Our saints and sages often reiterate, Start your life early, do not do late. Getting up early in the morning around 3:00 is considered best for spiritual development according to Hindu God Brahma. Have you ever contemplated about the benefits of waking up early in the morning? Large numbers of scientific and philosophical researches carried out by many experts in United state of America have clearly proved this fact. Early in the morning, after doing daily sanitation of yourself and defecation, practice of Yoga postures and meditations helps us to achieve optimum benefits and strong belief in these age long philosophical practice. In my own life, during the first week of my beginning it was very difficult to stick rigidly with my time table but gradually I adapt on my planning without any reluctance feeling in my interior. This achievement is because of the fact that if we attach and indulge our-self in some irritating task continuously keeping enough patience, at last our endocrines get habituated to secret related hormones and bio-molecules, body gets adjusted in its flexibility, our brain becomes addicted with that particular task and our heart finally become harmonize with the spirit of that duty. That practice which looked violent ghost initially, transforms into a intimate fellow or caretaker or a nice beloved at last. You do many useless things within your sense or out of your senses frequently. In Einstein view, over 50% of active time period of a normal man is always wasted. This reality is really painful. It would be better to learn and apply enthusiastically a new useful teaching instead of this aforementioned loss. It is like generating high voltage electricity utilizing water that is following away your territory. This philosophical ideas may seem childish but it surely convey a great meaning to you, to everyone who want to change their scenario permanently. Early in the morning, atmosphere is clean( dust particles has been precipitated on the ground), there is appropriate humidity i! n air an d air contains different types of plant aroma( good for our health according to Ayurveda). Back Pain Freed with Driving Yoga Part 2

Back Pain Freed with Driving Yoga Part 2

In this posture, the tail bone is bearing weight on the seat. In addition, the arms are elevated forward to reach the steering wheel. If there is one posture guaranteed to give you back and neck pain while driving, this is it!

Exercise balls are also great tools to keep handy and one of the primary physical therapy supplies that helps reduce back pain. Something as simple as sitting on an exercise ball and bouncing lightly for a certain amount of time each day is beneficial for the lower back because it distributes the fluid in the lower spine, aiding in pain relief and flexibility.

Low back pain is often aggravated by a sendentary lifestyle. There are many types of exercises which will benefit lower backs that utilize the yoga ball. Ask your physical therapist or physician to recommend some exercises specific to your condition.

Before performing sport or exercise the advice is always to check with a doctor for assurance it is safe to do the activity. This is particularly pertinent if pain or discomfort is already evident. The causes of low back pain are, however, multifarious and are not always easily diagnosed. This does not necessarily prevent exercise or posture work that may benefit the condition being performed with suitable care and precautions.

Tight hip muscles contribute to a myriad of problems in the human body including lower back pain, compression in the lumbar spine which can contribute to arthritis in the joints of the lower spine, knee problems, and shoulder problems. Opening up the hips can help to restore neutral alignment in the pelvis, which improves alignment throughout the body releasing tension for the lower back, knees, and shoulders. This video uses yoga postures to open the hip flexor and hip rotator muscles for improved body alignment and function.

Vertical vibration on the driver's seat, along with any road shock (from railroad crossings, chuck holes, etc.), intensify this rocking motion ! of the p elvis. The result is even greater bending stresses to the lower back. The harmful effect of road shock and vibration to the spine is also increased from the tail bone bearing weight on the seat in a slumped driving posture.

Body Awareness: Doing yoga will give you an increased awareness of your own body. You are often called upon to make small, subtle movements to improve your alignment. Over time, this will increase your level of comfort in your own body. This can lead to improved posture and greater self-confidence.

Back Pain Free with Driving Yoga Part 4

When getting out of bed, don't even dare trying quick movements. Instead, you should slowly edge your way to the side of the bed and then push yourself up with your arms. That way you don't use your back muscles as much.

Yoga exercises will help you improve your lung capacity, deepen your connection with gravity, and lengthen your spine. You will learn to harness gravity as a positive contributor to functional movement.

You will open the breathing apparatus and give the nervous system and adrenal glands that contribute to stress and the fight or flight response a break and access the parasympathetic nervous system, so that important tasks such as digestion and improved immune function can take place.

By lengthening the spine you will improve your posture and alignment throughout the body for greater ease and less muscular tension.

"Regular exposure to whole-body vibration over many months or years can lead to damage and back pain. The longer you are exposed and the higher the level of whole-body vibration, the greater the chances of you suffering a back injury," HSE writes. "Once you begin to suffer back pain, continued exposure to vibration is likely to make the pain worse."

Once a herniation, always a herniation. Intervertebral discs function to cushion the spine and absorb shock. A herniated disc is essentially a disc with a hole in it. In a herniation, the annulus fibrosis (the tough outer membrane of the disc) is breached, and the softer, inner membrane (the nucleus pulposis) extrudes. ! Pain occ urs when the extrusion comes into contact with a nerve.

Obviously taught and prepared by somebody that has never experienced lower back pain. Yes, yoga in general is good for spinal health.

Research in just the last ten years, based on new imaging techniques has shown, revealing a new model of spinal health that is not straight or rigid, but flexible, plastic and curved. Additionally, modern sedentary lifestyles, long hours driving or in front of the computer, severely compromise posture, the source of pain and discomfort.

