Kundalini Yoga is a physical and meditative discipline that seeks to awaken us as humans to our full physical, mental and spiritual potential. Kundalini energy, often depicted as the serpent coiled at the base of the spine, can be accessed and activated by this very effective science called Kundalini Yoga. Yoga sets, called Kriyas, open the Chakras (the body energy centers) bringing about many wonderful benefits such as greater health and vitality, improved circulation and memory, mood stabilization, spinal flexibility, regulation of digestion and elimination, creating a sense of well being and spiritual connectedness. Kundalini Yoga blends physical postures called Asanas, rhythmic breathing, the chanting of Mantras, Relaxation, and Meditation.

Yoga

Article by Victor Epand

Books have been considered as one of the best sources of knowledge in every possible field. Books can be a man's best friend, when there are no mentors or teachers showing the right path. There are different types of books available in the market on topics like cookery, fashion, general knowledge and even yoga. Yoga, a scientifically proven method for controlling the heart, mind, and body, has become very popular. It is like a practical science, which not only treats various ailments in the human body, but also prepares it for leading a healthy life. Since it is difficult to have a trained yoga teacher's supervision all the time, yoga books can be of great help due to their value and content.

Whether you do the simple pranayam practice or raja and hath yoga, authors of yoga books try to provide as much practical and relevant information as possible. Yoga being a practical science, it requires a lot of research before the constituents are compiled into a book. One feature that is very essential in any yoga book is relevance. The author's ability for conveying the essence of yoga in the book is also one of the main pre-requisites.

Aasans, different body postures having different impact on general health, are the most important part of yoga. Every book must cover this part and this is the reason why you will find a lot of diagrams, illustrations and pictures along with simple interpretations. Pranayam, distinct breathing exercises are also essential in yoga. Also, make sure that the author of the yoga book has put the impact and significance of respiratory exercises in detail.

You must be aware of the fact that yoga is an ancient medical practical science and this is why the important chronicles were written in the Sanskrit language. This is a complicated and tough language to understand and in today's yoga books you will find few concepts and theories mentioned in Sanskrit. A good yoga book author will elaborate every concept in detail, so that the readers benefit from it. You can! determi ne the success of a book on the basis of communicability of the content. Even the practicability of the theories is very important.

Yoga books basically consist of content that an interested person would like to know. From different body postures to ways of treating particular ailments, yoga books can teach you a lot. They also describe how a particular posture can help you solve a problem and tone up your body. Yoga has been considered an effective method for achieving nirvana too. It is like a cord between cosmic consciousness and individuals.

Meditations: Defining the Purpose of Your Meditation Session

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 04:00 AM PST

Article by Chris Le Roy

The concept of meditating for many people is that of hippies sitting out in the bush, high on weed, all chanting together or of Buddhist Monks in the high mountains of Tibet chanting their sacred text. Meditation can be all of that and more. Meditation is for everyone, not just a select group. When choosing to meditate, you must clearly define the purpose of the meditation session. Meditation in the western world is most commonly related to stress relief and to help ease the strains of everyday life but it does not have to be.

What is meditation?

Most people miss understand the purpose of meditation and what you can achieve with it. The purpose of meditation is to remove the demands the world places on your mind. It is about clearing your mind so that you can prepare for the next on-slaught the world decides to throw at you.

If you are stressed then meditation will help you to clear your mind of the stress so that you can better focus on the issues that are causing the stress. The cool part is that during a meditation session you can teach yourself or direct yourself to do anything you want.

In a book I have become a great believer in, Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, the writer in his third secret of what millionaires know to become obscenely rich and successful, he talks about Autosuggestion. Autosuggestion is about programming your mind to become successful and achieve what you want.

Meditation is a great tool in helping you to achieve this objective. In fact meditation is the best way to help reprogram your mind to achieve anything. Buddhist monks for millenniums have been using meditation to help in their path to enlightenment and in becoming a better person. During their meditations they reflect on where they are in their life and based on the sacred texts provided by Lord Buddha they use these during their meditations to reflect on what they have done and use the teachings to become a better person and achieve enlightenment. They use the sacred texts to ! help the ir reflections in changing who they are to what they want to be.

This leads me to an important statement, do not meditate for the sake of it, have a clear purpose for your meditation session.

If you are stressed then your meditation session should be focused on helping you to overcome the stress and get back to a point of calm. Once you have got to the point of calm then your next step is to meditate on the issue that is causing you the stress. For example, if someone in your office is causing you stress through bullying or being rude to you then you should be using your meditation sessions to retrain your mind on how to deal with these bullies.

