitioners report enhanced creativity, heightened memory, a grounded feeling, a general feeling of happyness. The serenity that sets in the body and mind after meditation is totally different from other relaxation activities.

Doing Yoga Meditation

You can isolate yourself while doing yoga meditation or join other practitioners in a group session. What matters more when you choose where to do your yoga meditation is that it's a place where you 'd be at ease and it must be spacious enough for you to stretch your arms and legs. The more there is silence in your chosen spot, the more you would be able to focus your mind for your meditation.

You must b! e dresse d in loose and comfortable garments. No out-of-the-ordinary paraphernalia will be required, and besides the various poses are simple enough to comprehend and perform accordingly. It is best to do your yoga meditation barefooted and on a yoga mat. The advice is for you to buy a yoga mat, otherwise, a blanket or a big towel can suffice.

Yoga meditation instructors advise practicing yoga meditation in the morning, while your stomach is still unfilled. It's the time that your minds are still lucid and relaxed.

You must maintain an even and deep breathing when you perform one position and go to the next in sequence. Your oxygen supply is vastly increased, which you will need to be able to lengthen your stretches. At the same time your mind is also pacified as you center your thoughts to your internal self and focus on your postures.

It is only yoga, among all exercises, that can lead you into more intense spirituality as it grows a part of your usual routine. The benefits to your physical self from habitually performing yoga allows you to prevail over the strain on your body and mind and assist you in overcoming any challenge you encounter in life.

Meditation for Inner Peace

Posted: 05 Feb 2012 03:00 PM PST

Article by Chris Jones

Today, many people are discovering meditation as a tool to access their spirituality and to bring harmony and cohesion into their lives. The benefits of meditation are many, including improving clarity and focus; facilitating in centering oneself and assisting in the development of intuition. However one of the key reasons why meditation is taken up is to help bring inner peace, for which there is much empirical and experiential evidence to its success. It is the area of meditation and inner peace I would like to concentrate on in this article.

An exciting study on children and meditation has been carried out in the Australian State of Victoria by Monash University. Working with the students from two Primary Schools, who had been taken through a ten week 'mindful meditation course' they were able to conclude that it had a significant impact on their mental health.

The study which was published in the April issue of 'Advances in School Mental Health Promotion, reported on an improvement in concentration, emotional control, socialisation skills and the ability to relax.

Teaching staff noted how much the children enjoyed meditation and that it focused and prepared them for the day ahead.

Eminent Political Journalist Candy Crowley told the Los Angeles Times of recent positive changes in her life, citing the taking up of meditation as being the 'most significantly transforming.'

Two or three times a day Miss Crowley breaks from her demanding schedule with CNN to practice meditation. This has resulted in viewers and colleagues alike noticing that she is looking 'slimmer, healthier, and a little more serene.' She told the newspaper that she is feeling lighter in lots of ways now.

According to a recent report set up by the Mental Health Foundation, meditation therapy should be routinely available on the National Health Service to treat depression and to facilitate in combating the growing mental health problems in the UK. This would radically reduce the rapidly increas! ing bill for drugs which are now considered to be ineffective in addressing recurring bouts of depression.

The Buddhist influenced Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy trains people to concentrate their thoughts rather than to allow them to be affected by more negative influences such as regret and worry.

A study carried out ten years ago indicated that amongst patients offered MBCT there was a relapse rate of 37% against 66% amongst those not offered it. A second study in 2004 was even more convincing. This time the relapse rates were recorded as 36% and 78%. A further study from last year confirmed these results.

To find out more about meditation, simply type meditation into google or consult a local directory to find out about meditation courses near you.

Here is a simple meditation that you can try.

1. Sit upright with your back supported. Ensure that your neck is not supported as this induces sleep.

2.Close your eyes, soften and relax each part of your body.

3. Breathe evenly through the nostrils and observe the inhale and exhale.

4. When thoughts arise notice them and gently return to observing your breath.

Be easy on yourself and avoid meditating for too long in the beginning. It is rather like physical exercise, build up gradually. For an absolute beginner five minutes at a time would be plenty long enough.