How A Meditation Chair Can Help You

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 05:00 AM PST

Article by Hassan

People usually meditate so that they can have a clear mind and a calm state during the day. Meditation has many benefits for a lot of people, and it makes them feel better and can improve one's life greatly. When people meditate, they want to feel relaxed and comfortable so that they can go deeply into their meditation, and one great way to do this is through getting a meditation chair.

Being uncomfortable while meditating is something that definitely distracts people and causes them to not be able to mediate properly. In order to meditate well, you must have a comfortable position and area to be in. It is hard to mediate at first, and it is even harder when you are uncomfortable.

When people think of meditation they usually associate it with sitting cross-legged or in the lotus position. While this may be a comfortable position for some people, it is not for most. If this position is not comfortable for you, then you need not take it while you are meditating. It is much more important for you to be comfortable.

There are different places that you can meditate, as long as they make you feel comfortable. You can meditate on your bed, on the floor, on an armchair, anywhere that is comfortable for you. Though, the danger of this is that you could fall asleep in the middle of meditation, which is something that most people do not want.

This is why it is important to have a specific chair for meditation. There are lots of different chairs that you can use for meditation, with different designs. There are tilt chairs and benches and other kinds of chairs. There are even those that are foldable so they are easy to store and so you can move them around easily.

These chairs are great for meditation since they are created specifically so that you can be in the correct position for meditation. Being in the wrong position can be quite uncomfortable and can disrupt you during your meditation. With the right chair design and cushions, you will always be in a good posture.

Be! fore buy ing a meditation chair, it is important that you try out the different designs so that you can find the one that fits you the best. Remember to make sure that it is not going to make you fall asleep but it is still comfortable for you to meditate in. This way, you will have much better meditation sessions than ever before.

What Is The Phenomenon Of "Generalization" In Hypnosis?

The phenomenon of generalization relates to the companion benefits that come as a side effect of the primary purpose. When one enters into hypnosis or meditation - even for a specific purpose, as for instance to improve their study skills or to control their appetite - they also become clearer, wiser, calmer, and improve their vital signs. As a metaphor, realize this... One cannot learn to play the piano or the guitar without becoming more sensitive to music in general. One cannot learn to swim without improving their health. One cannot learn a foreign language without becoming more culturally sensitive.

Back Pain and Yoga Guide Part 2

Article by Glen Wood - The Yoga Teacher

Yogic breathing and upper body exercises, however, can be extremely beneficial. After successful treatment gradual resumption of lower body postures can be very effective for developing lower body and abdominal strength and stability helping you with your back pain. As with any discipline it is always best to find the best teachers you can, and to study diligently.

In the first randomized trial of Iyengar yoga and back pain, 60 participants were placed in either a yoga group or an educational group. Both programs lasted 16 weeks. Participants had experienced low back pain for an average of 11.2 years, and 48% used pain medication. At the end of the study and at a three-month follow-up, those in the yoga group had significant reductions in back pain intensity, functional disability (including spinal range of motion), and use of pain medication. The results compare favourably with results obtained with physical therapy.

Chronic pain may be associated with a range of physical, social and psychological components. Although you may have taken effective steps to eliminate or reduce the physical causes of your back pain, these may not have been enough to address any associated changes in your personality or mental health. An approach such as biofeedback helps address your state of mind and can help you relax muscles.

Although other types of Yoga offer variations to the poses for students with limitations, the emphasis is usually still on form, rather than function. Viniyoga can adapt every Asana not only to accommodate limitations, but also to achieve a different outcome from the same pose, or simply to enhance the results of any given pose for a particular body type.

You then learn how to produce these changes yourself. The goal is to help you enter a relaxed state in which you can better cope with your back pain. Reviews of studies on the use of biofeedback in people with chronic low back pain, show conflicting evidence regarding its effectiveness.

A new type of physica! l therap y, called Souchard's global postural re-education, helps relieve back pain symptoms due to degenerative disk disease, according to research presented at the 2005 American Academy of Neurology Annual Meeting. The method involves stretching weakened muscles around the spine and stomach. Researchers studied 102 people who had at least 7 months of severe back pain due to disk disease and who had received different types of treatment for more than 6 months.

Yoga and Back Pain Part 2

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 03:00 AM PST

Article by Glen Wood - The Yoga Teacher

Although back pain is often caused by an injury to one or more of the structures of the back, it may have another cause. Factors that increase your risk for back pain and injury include getting older, having a family history of back pain, sitting for long periods, lifting or pulling heavy objects, or having a degenerative disease such as osteoporosis. Chronic pain syndrome caused by a previous injury or degenerative disease with aging can cause back pain. Many problems in the neck resulting from injury, recurring work strain, stress, and possibly joint degeneration can lead to head pain. Sudden back pain is characterized by: pain which lasts less than a month and half swelling and/or bruising in the area of injury.

Problems

Thai or yoga massage, physiotherapy or spinal therapy treatment for this type of back injury usually give good results and can reduce recovery time and prevent ongoing problems. Injuries such as sprains and fractures, mechanical problems including muscle spasms and imbalance and herniated discs, various acquired conditions of the spine including osteoporosis and rarely, infections and tumours may all give rise to back pain.