The retraining meditation session could be achieved through using lessons or repeating text from people who are experts in this area and then reflecting on the lessons during the meditation session. Alternatively, you can reflect on the actual situation where you had a run in with the person who is causing you issues and then during your meditation reconstruct the situation and work out ways you could have made the situation better. Essentially you can use the meditation session to role play and work out a strategy to ensure you maintain control over the situation the next time someone is causing your pain and suffering.

Using meditation in this way will help you in dealing with situations more effectively. The reason we do the reflections during meditation is because that is when our mind is without clutter or impacted by the stresses of day-to-day life. Before doing the reflection you should always deal with the stress before beginning the reflection or you will not achieve your outcomes.

Look, what I wanted for you to get out of this article was that, before you start your meditation, you should always have a clear outcome that you want to achieve with the meditation. If you do not meditate with a purpose, then your meditation will not be effective.

The Master Says "This Is The Fate For Those Who Do Not Meditate"

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 03:00 AM PST

Article by Gary Zalben

Some questions were presented about meditation and these are the answers from the teachings of a great spiritual master from India. Why is it so important for me to meditate? I am a very hyper person and I don't have the patience to sit and meditate and besides, I do not have the time; I barely have enough time for my daily routine. What would I get out of it anyway?

The master says, "When you pull the ear, the head is pulled with it. Pull God into your life through meditation and then you will automatically pull in ever new blessings, wisdom and prosperity. That is the reason people should seek God first and possessions second for he is most likely to lose God. Your mind is comparable to a piece of blotting paper; as it is saturated with grimy mundane desires it becomes fully drenched and is unable too grasp the uncorrupted Divine Essence.

As I mentioned before I have no extra time to meditate. There are some who are the so-called extremely busy who will not bring themselves to take even a few minutes out of the twenty-four day to meditate. God looks at those who lose sleep over Him as heroes. By being too busy even until death in a childish pursuit of perishable riches to satisfy unproductive cravings or desires, continually collecting stocks and bonds will not get you through the pearly gateways of the afterlife. Unfortunately there are very few people who will live a disciplined life and without interruption meditate and harvest the everlasting rewards of God-contact in the short season of life. Only by spiritual labor of scientific yoga meditation not by blind beliefs or proxy nor an undeserved heavenly visitation nor by hoping to be in His omnipresence by the merit of death can the Lord of the harvest be attained.

My question is, "why meditate when I pray every day to be forgiven for my sins and bad karma?" The selfish fear of consequences along with shallow prayer will not bring God randomly to counteract the just and truthful workings of the laws of cause and effect. Man! would c ontinue in error if permitted to do so without the consequences. God cannot be moved by bartered deals of good behavior for past misconducts or sporadic emotions of praise. Only by divine love and by devoted sincerity can any sin and its consequences be forgiven. What about people going to confession aren't they saved? From the results of their transgressions, some credulous offenders want to be free of their suffering and consider it sufficient to seek confession from an everyday priest and receive divine amnesty by confessing their sins from their evil deeds. There is mental consolation that confession confers on them, but the operation of the karmic laws are too subtle for them to be seen and they deem themselves to be forgiven. Only God and His highly advanced masters or saints can forgive others and free men from suffering the consequences of their wrongdoing. Those who learn the advanced meditation technique of Kriya Yoga can burn off their bad karma. One hour of Kriya Yoga is equivalent to twenty four hours of prayer.

Another question came up, "I meditate every morning and night but I see nothing, hear nothing and feel nothing; what should I do?" Desires constantly agitate the meditator and wisdom can only be perceived when one stops moving. If you lightly touch the spring of a good watch, it stops. And when the movement of the watch is shaken, it will start running again. Likewise, as the bodily functions are motionless by calming the restless movements of the mental processes, intuition comes the moment you are still to guide you. That is why some people quit meditating; they cannot go deep enough to gain any results therefore they lose interest. Each time we meditate the master says, when we see the light in meditation, beneficial changes are taking place in our brain cells. Even if we do not see that light when we meditate, eventually we will. During meditation you must break the connection between the body and the mind. As long as you are conscious of your body you cannot go deep into m! editatio n. You have to have complete forgetfulness of your body and that means a "state of absolute immovability." As long as you move even once, like to scratch yourself, you have broken that magnetic field and you have to start over again at that point to gain depth in meditation.

Some have what is called the yo-yo syndrome. This alternating condition is when two tendencies over power each other then alternately like two lovers who sometimes become angry affect each other alternately with deep enthusiasm for meditation and then sudden dryness and indifference. Then in one moment they get very interested and drop everything else.