Healing Meditation For Cancer Patients

Posted: 05 Feb 2012 02:00 PM PST

Article by Neelima Reddy

If you are looking for an alternative means of healing to benefit your physical body and your soul, healing meditation is the answer. It is not only healing, but is a personal journey that connects your heart and your mind, and meditation strategies will be able to help you prevent sickness or deal with terminating illnesses with peace of mind.

Cancer patients are those that can benefit the most from healing meditation. It provides them with a way to see things with a renewed sense of peace and fulfillment despite the disease they may have, in an all-natural way that doesn't involve costly medication, drugs, or chemicals to add on to their existing treatments. There are significant benefits of the use of healing meditation for cancer patients, which is why it has grown in popularity as a tool to assist in healing and development of patients:

* Healing meditation technique helps to develop the positive attitude for cancer patients that will help them cope with their disease. It also greatly helps to assist in healing, which is why meditation is taught in cancer clinics around the world. It works great together with medical treatment to help improve the lives of cancer patients.

* Because of the renewed sense of peacefulness and calmness that meditation brings, cancer patients can still enjoy a better quality of life. They will be able to smile and laugh more even at the simplest things, instead of feeling depressed.

* Through the regular practice of healing meditation, patients will be able to focus their energies on positive aspects of their life through better breathing and a more relaxed state of mind. Many cancer patients tend to be depressed with their diagnosis and forget all the other joyful aspects of life, and we know that this kind of attitude may be inevitable but will also not speed up healing. Healing meditation provides them with the tools to be able to overcome depression.

* Studies have also shown that due to the practice of healing meditation by ca! ncer pat ients, these bring about physiological changes that may actually reduce the size and growth of tumors. It has also been reported that those who practice meditation have a higher survival rate than those who do not. However, it should be noted that healing meditation should not be seen as curative therapy for anything but rather complementary treatment for cancer patients.

* There are no side effects to healing meditation for cancer patients. However, ensure that a licensed professional is the only one you will entrust any cancer patient to. Series of breathing techniques and meditation exercises that teach one to love more and open their mind is the best thing you can give to any cancer patient.

Because of the significant growing evidence of healing meditation in the lives of cancer patients, more and more doctors today are prescribing it as complementary therapy for their patients. As a matter of fact, they even recommend it to other patients, especially those who are suffering from depression and stress.

2 Beginner Meditation Strategies

Posted: 05 Feb 2012 01:00 PM PST

Article by Sherri Haggard

When it comes to meditation, there are many benefits. Meditation can reduce stress, lower your breathing rate, decrease your headaches, and help you get rid of muscle tension. Overall gives you a sense of calm and peace.

When it comes to meditation, many people think you must travel to the Far East and learn from the masters to meditate. The simple truth learning to meditate can be learned in a few minutes. Basically meditation comes down to learning to quiet the mind.

Meditation Mantras

For the beginner you could try mantra meditation. Mantras are a syllable, or words, or even a phrase that are repeated over and over to produce change. Mantra meditations are effective due to the vibrations from the sound being repeated over and over.

A couple of the most used mantras are Om and Maranatha. The Himalayan sages handed down Om, the symbol for the primordial vibration. For Christians who want meditate, a Catholic priest named John Main suggested Maranatha (Come Lord).

Beginning to Meditate

1. Anyhow, first find a quiet comfortable place.2. Take some deep breaths.3. Chant Om (Maranatha) about 6 times with long breaths.4. Take another deep breath.5. Repeat the process again.6. Rest in silence do this for 20 minutes daily you will see fantastic inner changes just by chanting Om (Maranatha).Meditate with a Candle1. Another technique I like is to use a candle.2. Be sure to go back to your quiet place.3. Get comfortable relax.4. It takes about 10 to 20 minutes.5. Light the candle you are going to be concentrating and directing your focus on the flame. In the exercise, you want to direct all you focus on the flame.6. Slow your breath down. Breaths deeply, slow everything down and focus on the flame. You will have thoughts. Let them go. Just focus on the flame empty your thoughts. Just relax. With practice, it gets easier. These are some basic meditation practices. With practice, you will find meditation becomes easier. Practice and focus is what makes med! itation successful. About the Author

Meditation in Phuket, Thailand - Your Path to Mental Enlightenment

Posted: 05 Feb 2012 11:00 AM PST

Article by Exotissimo Travel

Is meditation something you have always wanted to learn more about but never known how or where to do so? No worries! Exotissimo has a half day session devoted solely on meditation training! You will learn the fundamental techniques used in mediation, then venture up on a hilltop temple to put what you learned into practice.