Still other studies have found that problems in the cervical spine can cause pain similar to headache. Walking and other cardiovascular exercises have been found to reduce and/or alleviate chronic pain problems, including a tension headache. Whether resulting from a severe or minor injury or daily wear and tear, most people will suffer from back problems at some point in their lives.

Work comfort and design will help most back problems that occur in the workplace which are caused by physical stress, such as being in an awkward position for a long time, making the same motions over and over, and simply using your back too much. Back pain is one of the most common medical problems, which will affect about eight out of 10 people at some point during their lives.

Medical

Medical reports on yoga. Many doctors are now verif! ying tha t yoga is beneficial in treating a number of health problems, including back pain. Until recently headaches were largely considered a nuisance by the medical community and many other health care providers. Headaches are one of the most common reasons that people seek both medical and body work or chiropractic treatment. Because of their greater flexibility and lack of age related degeneration, children and teenagers are much less prone than adults to develop medically significant back pain.

In spite of the magnitude of the problem, a simple, effective cure for backache has proved elusive to modern medical science other than yoga. With a burning sensation of shoulder pain, desk bound and computer users may suffer from back pain on different sides of the body.

Guided Meditation Script – Use One To Achieve The Deep Meditative Levels

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 01:00 AM PST

Article by Giselle Toner

There is no dearth of people wanting to join the supernatural bandwagon, but some fail to do so because they find it hard to concentrate and achieve the deep meditative state required to experience true meditation. A guided meditation script can be a useful instrument to help the meditation practitioner achieve the desired transformational experiences. A lot of yoga and meditation practitioners have found meditation scripts invaluable for finding the realm of altered states of reality. It is difficult to reach the desired pinnacle of inner experiences without a relaxed mind.

Definition of a guided scriptA guided meditation script is a series of verbal prompts played from a Yoga DVD or an audio tape to lead the practitioner through the meditation. The verbal cues are designed to achieve deep meditative self-awareness and altered states of consciousness. The prompts can be from a live person or from a mix of sound and music. It is preferred that the music not contain any lyrics as they can be a distraction in themselves. Binaural beats are a popular choice among yoga and meditation practitioners. Binaural beats entrain the brain waves at frequencies that allow easier transitions into a blissful state of self-awareness.

Advantages of guided scriptsA guided meditation script is immensely helpful when it comes to staying focused during meditation. It is not very difficult to lose your focus and find your thoughts drift away while sitting in a silent, semi-darkened room. In comparison, meditation scripts have been found to be very effective in getting the practitioner to the level of concentration required for attaining the relaxed state of mind. Once you have reached that meditative state, you will experience the most reflective and philosophical breakthroughs. It is up to you to select what you think can be more useful for you from an array of meditation scripts available.

The possibilities are unlimited and will present themselves to you provided you are looking for ! them and looking in the right place: inside yourself. Be a believer and open up your mind and soul and you will discover a whole new world of meditative and health benefits of yoga. You can rest assured that this will be an experience like none other.

You can find guided meditation scripts at a book store near you, music shops, shops that specialize in mystical books, online, or at Eternity-Yoga.Com, along with Yoga DVD, Newsletters and more yoga and meditation guidance.

Wanting Stillness Of Mind Learn Meditation

Posted: 28 Dec 2011 12:00 AM PST

Article by Randolph Summitt

Words such as think, reflect, contemplate and ruminate may sometimes be taken as synonyms for meditate. However, these are all actions that happen fairly naturally, without conscious effort or painfully developed expertise. For lasting benefits one has to learn to meditate and that takes directed effort.

The philosopher who fell in a hole as he was walking along reflecting was not meditating. Had he been meditating he would have been sitting still. Movement disrupts meditation and distracts the mind. As in the case of the hole, sudden accidents and developments destroy the stillness that is a requisite for meditation.

High flying academics are often distinguished by their capacity to think with single minded purpose about a literary or mathematical problem that besets them. This mental concentration may seem like meditation but it is not because it is more likely to stimulate the mind and make it restless. However an important aspect of meditation is that it calms the mind, so in this respect intellectual focus is very different.

Diverse religions use meditation as means of prosecuting their purposes. However, in itself the practice of meditation is not the preserve of any one religion. Religion and meditation may have the same outcomes but it is not necessary to subscribe to a particular religious dogma in order to learn how to meditate.

However, religious practice and meditation have a great deal in common. Both require discipline. In order to meditate a person needs to exclude all distractions, and perhaps keep repeating a mantra which is a word, sound or even a prayer. This cannot be sustained indefinitely and so successful meditation becomes a concentrated effort that ends in a sense of relaxation and peace.

Another benefit of learning how to meditate is self knowledge. This can come through self control and also through focusing some meditation on one's place in the scheme of things. In eastern religions particularly much emphasis is placed on knowing the self.! That ma y be a reason why meditation often plays a significant role in such religions.

People who have practiced meditation for some time often begin to experience health benefits. This may not be so surprising in light of the fact that it probably helps to reduce stress by widening the individual perspective and helping him a person to get priorities in the right order. It is well known that stress is one of the prime reasons for ill health, so stress reduction and good health should fit together logically.

It is not easy to learn to meditate. Time must be set aside for stillness and busy people do not always feel that sitting still and concentrating the mind on a single subject is something that they have time for. At first they may fret as they close themselves away from urgent demands upon their attention. It has to be understood that doing what may seem irrelevant does have long term significance as a time saving practice. Moreover, once the art of meditation has been learnt the daily session can becomes so satisfying that it may easily be accepted as a priority.