I just recently started meditating but it seems that whenever I meditate I am disturbed by someone or some thing. Is that normal? There are some devotees who find that when meditating for just a short time they are tempted by their bad habits of earthly pleasures or hounded by spiritual tests or poverty, diseases and afflictions of the body; they stop meditating for not forming deep rooted habits of meditation. Whenever there is unhappiness or misfortune, think of God as your highest resource, the same way the needle of a compass always points north, it does not matter which direction the compass is turned so must your thoughts be on God no matter what circumstances exist from minute to minute. Countless fools blindly go through the pathway of uninstructed impulses only to find themselves on the road of ignorant worldly actions. It is simple to perform worldly or evil actions as it takes no effort to roll down a hill. Every repeated evil or ignorant action guides one further down the pathway of evil or worldly ways.

Someone said, "if I could only witness a miracle, even a small one, I would definitely be motivated to be more spiritual. You should know that miracles are desired and held in esteem by earthly mundane mortals who have feelings of inadequacy and who try to challenge the Lord by proving Himself. But divine souls do not doubt him nor test His attention and l! ove. If you want to know about miracles and motivate yourself read the chapter "The Law of Miracles" in the book "Autobiography of a Yogi" by Paramahansa Yogananda, a spiritual classic, which explains this in detail.

The question was asked. "I read spiritual books very often, what about that?" The answer is "If you don't meditate but read, you have a huge, interesting, marvelous and philosophical knowledge stuffed with high metaphysics. It just won't do you any good; it's like having a nice book about food and the best menu in the world and you starve to death."

How is it possible to get a real response from God? Infinite and formless, God is spirit and will not usually talk in words but manifests His awareness as divine perceptions through comprehensible vibratory sounds and comprehended only by devotees with heightened intuition in deep meditation.

One's most important engagement is with God in meditation for it is impossible to keep any other engagement in one's life without borrowing energy, muscular power and mental activity from God who is the giver of all these things. True meditation is absorption in God and it has absolutely nothing in common with the unscientific techniques of breathing taught by a host of ill-advised zealots. Once tasted the happiness of God-communion in meditation is more enticing than all mundane temptations.

Would someone eat rotten cheese? Would you prefer unhappiness to paradise? No. Because of delusion man yields to temptation thinking it will bring happiness. It is hard to differentiate counterfeit coins which have no value from the genuine article; it is the same way to seek pleasure from attractive but worthless vices. Real happiness takes discrimination to know the difference.

What is the fate of those who do not meditate? Those who 'save their lives,' keeping themselves identified with the demands and comfort of the body, and who are reluctant to make the required spiritual labor in the struggle to sit and meditate, will discover eventually he ! will 'sa crifice his life,' of transitory happiness that he sought after to defend and protect. At the end of his life the material man finds he is without God-realization as well as without riches by his worldly life.

He who spends his time with Guru given techniques of meditation will without difficulty reach the pinnacle of spiritual freedom." What freedom do I have? You have none unless you go into your soul. Free will without wisdom is zero free will. Within your soul you have every free will possible. In fact, the moment there is a burst of soul consciousness, at that moment you have free will because the masters say the only time you are truly alive is when you commune with God otherwise all the masses of unenlightened people are just humanoids, pre-programmed by the sub-conscious mind and manipulated by all the computers of previous incarnations and past memories which automatically control their lives and that's a fact believe it or not.

The masters say this is the penalty for those who refuse to allow their lives to be guided by divine laws. On the stage of life most people behave like puppet actors who are manipulated by prenatal instincts, environment, and karmic destinies from former lives. They do not know what role to play to be successful in life. There is a plan for your life. But lives which are governed solely by the laws of cosmic causation or the karmic laws are the hidden players in the game of life. You lose your independence and you cannot say yes or no when herded to the right path or evil ways. The key is listening to your conscience. Your conscience is God's cosmic intelligence vibrating through you. Each time you interfere with your conscience youare back into ego consciousness, ignorance and duality. You have human intelligence which endlessly lies to you then you have divine intelligence and your conscience. There are two kinds of people in the world, those who meditate and seek God and those who don't.

Meditation
by kahala

Article by Laurie Desjardins

"Yoga" and "meditation" seem to have become trendy words recently, and even trendier practices. But for all their modern applications, both yoga and meditation have been around for a long, long time.

For more than five thousand years, meditation has been a part of human life. Though it has its roots in Hinduism, most religions throughout the globe practice one form of meditation or another.

Meditation in Buddhism

Siddhartha Gautama, better known as Gautama Buddha, was the founder of Buddhism thousands of years ago. Originally a pampered prince, he fled the palace and sought a life of spiritual enlightenment rather than material wealth. After meditating beneath a sacred fig tree for 49 days, Siddhartha attained enlightenment, which allowed him great insight into the cause of human suffering, as well as the process needed to eliminate it.

Since the Buddha's revelation beneath the sacred fig tree, meditation has been a centerpiece of Buddhism. The meditation techniques they pursue are a part of their goal of reaching Enlightenment and Nirvana, and develop four key areas: mindfulness, insight, concentration and tranquility. These same techniques, however, are often used by non-Buddhists to better their mental and physical health, or to reach other spiritual goals.

