Manali Hadimba Temple Festival This May 2011

The large Manali Hadimba Temple Festival takes place in a temple located in the breathtaking Dhungiri Forest. The temple was built in 1553 and is a four tiered pagoda with a beautiful faade of wood carvings.

Even when not serving as the host site of the Manali Hadimba Temple Festival, it is a major tourist attraction due to its beauty and history. It is listed as one of the most popular destinations in Manali. With the exception of when the festival is taking place, the temple is a peaceful and quiet location, excellent for meditation and reflection. The location is especially popular among nature lovers, who like to get to the temple early in the day to explore the forest around the site.

As part of the event, the surrounding villages bring their individual gods and goddesses to join in on the celebration. These come dressed up and are carried in by the villagers who worship them. Traditional music is played to accompany the procession.

The festival is all about the local people and their culture. In addition to the local villages' deities, local artists join in to perform dances, including the Kulu Natti folk dance.

This is not the only singing, dancing and music that goes on. The entire festival, which continues for three days, is filled with the sights and sounds of music, dancing and celebration.