Relieve Back Pain with Special Yoga Exercises

Posted: 27 Dec 2011 09:00 PM PST

Article by Glen Wood - The Yoga Teacher

The Tension Myositis Syndrome (TMS) is the leading cause of pain in different parts of the body such as neck, shoulders, back, limbs, and buttocks. Surprisingly, TMS is caused not by structural deformities, but the mind's attempt to repress emotions. This is not to say that the pain is all in the mind. Rather, the mind has the ability to create real physical troubles that may wreak havoc on the nerves, muscles, ligaments, or tendons. A bodily injury may give rise to the disorder, but it is not the root cause of the resulting pain. In fact, the mind redirects its repressed emotion into the body, and this creates pain in your nerves, muscles, ligaments, or tendons.

Fortunately, there is an effective way to completely relieve lower back pain-special yoga exercises for back troubles.

How do you know if you have a good posture? Stand in from of a tall mirror and pose in your usual manner. You should not be shocked to see your shoulders round and fall forward while your pelvis turns back. You can ass an inch to your height right away just be pushing your pelvis forward and pulling your shoulders back. Turn sideways and repeat the pose. Make sure that the ear, shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle are perfectly aligned. For a few hundred bucks, you can get a posture analysis at a spine and physical therapy center.

The number one rule in performing yoga poses is that the littlest pain is a sign that something is wrong with your body. If you are just starting out with yoga, it is advised that you do in under the supervision of a qualified yoga instructor and listen to what he or she advises you.

Scoliosis treatment includes using braces or undergoing surgery. Other patients try exercise, chiropractic manipulation, and electrical muscle stimulation. Exercise alone cannot treat scoliosis, but it can greatly help in ensuring good health.

Back Pain Freed with Driving Yoga Part 1

Back Pain Freed with Driving Yoga Part 1

If health professionals paid more attention to driving posture and the science of sitting, they would have fewer patients to treat for back pain. Instead, their "state of the art" advice to patients is: 1) Use a rolled towel or lumbar support in the lower back when driving, and 2) get out of the car and stretch after every 15-30 minutes of driving. This typical advice shows absolutely no understanding of the dynamics of driving posture and back pain, yet this advice comes at an hourly rate of at least 0 to 0!

If you find yourself stiff and cranky after driving just 15 minutes you are not alone. 8 out of 10 drivers suffer from Repetitive Driving Injuries, according to a study by Ergonomic expert Professor Mark Porter of Loughborough University. The five most common RDI's are foot cramps, lumbar/lower back pain, stiff neck, side ache, and headache/eye strain. His findings show that 65% of drivers in the study reported having low back trouble, 43% neck trouble and 40% shoulder trouble. Sound familiar?

By identifying what your driving style is, you can learn how to adjust your car seat to reduce the incidence of RDI's. Ergonomic adjustments and low back pain exercises will help you avoid those symptoms. By adding simple Yoga poses and Yoga exercises to your drive, you'll feel more energized and recover more quickly from commuter fatigue. You'll leave road rage in the dust after practicing yoga in your car and using the suggested breathing techniques. Yoga exercises are a great, anti-aging way for getting more healthy and for stress relief. Now you can get these benefits even in stressful situations like being stuck in gridlock on your commute.

Most individuals are well aware of the results from conforming their bodies to car seats when commuting to work and travelling: low back pain, upper back and neck pain, headaches, and fatigue. These common health complaints develop from a slumped sitting posture that rounds the back and shoulder! s, restr icts diaphragmatic breathing, and protrudes the lower abdomen.

This slumped driving posture is characterized by a collapsed trunk with a round back, round shoulders, and a forward head posture. The relaxation of the lower abdominal and back muscles in this posture increases the stress to the back ligaments and discs.

Also notice that the pelvis can slid forward on the car seat, away from the lower backrest.

Article by Rockeysheen01

Any kind of process in this world needs a beginning. And interestingly the beginning is the most difficult part. Once you start the process, it is quite easy to progress in that, but making the first go at it is important and difficult as well. The same applies for meditation as well. This is the reason that there are special techniques of meditation for beginners. Through these techniques people learn the basic things that are associated with meditation. Once they know the various ways of meditation at the initial levels, it is not difficult for them to learn the advanced techniques. Meditation is having total control on the mind and the body. Through the various meditation techniques it is possible to combat many problems in your life. In the initial stages of meditation for beginners this is taught to the students. If you are still confused as from where to start the process, it is best if you join a meditation class. If that is not possible, you can also choose other mediums that can help you in learning meditation in a great way. Check out magazines on meditation, read books on the same or you can also study the various kinds of videos that are related with the same. Meditation for beginners begins with choosing a proper place and a proper posture. In the initial levels, it is very important that you choose a place which is away from the din and bustle of life. It is preferable if meditation is practiced early morning when the mind and the body remain fresh and fine. Choose a place which is open and well ventilated. You can practice meditation on the terrace of your house or in an open park, wherever is comfortable for you. You can also meditate in your own room by opening all the windows and well-ventilating it. The posture of meditation also matters a lot in meditation. In the various techniques of meditation for beginners, it is advised that people should have a correct posture for meditation. Sit straight with your back upright. Breathing exercises practiced in this posture can give wond! erful re sults to the beginners of meditation. They can feel the change from outside and inside. However, never overstrain yourself in doing this. Do as much is comfortable with you. Once you catch up with the process, the body will have increased capacity to accommodate more exercises and meditation techniques.