Meditation in Hinduism

Meditation actually started as a part of Vedic Hinduism, which is the oldest religion to have meditation as part of it for spiritual and mental enlightenment. Indian scriptures from 5,000 years ago actually describe meditation.

Of the six schools of Hindu philosophy, yoga is the one that focuses on meditation. However, Hinduism has a variety of meditation techniques, each with different focuses for the subject. The ultimate goal for all Hindu meditation is to attain a calm state of mind.

Meditation in Christianity

Though you may not hear about it as much, there are some Christian traditions that can be classified as meditation. Early Chris! tian mon ks practiced reading the Bible slowly and carefully consider the meanings of each verse, a practice called "lectio divina." It's widely regarded as the first instance of meditation in Christianity. Prayer is also considered a form of meditation.

Enhance your meditation with meditation tools

Five thousand years ago, it was probably a lot easier to clear the mind and focus without cell phones ringing and emails beeping. With the stress and constant state of movement that modern life forces upon us, it can be difficult to completely focus on prayers or on mantra meditation.

In this case, meditation tools can make it easier to focus on meditation and quiet the constant chatter in your mind. Find a quiet place where you can have just 5 or 10 minutes by yourself, without a computer turned on or your cell phone ringing. Once you've gotten to your place, use a meditation tool like the Zen Stick to attain a meditative state quickly and easily. The benefit of entering a meditative state quickly with the Zen Stick is that you need only spend about 5 minutes a day meditating, as opposed to 10 or 20 minutes with regular meditation.

Make an ancient ritual part of your modern life

For centuries, meditation has been an integral part of many religions. Break out of the rut of your daily grind. Let meditation help you better your life mentally, physically, and spiritually.

Weight loss with Yoga?

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 12:00 AM PST

Article by Ruben Alvarez

The benefits of yoga exercises for health improvement are widely known, and this is the main reason why so many westerners start to practice it. To begin with the basics, lots of people take up yoga out of the sheer desire to grow their spiritual side and get distracted from the very material grip of our reality. However, the preponderance of trainees who seek physical alleviation cannot be ignored; a fine example is the ability to sleep all night long. How can yoga exercises help to treat insomnia? The very essence of yoga is relaxation, if you come to develop mind control and relax, the ability to fall asleep becomes a skill.

Breath control, muscular relaxation, neck stretches and shoulder movements are specific to the basic yoga exercises recommended for proper night rest. The health benefits of yoga are widely advertised and they usually represent the main attraction and trigger that makes people take up yoga classes in the first place. Some think they'll get slimmer, others that they'll grow muscular mass, and there are even some people who expect to increase their sexual performance by the practice of yoga exercises.

Nevertheless, this kind of perception of yoga exercises is very far from the origins of this art of body and spirit harmonious growth. Yoga requires inner as well as outer training although the latter is fully reflected and influenced by the former Thus, according to the original meaning of yoga exercises, the trainee that gets to discover the rich beauty of the inside will be free and at peace. Yoga exercises therefore represent the path to something nobler than the immediate weight loss: spiritual liberation in its purest form.

Therefore, the yoga exercises we practice in most of the sessions make an inferior level of the real yoga art. This doesn't mean that all yoga practices follow this down-to-earth, immediately functional trend, but rather that it is more accessible for the common man to find a purpose and a meaning in this so-called art before getting ! to reach superior states of self-awareness. Therefore, the necessity of a good trainer as well as a clear objective in the practice of the yoga exercises allow people to stay on the right track and prevent disillusionment as well as accidents.

Mindfulness Meditation Handbook Buddhist Vipassana

Posted: 14 Dec 2011 11:00 PM PST

Article by Jeff Behar, MS, MBA

In mantra and breath meditation, you focus on a word or your breath and try to empty your mind of everything else. This mental clearing is what most people mean when they refer to meditation. But there's another kind of meditation, a practice Buddhists call vipassana or sometimes called mindfulness, or insight meditation.

Mindfulness-based meditation is actually based on Buddhist Vipassana meditation. It was developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 1979 as a method for people to cope with chronic pain. Kabat-Zinn's Mindfulness meditation involves being "mindful" or aware of the continuously passing parade of sensations and feelings, images, thoughts, sounds, smells, and so forth of your immediate surroundings without becoming involved in thinking about them. Mindfulness meditation involves simply experiencing whatever thoughts goes through the mind, without reacting to them. By training your mind to observe, without reacting or thinking your mind becomes clear, and calm.Mindfulness meditation could be said to be opposite of concentrative meditation, in that while concentrative meditation involves zooming in and focusing on an object, sound or thought, when performing mindfulness meditation instead of narrowing your sight to a selected field you will be aware of the entire field. The intent of mindfulness meditation, besides clearing and calming the mind, is to (1) enable you to stop and appreciate life for all it has to offer and (2) to develop a skill that enables you to respond less impulsively and more effectively.