First, let's briefly touch on meditation, and realize what it does for the body and mind. When one is meditating, the person is making a conscious effort to change how his/her mind works. For example, someone may resort to anger too quickly but would like to change this aspect of him or herself. He/she may remind him or herself not to get angry, but when a certain situation arises, ends up being crossed anyway because anger has arisen within without him or her knowing it. Mediation can assist in developing that awareness to improve mental habits like involuntary anger.

Meditation starts with breathing. How many times during the day have you actually noticed yourself inhaling and exhaling for air? Don't worry if you said none. Many do not realize they are even breathing throughout the day. It is, however an important facet during meditation, and it will help you make your mind clearer and more lucid. A comfortable sitting position is also important; many choose to sit in the traditional cross-legged posture while others may choose to rest on a chair. To prevent the mind from being sluggish, your back must be straight at all time. Sit with your eyes partially closed and breathe naturally.

You may find that your mind is busy, even more so than normal as you are meditating. The fact of the matter is that you are becoming more aware of how busy your mind actually is. It is tempting to wander off and concentrate on what the mind is thinking during meditation. If you find yourself doing that, just quickly focus back to your breathing.

Alright, now you know some meditation basics that you can practice at home. For you to be able to meditate properly and mo! re effec tively, it is best to seek out advice from renowned monks who practice it every day. Our Meditation Training in Phuket day trip takes you to several temples where you will learn a variety of meditation techniques and methods. After absorbing all this information, you will practice it on a hilltop temple with a breathtaking view, a perfect place to relax the mind!

But wait, you don't have to restrict your meditation training just to Phuket. You can always contact us if you would like to include meditation training in any of our tours. All of our programs are customizable, so feel free to tell Exotissimo what you would like to do during your Southeast Asian holiday and we will work towards your ideal vacation!

Meditation - Take Back Your Life

Posted: 05 Feb 2012 10:00 AM PST

Article by Anthony McBride

Meditation is one of the easiest forms of relaxation, stress relief and performance building options available today. Nothing special is required in order to meditate and can be done just about anywhere. You can meditate with as little as 10 minutes once you gain experience in reaching the quiet space that meditation is characterized. When you first start meditating, it may be difficult to reach this space. Start by using a guided meditation technique. This type of technique is good in teaching you to reach the quite spot necessary to receive the benefits of meditation in your life. Guided meditations take longer whether you are doing them by yourself or though a class. Once you know how to reach this quiet spot, you can generally do it with just a few deep breaths this is the place you are aiming for when you begin learning meditation. The purpose of being able to blank your mind is that many people do not realize how much work their brain does as well as the stress that it places on the body. Consider your daily to do list. Many people keep this list in their heads; it is constantly being updated and changed. You worry about work, home, kids, money and you think about these things every second of the day. These extra thoughts can have a direct effect on your ability to perform because it damages your focus. Consider how much faster you could get a project done if you were relaxed and had no other thoughts but that particular project. You could easily reason out solutions to problems because do not have your focus divided among dozens of different things. Meditation can help you to accomplish this type of focus. Once you gain experience in meditation you can reach this level of clear-minded focus with only a few deep breaths and a few minutes of time. You can help to eliminate stress, nervousness, anxiety, and bring everything you have to offer to the table in every aspect of your life each time. Meditation allows you to release tension from your body. Stress can cause your muscles to tense up. ! This cau ses you to become tired faster, it also causes stiffness, pain, and aches all of which can be distracting, uncomfortable and draining. Meditation not only allows you to calm your mind and focus on a single thing but it also allows you to make note of tension within the body and release that tension. Mediation is best done when you have at least 15 minutes of free time. When you meditate, you can do so with music or with simple quiet but you should do it when you know that you are not going to be disturbed by phones, kids or partners. If you choose music, consider music that does not have vocals or natural sounds as these types of music selections tend to make it easier to relax and are less likely to be distracting. Meditation can easily be part of your before bed routine or even your quick breaks during the day during work.