My first love "Painting"

(Please excuse the horrible audio) I have previously used many mediums, before I stumbled across Acrylics. Upon the discovery of Acrylic paint back in 2003, I immediately feel in love. I was in complete awe and dazzled at the feeling I got when I would paint. As much as I struggle initially surprisingly I still enjoyed it!! I knew this was the stuff for me, after my 5th painting it was pretty much a piece of cake!!! Painting is one of my those passions that is deeply in-bedded in me and when I do it i enjoy, accompanied with some music it puts me in a meditative state that is somewhat relaxing. this is a Lily Flower acrylic on canvas 38x48. Knee and Back Pain with the Help of Yoga Part 1

Posted: 27 Dec 2011 06:00 PM PST

Article by Glen Wood - The Yoga Teacher

Knee And Back Pain with the Help of Yoga Part 1

Knee and back pain can be alleviated through practice of both yoga postures that stretch and strengthen the muscles around the knee joint. With knees, make sure that the knee stays in line with the ankle and does not twist in or out. Avoid seated postures that have the knee turned out to the side (like bound angle, seated head to knee). When doing postures with the knees on the floor, make sure you use a blanket or other padding so you do not feel any pain or intense pressure.

You should set up a specific goal for the day and try to attain it, however much it hurts (within reason). A beginning goal might be to walk half a block a day and increase the distance gradually over time. Doctors and physical therapists can help determine safe and effective ways to recondition your bodies. Initially, it will hurt. The muscles have not been used for a long time. The pain signifies that the muscle being exercised has been weakened by lack of use. Gentle stretching exercises such as yoga are very useful, this will help your knee and back pain.

With knee pain, over a period of time the lower back will also begin to suffer. As the pressure of relieving the 'weak' knee is transferred to the other, which in turn puts pressure on the lower back.

You may not notice this shift as the body is really good at compensating and with the imbalance now in place, this now becomes the 'norm' as the body tries to re-balance itself. Sometimes back pain will be felt, not always.

Even if you do practice yoga, it is always a good idea to have your body/spine checked for imbalances by your healthcare professional. Visiting your osteopath, spinal therapist, chiropractor, massage therapist every now and again will help you to be more aware of your body and to take steps to rectify any imbalances.

The researchers say that exercise has previously been shown to relieve chronic low back pain, but this is the first study to suggest yoga may be superior ! to other forms of exercise. "Yoga may be beneficial for back pain because it involves physical movement, but it may also exert benefits through its effects on mental focus," they write. This focus could help patients "increase their awareness of how they had been moving and positioning their body in maladaptive ways, to relax tense muscles, and to relieve mental stress."

How Yoga Asana Are Better From Other Physical Exercises

Posted: 27 Dec 2011 05:00 PM PST

Article by Yoga Freak

Yogasanas are often believed to be yet another form of exercise. All physical exercises, including yoga, impose a beneficial stress on the body, without which the muscles waste and the bones become weak. However, unlike other exercises, yoga techniques place the physical body in positions that also cultivate awareness, relaxation, concentration and meditation.Yoga is an exercise regimen that anyone can practice, no matter how old or young. Yoga is an ancient practice that benefits every age and body type.Yogasanas and exercises are different from each other, though apparently, both have similar purposes.

The basic differences between yogasanas and other exercises are as follows:In yogasanas, breath is synchronized with the movements; but not in exercise.Energy is conserved in yogasanas, whereas it is expended in exercise.Yoga lays a lot of emphasis on awareness, whereas in exercises it may not be there. Awareness in this context means consciously feeling sensations in the body-the physical movement, movement of prana, concentration on an area of the body or chakra, etc. Yogasanas have the concept of counter-poses, whereas it is not there in other exercises. In yoga backward bends are followed by forward bends and vice versa, and that whatever is practiced on one side of the body is repeated on the other side.Asanas stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, while exercises stimulate the sympathetic nervous system. When yogasanas are performed, respiration and metabolic rates slow down, and the consumption of oxygen and body temperature drop. Whereas in exercise, the breath and metabolism speed up, and oxygen consumption and body temperature rise.Physical exercises tend to overwork the joints and can often engender rheumatism and stiffness later in life. The opposite is the case with asanas. In yogasanas, glands and internal organs are strengthened; whereas in physical exercises, muscles are strengthened.Physical exercise tends to build up toxins in the body, whereas asanas eliminate them. !

Yoga as a Cure for Back Pain

Posted: 27 Dec 2011 04:00 PM PST

Article by Glen Wood - The Yoga Teacher

Office work can cause several health problems, which yoga seeks to address. One good example is the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome that affects the wrist of people who spend long hours on a computer.

When performed with correct elbow, shoulder, and wrist alignment, yoga asanas can help ease the pain of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. A yoga exercise that can relieve the tension from the tight hamstrings, lower back, and hip flexors is excellent for relieving back pain caused by sitting for a long time in an office chair.