Types of Mindfulness Meditation

There are two kinds of mindful meditation - formal and informal. Yoga and Tai chi are two good examples of the formal type. In a yoga class, and during tai chi, participants focus intently on their breathing and the postures, moving slowly from one position to the next, exquisitely aware of their feelings during the process. Practitioners are taught to concentrate on their breathing and i! ts passa ge through the body as they dismiss any distracting thoughts.

Informal mindfulness meditation involves incorporating mindful approaches to moments of everyday life. A person takes a simple situation and merely observes it without promoting thoughts in a particular direction.

How to Perform Mindfulness MeditationThe practice of mindfulness meditation requires the person to be fully conscious of his or her surroundings while simply observing thoughts without making judgments about them and then moving on. The goal of mindfulness meditation is not to go into a trance, but rather to remain fully mindful and observe all of the surroundings but without acting on them. The key is to remain peacefully conscious without allowing your mind to wander or react to the thoughts. The easiest way to begin to train the mind for this type of meditation is to concentrate on your breathing and posture. After focusing intently on these things, you then expand your concentration to the thoughts. Do not try to repress or encourage these thoughts, just serve the thoughts and then move to the next. You can practice formal mindfulness meditation, which will also include a physical approach (concentrating on posture as well) or an informal approach where you just become mindful to moments of everyday life., simply observing without promoting thoughts in any particular direction (rememeber the wide angle lens approach). Though it sounds simple, mindfulness takes practice, and the longer you practice, the easier the process becomes. Benefits of Mindfulness MeditationsPeople who regularly practice mindfulness meditation tend to develop a more positive relationship with their bodies. They change their habits to improve their health and well-being. Benefits of Meditation

Studies also indicate that meditation can produce experience-based structural alterations in the brain, that may slow down the aging-related atrophy of certain areas of the brain. An imaging study led by Massachusetts General Hospita! l (MGH) researchers showed that particular areas of the cerebral cortex, the outer layer of the brain, were thicker in participants who were experienced practitioners of a type of meditation commonly practiced in the U.S. and other Western countries. The article appeared in the Nov. 15, 2008 issue of NeuroReport.

Research has shown that Meditation can contribute to an individual's psychological and physiological well-being. This is accomplished as Meditation brings the brainwave pattern into an alpha state, which is a level of consciousness that promotes the healing state.Meditation is widely recommended as a healthy way to manage stress, and for good reason. It provides many health-enhancing benefits, like reducing symptoms of stress and anxiety, relieving chronic conditions such as chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, ulcers, irritable bowel disorders, hypertension, and insomnia; relieving physical complaints like headaches, PMS, joint pain, and even enhancing immunity to illness.Meditation has also shown to provide the following psychological benefits: * Increased brain wave coherence. * Greater creativity, improved moral reasoning, and higher IQ. * Improved learning ability and memory * Increased focus * Increased self-actualization * Increased feelings of vitality and rejuvenation * Increased happiness * Increased emotional stability * Increased self-confidence * Increased connections with others * Decreased anxiety * Decreased depression * Decreased irritability and moodiness

Posted: 14 Dec 2011 07:00 PM PST

Article by Dr. Rose Windale

Meditation has a wide range of definition and it comes in different forms and packages. There are hundreds of meditation techniques developed over the ages each one designed for a certain purpose or function. There are meditation techniques specially designed for men or merely for women alone. There are those appropriate only for the elderly. Some meditation techniques have been devised for relaxation and to reduce stress while there are meditation modalities for ameliorating a health condition. As there are countless options for meditation techniques, choosing the the most suitable one can be crucial to ensure that the optimum benefits are obtained out of meditation.

Some meditations are guided thus done under the attendance of a guide or teacher while some people opt to do meditation on their own. As some people are at a loss in finding the ideal meditation technique for themselves, it may be sensible to initially do some research. Books or the Internet can facilitate in this endeavor. When resorting to the internet, specialized websites can be helpful in giving free information on meditation techniques. Such websites offer guidelines on how to make meditation effectual by providing step by step instructions on various meditation techniques. As the process of finding a suitable technique can be "hit and miss", it is advisable to try several meditation methods first until a method in which the individual is most comfortable with is determined.

Only an individual can discern which technique delivers the best results from all the methods experimented on. The results of meditation techniques are highly subjective and personal. It differs from person to person. The best judge or assessor whether a technique is effective is the meditator himself. Meditation techniques are considered successful once the individual feels more lively and less stressed upon doing the method over time. Meditation can actually be a healing process and an undamaging one at that. Meditation techniques, when pra! cticed o ver time can offer physical benefits and can have positive influence on the well-being as well.

One can actually achieve healing through meditation techniques sans the adverse effects of medical procedures or pharmaceutical drugs. Meditation by far has been proven to be of no detriment. The only question is whether the meditation techniques are more or less effective. There are meditations designed for beginners, ones that are simple and easy while other techniques are combined with breathing exercises and additional implements. Meditation techniques are distinct in their own ways, each having particular results intended for the diverse needs of individuals. Once a person takes on the path of a meditation technique, it's appropriateness for the individual may be uncertain, so it is sensible to keep looking until an ideal technique is ascertained.

A meditation technique also works as a process and is a regimen that must be habitually employed to deliver results. Thus, it also takes discipline and commitment when trying a technique. Meditation techniques gradually bring about results as they are practiced over time. For starters, one can consider passive or active meditation techniques such as brainwave meditation or a guided free meditation technique. Candle meditation techniques are some of the basic ones so feel free, relax and be positive when embarking on meditation until the mark is hit and the perfect technique has been realized.

Article by Frank Rodriguez

Meditation is the process by which you can go beyond the conventional mind to a deeper and tranquil state and self awareness. Meditation inculcates the art of reigning in your mind and shifts it from multiple distractions to a point of singular focus. Meditation is one of the paths to be one with God and attain the ultimate spirituality with enlightenment. Buddhism highly specializes in meditation techniques. Buddhist meditation helps to attain ultimate eternal peace that each of us looks for in life and beyond. Various meditation techniques, such as mindfulness meditation are recommended for practice by several Buddhist texts. For thousand years these meditation techniques got refined and expanded to reach perfection. Concentration, mindfulness and tranquility are developed with meditation.

Buddhist meditation is followed by both Buddhists and non-Buddhists. According to Buddhism philosophy, meditation is the road to attain enlightenment and nirvana.

Non- Buddhists follow the meditation techniques for well being, healthy life and non religious purposes. For various aberrations of human mind, even medical science has adopted to these meditation techniques.

These meditation protocols have been adopted all over the world for well being, health and spiritual reasons. These techniques are free from authoritative rein and due to this they are widely accepted.

According to thervada order there are ninety meditation techniques to develop concentration. Similraly Tibetan order has different methods which increases vionary approach of the mind.

As per Pali Canon School of Buddhism, the eight fold path preached by Buddha leads to the world of meditation which in turn develops the correct view, focus and concentration.

Buddhism has various inferences knows as suttas. One of the famous sutta is Sattipathana sutta. According to this sutta, Buddha has laid out four basic foundations in order to attain mindfulness. The first one is 'body' also known as 'kaya'. Kaya consists o! f breath ing, clear comprehending, postures, repulsiveness of body, reflections on material elements; contemplations regarding to the cemetery. The second one is 'feelings' also known as 'vedana'. The third one is 'mind' known as 'citta'. The fourth one is 'mental contents' known as 'dhamma'. Dhamma is further divided into aggregates, hindrances,sense-bases, factors of enlightenment and the noble truths.

Buddha doctrine states that the two qualities of the mind, serenity and insight are attained through meditation. They are known as the 'swift messengers of nibbana'.

There are forty methods of meditation that Buddha has preached. These methods of meditation develop concentration and consciousness. Buddha also advised to choose the method of meditation as per the requirement of the individual needs and individual mental frame. Guidance is necessary to learn meditation from a knowledgeable person.

Buddhist meditation methods have also included the best practices from other orders like Zongmi typology. Zongmi typology has been framed by the Chinese and others. As per them, all meditation methods look the same externally, but, they differ in motive and purpose internally. The best known technique, mindfulness meditation is a widely practiced type of meditation. The five types of meditative techniques are Ordinary, Outside Way, Small Vehicle, Great Vehicle and Supreme Vehicle.

Kamalashila is the famous teacher of the western Buddhist order. According to him, the five fundamental techniques of meditation are contemplation of impermanence, metta bhavana including all four Brahma-viharas, mindfulness of breathing, six element practice and contemplation of conditionality.

Infertility Yoga - How it Can Help You Conceive

Posted: 14 Dec 2011 05:00 PM PST

Article by V. Volk

Infertility Yoga can bring a lot of hope to your situation if you are struggling with infertility problems. This form of Yoga has its focus in strengthening the reproductive system by relaxing the mind and body. Normally practiced to enhance health and well-being, the ancient Indian tradition of Yoga is very effective in dealing with problems concerning sexuality and infertility.

Benefits of Infertility Yoga

Yoga involves the mind and body, and requires active participation of both. It brings balance to the body and relaxation to the mind. Yoga is beneficial in such cases where there is a problem with hormone imbalances or blocked fallopian tubes. Yoga helps women to prepare their minds and bodies for conception, pregnancy, and childbirth, and it's great for stress reduction and relaxation.