Tensions can be released and an inspiring mood can be triggered with simple yoga exercises. Usually, frequent computer users experience pain and tension in the hands that uses the mouse, arms, shoulders, elbows, back, or neck. They also get eye problems, lethargy, and headaches that are also caused by tensions due to prolonged computer use. All these health problems keep an officer worker from carrying out his tasks efficiently.

Suffering from chronic pain in the back, neck, wrists, shoulders, hips, or knees? You are not alone. According to research, 80 percent of Americans experience lower back pain that is serious enough to necessitate taking pain relievers and consulting a health care specialist. Lower back pain placed seventh among the top reasons for hospitalizations in the United States in 1988.

Back pain is the leading cause of absenteeism among workers, and this costs businesses a whopping billion every year in medical benefits and lost productivity.

Short-term or acute lower back pain occurs from a few days to few weeks. Majority of cases of acute back pain are mechanical, usually caused by arthritis or trauma to the lower back. Back pain from trauma can be a result of sports injury, doing household chores, stress on spinal tissues and bones, and car accidents.

Back pain symptoms include restricted flexibility and range of movements, stabbing pain, muscle pains, and difficulty to stand straight. Back pain can also be caused by injury or disorder ! somewher e else in the body.

Yoga can enhance your body awareness, help you let go of unhealthy habits, train you to release tension, and lengthen your spine. It also works the muscles that are important in supporting the spine for a long time without pain. However, if a yoga pose is hurting you, stop doing it.

Meditation a SimpleTechnique To Relax and Calm You

Posted: 27 Dec 2011 03:00 PM PST

Article by sacha tarkovsky

Meditation is easy to do and can give you an instant feeling of calmness and relaxation.

Here we are going to outline a simple meditation technique that can be practiced by all, with 5 - 20 minutes to spare each day.

This mediation technique is simple and very effective and only takek you a few minutes to learn and will help you relax away from the stresses of everyday life.

What is meditation?

A definition accepted in most dictionaries for meditation is, continuous and profound contemplation or musing on a subject or series of subjects of a deep or abstruse nature. This is really reflection.

Meditation generally involves where one consciously discounts wandering thoughts and fantasies, and calming and focusing the mind, while controlling the breath, and sensory awareness.

So, the meaning in the dictionary is really referring to reflection or concentration, both pre-requisites for meditation, but not meditation itself.

For unless one can voluntarily control our basic life functions (such as breathing) and meaningfully turn off the senses to outside stimuli, one cannot even hope to enter into meditation.

Does this mean that meditation is open only for those who have mastered control of their own life forces? Not exactly.

Meditation to relax and calm your mind

There is one meditation anyone can do, and by doing it, one's life force itself comes under control; ones senses turn off, and the mind becomes quiet. Then the peace and realization that comes from true meditation comes to the practitioner. What is the name of this meditation, and how is it done?

A simple meditation technique for all

Its name is Soham, or Hamsa if one is following the meditation as taught by Paramhamsa Yogananda. Soham in sanskrit simply means I am He.

Even spoken over and over, the syllables merge...so one is saying Sohamsoham...I am He, He am I...it is a prayer and a meditation mantra which are spiritually charged word or series of words used a me! ditation theme.

If you but practice it once, you will see immediately its positive effects. One feels calm, and de-stressed.

One feels close ones intuition, and one feels as if the world of material things is less important due to its overbearing insignificance when compared to the bliss one feels in meditation.

How to mediate in simple steps

Let's see how it's done. Find a place where you feel most comfortable, and private...with as few distractions as possible.

Sit up straight with your spine in a line...do not slouch. You must be comfortable, so sit on a chair or on the floor with a soft mat or carpet underneath you.

Close your eyes, but in a relaxed manner. Now relax your whole body, part by part by first tensing that part, and then relaxing it.

When you feel completely relaxed, command your mind to be silent, your emotions to be still, keeping your body as relaxed as possible.

Now focus on the sound of your breath coming in. Associate that sound and feeling with the word So.

As you exhale, listen to the sound and associate it with the word Ham. As a guide, So sounds as does if you are saying it in English. Ham could actually be written as Hom, as the in Ham is very weak.

As you do this meditation, actually imagine the air entering your nose and traveling all the way down into your lungs. This is one So. As you exhale, you can imagine the air traveling out of the lungs, up to the nose and out of your body. This is one Ham.

Beginners in this meditation usually silently say the word So with each inhalation and the word Ham with each exhalation. Continue in this way, as long as you are comfortable, but no less than 5 minutes, and no longer than 20 minutes until the meditation feels natural to go longer.

This meditation technique will give you instant calmness

As you practice this meditation, you will see that So Ham So Ham becomes just Soham. Soham is by far the easiest meditation, and not be done with the breath controlled, and the s! enses no t picking up stimuli.

As breathing is natural, and it comes to all living creatures without any effort ang gives a feeling of instant relaxation and calmness.

The Art Of Silence: Meditation Techniques

Posted: 27 Dec 2011 12:00 PM PST

Article by Chris Impeterelli

In today's fast-paced world, many people are seeking a way to get away from it all and relax. Meditation, which is essentially a method to obtain a level of deep thought and relaxation, is one way to find inner peace and tranquility. Many people think of monks or other spiritual types sitting in crossed-leg position and reaching states of bliss when they think of mediation, but there are many ways to meditate. While there are many ways to reach a meditative state, there really are no right or wrong ways to mediate (this would defeat the purpose), only practice and finding ways that feel right for you.