Infertility yoga consists of asanas which are very effective for both men and women. It's a great idea to practice these exercises with your partner. Strengthening the pelvis and hips is the focus of most asanas as these areas are where much of the tension from emotions and mental and physical stress is concentrated. These asanas help to enhance the circulation of blood circulation and improve hormone balance.

Tips for Couples

A lot of couples are worried that they won't be able to get the postures right, so they refrain from trying Yoga. You don't have to worry about being as perfect as your Yoga instructor, though. Infertility Yoga is quite simple and the postures are very gentle on your body. You don't have to worry about straining, and your body will become more flexible as you continue to practice the exercises over time.

When it comes to Yoga, breathing and posture compliment each other. These two factors help you to relax and increase the circulation of blood in your body. You should breathe deeply and slowly while practicing Yoga, and try to maintain the same rhythm throughout your session. Your stomach should expand as you inhale, and do the opposite when you releas! e. Obser ve your body mentally as your breathing pattern normalizes. This will help you to further relax particular areas where you have more tension. And so, learning postures for your reproductive organs can make it easier for you to conceive.

Hopefully, you have learned something new about yoga in this article as yoga is a great way to get in shape, get a stronger body, lose weight and get your mind and body in balance. Check out http://www.TopYogaTips.com to find more exclusive yoga tips and yoga related products!

The Top Obstacles You May Face When Meditating

Posted: 14 Dec 2011 04:00 PM PST

Article by Sonia Gallagher

The Top Obstacles You May Face When Meditating (published)

We all know that meditating has many wonderful benefits for the mind, body and spirit. Indeed, that is why you have embarked on this healthy endeavor. Nevertheless, meditating is a process that takes a great deal of work and time to master. In this, like any endeavor, there are obstacles and challenges that will have to be faced and overcome in order to attain the benefits we seek from meditating.

In today's society of instant gratification, one of the more common obstacles we face is motivation, or rather a lack of it. What do you do when you don't want to meditate? The fact of the matter is that the less you are involved in meditating, the less you will meditate. However the opposite is true too. The more you meditate, the more you will meditate. While that sounds redundant, it is nevertheless a general fact. By building up the habit of meditating, it eventually becomes a habit that becomes harder to break.

One good way of alleviating the lack of motivation problem is shorten the time you spend meditating. Instead of trying to meditate for an hour (which is long), try 30 minutes or less. The idea is to make it easier for you to do. Meditating with proper focus and concentration over a shorter period; is better than meditating improperly over a longer span of time.

Another common challenge of meditating is not being able to sit still long enough to achieve anything. Not being able to sit still is something we usually attribute to kids, but in fact this can be a major challenge for adults as well. If you think about it really, we are always on the go. There are very few times when we are perfectly motionless. We even toss and turn in our sleep. So that act of being still for a prolonged period of time is quite unnatural to most of us. We will find that once we start meditating that our muscles will demand that we move a leg or an arm, or that annoying itch will appear in the middle of our back.

This is not a! n easy o bstacle to overcome or one that can be done necessarily overnight. Again, patience is required to accomplish our goal. First, you are going to have to accept this basic premise. The first few times you start meditating, there are going to wiggles, necessary scratches, and the like. Work on minimizing these movements with each succeeding session; eliminating one thing at a time. Next, take a few moments to get comfortable before you begin meditating, and work out the kinks in your body. The better prepared you are beforehand, will go along way to ensuring your success when you begin meditating.

In fact, this line of thought points directly to another challenge of meditating - being physically uncomfortable. If you are in pain or otherwise feeling discomfort while meditating, this will be a major distraction for you. It is critical, therefore, that you find a sitting position that allows you to successfully direct your attention toward meditating. Use pads or a properly backed chair or whatever it is you need to attain a comfortable position. You should also consider stretching (remember deep contractions exercises?) before you assume your meditating position.

These are just some of the more common challenges we face when we begin meditating. There are of course others. The key thing to remember is that you are not alone in experiencing these obstacles. Most people have had to deal with them. Just remember that meditating takes time to master. So long as you continue to put forth consistent effort, you will overcome these difficulties. Believe me; meditating is well worth the effort that it takes to master.

5 Techniques On How to Be a Positive Thinker

Posted: 14 Dec 2011 04:00 PM PST

Positive Thinking Techniques

How to for Positive Thinking

In the first part of this Mind Power series, I wrote about how to develop deep thinking and gave you 3 effective strategies on how to accomplish that.  You can read that article here – 3 Strategies for Deep Thinking.  Those strategies were designed to increase your mind and thought power and in part two of this series, I will discuss another very important aspect of developing mastery over your mind, and that is by learning how to become a positive thinker and exploit the power of positive thinking.