Meditation is associated with many religions, but one does not need to be associated with any particular religion in order to meditate. You might want to investigate different methods, however, to find a form of mediation that feels most comfortable. One common method includes repeating a sound or word, called a mantra. Other forms of meditation involve focusing on a visual image, such as the flame of a candle or a symbol. Other meditative techniques involve breathing and physical movements, such as yoga or other breathing practices.

No matter what the method, the tools used in meditation are there to help users reach a state of mental relaxation. Many mediation techniques help you clear your mind of the constant thoughts that normally run through the mind. In reducing or eliminating these thoughts, one can reach a state of deep thought that is associated with meditation.

There are two primary approaches to meditation, which are concentrative meditation and mindfulness meditation. In concentrative meditation, the practitioner focuses on breath, an object, or a sound (mantra). In mindfulness meditation, the practitioner sits quietly and "observes" everything in the environment, including thoughts, sounds, smells, and more. In this form of meditation, the practitioner practices not reacting to the environment (both internal and external), which can lead to a greater ability to act! in a no n-reactive way in daily life. Both forms of meditation are useful, and one is no better than the other is. Personal preference may determine which method you choose, and you can always try both.

Both physical and mental benefits can result from meditation. This can include increased heart health through relaxation, lowered cholesterol and blood pressure, and a more youthful feeling. Mental benefits can be an increased sense of well-being, decreased anxiety and depression, and emotional stability. Meditation should not be used as a cure for physical or mental ailments, however, but it can be a powerful supplement. Those with physical or mental health conditions should consult with a health care professional before beginning a mediation practice.

Meditation can be quite physical, such as with some types of yoga, or seemingly passive, such as in mindfulness types of mediation. In addition to the types of meditation, there are different stages as well. Generally speaking, in early stages of meditation, the practitioner is more aware of the practice. He or she may have difficulty concentrating on breath or not reacting to thought. With practice, this moves into a stage where one is much less aware. This is followed by a stage of bliss, which is followed by very deep sense of self, followed by an ability to reach a stage of deep stillness.

There are many resources available on meditation. Those new to the practice may opt to take part in a class or guide when beginning. Others may prefer to read up on the various options and practice on his or her own. Visit the local library for books and resources or visit a yoga or spiritual center. Meditation can be an enjoyable experience and provide balance to an otherwise hectic life.

Guided Meditation To Make You Whole

Posted: 27 Dec 2011 11:00 AM PST

Article by Carl Walker

Guided meditation is a form of stress relief that is conducive to relaxing the whole body, in part by finding a way of peaceful and calming relaxation from within the body. Guided meditation may utilize soothing photographs or scenarios to enhance the ability of the mind to relax and guide the body to a point of relaxation so that the person in meditation can find a true sense of inner peace. Quite often, guided meditation will be accompanied by soft music or sounds of nature.

One of the keys to successfully having a session of Guided meditation is finding an area where the one meditating will be free of distractions. Any outside interference will prevent proper concentration and make the attempts at guided meditation futile and perhaps even frustrating, further aggravating the problem seeking to be solved by the very use of guided meditation.

After finding a suitable location for guided meditation, other factors need to be taken into consideration. Some practitioners of guided meditation feel that visual stimuli can be used to help achieve a sense of inner peace and help to achieve true relaxation. Still other practitioners of guided meditation feel that any outside visual simulation will detract from the mind's ability to properly focus on the body and the results of the guided meditation will be hindered or even reversed.

The same can be said for audio stimulation during sessions of guided meditation. While some individuals believe that soothing sound effects or even quiet music is conducive to the guided meditation, still others believe that it is only a hindrance and will do nothing more than create a harmful atmosphere for the practitioner of such guided meditation.

The basic concept of guided meditation is to relax. This is done by taking oneself on a guided tour of sorts through their own body. In the practice of guided meditation, it is normal to find a focus point in the body and begin there, someplace that is easy to relax. While staying focused on the body and ! in parti cular the muscles, the practitioner of guided meditation attempts to relax the muscles of the body. Allowing the body to completely relax allows the practitioner of guided meditation to next completely relax the mind.

When the mind and body are completely relaxed, the person can begin to concentrate on focusing his thoughts and ideas during the guided meditation. When using guided meditation, thoughts are usually thought to be transcendent and more in focus allowing the practitioner to perform better in all aspects of life. Whether or not guided meditation is right for a person is not only dependent on spiritual beliefs. Anyone contemplating the benefits of guided meditation must be seeking to improve themselves as a whole as well.

Meditation - An Amazing Stress Reduction Technique That Is Easy To Do

Posted: 27 Dec 2011 10:00 AM PST

Article by Cucan Pemo

Meditation has a reputation as an activity related to religious practices and hippy-dippy pseudo-science. This is unfortunate, because meditation is a simple, effective stress management tool that can be used by a anyone - and solid medical research has shown that meditation is highly effective as a way to lower stress and even manage pain.

It's particularly effective at the end of a long, stressful day - you can set aside a short period when you get home from work, meditate, and then enjoy your evening with a clear mind and more relaxed body.

Why meditation is great for stress

One of the pioneers of serious meditation research was Harvard's Dr. Herbert Benson, who's 1968 book "The Relaxation Response" showed that meditation had a measurable affect on stress, slowing breathing and heartbeat and lessening the body's natural fight-or-flight response. Meditation will allow you to relax your body and focus your thoughts, thus focusing your mind and allowing you to let go of the day's troubles. It allows your body to refresh its resources, which is good for your immune system, your blood pressure and your mental outlook.

When you meditate, your heart rate and breathing slow down, your blood pressure normalizes, and you use oxygen more efficiently. Your adrenal glands produce less cortisol, adrenaline and noradrenaline and you produce good, healing. Your mind clears, allowing you harper thought and greater creativity. Meditation has proved beneficial for people trying to give up smoking, drinking and drugs.

Simple meditation for anyone

Meditation isn't a mystical, mysterious practice. It's easy to do, and doesn't take any special equipment or training. Meditation involves sitting in a relaxed position and clearing your mind. There are a number of methods for meditation - you can focus on a sound (like "om"), or on your own breathing, or on an object, or on nothing at all. You just need at least 10 minutes of quiet, free of distraction, although some people find that,! with pr actice, they can meditate anywhere.

Here's a couple of basic techniques:

1) Simple Breathing Meditation

Find a quiet room, and sit in a comfortable position, either on the floor or in a chair. Close your eyes.

Consciously relax the muscles in your feet, then your calves, and work way up your body until everything is loose.

Now focus your attention on your breathing. Breathe in deeply through your nose, and then let your breath out through your mouth. Count your breaths, and say the number of the breath as you let it out, which helps you to focus your mind and avoid distraction.

Do this for 10 or 20 minutes, then allow yourself to slowly come back up to full speed.

2) Focused Object Meditation

Choose an object, any object - a vase of flowers, a burning candle, a beautiful piece of fabric with a complex design. It can even be a coffee mug or a lamp.

Examine the shape, colors, shadow and light, texture movement of the object. Breathe deeply and rhythmically, and let your mind go wherever it wants, but stay focused on the object. Allow yourself at least 10 minutes to examine every detail.

3) Focused Sound Meditation.

Make a sound, over and over, focusing entirely on the vibration and tone. The classic meditation sound is "Om," the Sanskrit word for perfection. Use the same rhythmic breathing to help slow your heartbeat and focus your mind.

4) Focused Imagery Meditation

Here, you create a mental image in your mind of a happy, relaxing place. You could be on a tropical beach, or floating on a raft in a mountain lake, or even lying in a king-sized bed in a luxury hotel - whatever you find the most calm and restful to think about. Breathe in and out, slowly and rhythmically. As thoughts enter your mind, let them drift back out - focus entirely on your "happy place as you breathe.

Unlike the use of prescription medication and herbal therapies, there are no potential side effects to meditation, and it doesn't cost anything. No spe! cial equ ipment is required, and you can meditate no matter what your physical limitations. It does take some commitment and patience, but after a few sessions, you'll find that meditation is a wonderful method for relieving stress - and you can do it anywhere!

Yoga and Health

Posted: 27 Dec 2011 09:00 AM PST

Article by Yoga Jnana

Yoga is more an education and a way of life which heals itself. This is because it includes values, motives and attitudes, it encompasses routines, diet, good habits and also exercise and relaxation. Yoga looks at the whole organism and in this way is called 'non-specific'. It is important to understand this if you want to make progress in Yoga or derive its real benefits. It is not concerned with the symptoms but with the entire personality.

A symptom is just a manifestation of all these levels. There are many causes of a headache. Aspirin only acts locally. What about the root problem? Discomfort or pain is a great educator. In our modern culture, we try to avoid pain and therefore Yoga says we do not learn. This keeps us in our old habits and yet pain is the body's signal for us to make a change in our lifestyle.

Modern materialism looks for the cause of disease externally in a disease, a virus, a germ or an infection. Yoga believes in external and internal disharmony as a cause of disease.

This is known as Prajna Aparadha - the law of balance of mind as the cause of disease. Over-emotionality brings about more severe symptoms. The more the mind is balanced, the less severe the symptoms. In this way, integration of body and mind will cause less aggravated symptoms and less severe pain.

If we allow our mind to dwell on the injury or illness, this will both exaggerate and prolong the symptoms. Pain and discomfort often has no relation with the severity of the disease. Pain is very, very subjective. People with bad health sometimes adjust and carry on whereas others with mild symptoms complain of great pain. The mind plays so great a part.

Yoga therapy helps with this. The body works under its own logic. In the western culture, we strive to analyse every detail to eradicate disease but the body works under a subtler logic. This we could call the wisdom of the body. It As long as we do not make things worse this is where we can make a start. If you interfere you make ! difficul ties for yourself.

How does this work? If you try to follow effects through the body, nature will close up and you will learn nothing. The mind cannot follow. It is too ineffective. In the Indian tradition, it is a long term adjustment. Remember that excess in anything can cause illness.

Too much Tamas will cause cold and thickening and also dull reflexes. It is only removed by the influx of Rajas. This, in excess, manifests as heat, agitation, hunger and anxiety. Even too much Sattva leads to nervousness.

The Yoga way is one of awareness and observation over a long period of time.