You may have heard about the power of positive thinking, and indeed it is widely accepted that positive thinking is a huge blessing to your life, but you might have not have been given tangible techniques on how to actually become a positive thinker.  So in this article, I am going to give you practical tips on how to accomplish this, so you too can enjoy the benefits of having a positive mind, full of positive thoughts and feelings.

Benefits of Positive Thinking

Before I jump ahead to the 5 techniques on how to do positive thinking, I just want to briefly summarize for you the advantages of being a positive thinker.  Positive thinking is inspiring, beneficial to your health, energizing and uplifting for both you and others.  In addition, it brings you joy, confidence, strength, charisma and charm.  Around positive people you will always feel that anything can be accomplished, regardless of how difficult the challenge.  Let me give you an example of this below.

Swami Dayananda Saraswati's Lesson on Positive Thinking

During my summer stays at Arsha Vaidya Gurukulam, I was often around Swami Dayananda Saraswati and on one such occasion it was the day before a big fund raiser that the ashram was running.  Everyone was worried.  There was so much to do and the preparations were not going well.  In addition, there was the risk of bad weather, which meant the turnout could be poor.  There were these and other problems swirling around, and in the midst of all this, was Swamiji, calm and cool, and always with a smile.

"If even I start to worry, can you imagine what the repercussions would be?"  Is all he said to me.  I understood.  He was the rock, he was the source of calm, and his positive attitude and demeanor, were the key to holding everything together.  If he abandoned positive thinking at this point, the whole event would just collapse.

His positive attitude kept things going and needless to say the following day's event was indeed a great success.

You are the Swami of your life.  You have to keep your positive thinking and attitude going and then, all else will be infected by this positivity.  Then you too will be able to remain calm, cool and collective in the middle of the storms of life and like Swamiji, see difficult times through with a smile.

5 Keys On How to Ensure Positive Thinking

Technique #1:  Substitute Positive Thoughts for Negative Ones

Negative thinking is not just an obstacle to meditation, it can also be detrimental to your life in general.  This is especially true if you are drowning in negative thinking and it is preventing you fr! om achie ving the life your ought to be living.  Negative thinking includes worrying, self criticizing, fear mongering, etc, etc.  There are many techniques and exercises to rid yourself of such thinking and I have discussed a few very effective ones in the article – Anxiety and Depression | 4 Effective Treatments.

In addition to the techniques I detailed in that article though, I want to give you a new one today, which will not just get rid of negative thinking, but will also make you a positive thinker.  That technique is the use of substitution.

Whenever you catch yourself entertaining negative thoughts, just substitute them with the opposite positive ones.  If you are thinking you are going to fail an exam, think instead you are going to ace it.  If you are thinking that a presentation is going to be a mess, think instead how great it is going to go.  If you catch yourself thinking anything negative about yourself, like you are too fat or sick, substitute for it thinking that you are beautiful and healthy.

In this way start to challenge and change the patterns of negative thinking, and with vigilance and patience you will begin to break these patterns and start to establish new ones.  Patterns of thought that are positive, uplifting and encouraging.

Technique #2: Substitute Positive Feelings for Negative Ones

This is closely related to the substitute method above but it is for feelings.  Try to substitute for any base and negative emotions, lofty and high emotions.  So for hatred and jealousy, substitute love; for anger, substitute forgiveness; for pride, subst! itute hu mility, etc.  In this way try to rid yourself of the negative emotion, and doing so will prevent the storm of negative thinking such emotions unleash.

In time, positive emotions will preside and positive thinking will follow.

Technique #3: Positivity List

If you find you are getting overwhelmed with negative thinking, depression and worry, I suggest making a list of all the positive things you have and the positive things you do.  Then reading this list in the morning and at night.  Also, keep adding to this list and use it to remind yourself of your blessings throughout the day.

You can further enhance this technique by keeping a positivity journal, where you reflect on the positive things from a particular day.  Recall the good aspects of that day and remember all the good feelings you can.  Furthermore, by putting them to ink, you will strengthen their affect.

We are all blessed in so many ways, but often we take these blessings for granted and instead focus on a few problem areas of our lives.  So keep a positivity list and read it often to ensure you remember how much you have to feel good about and be thankful for.

Technique #4: Surround Yourself with Positive Energy and People

Our culture and environment is filled with negativity.  Everywhere you turn you are bombarded with negative news and conflicts.  So and so is fighting with so and so, news is full of murder and rape, TV crime shows, horror movies, etc, etc.

To make matters worse, we are also surrounded by people who are filled with negative energy and all too eager to! share t his negative energy with you, as well as sap you of your positive energy.

So what can your poor mind do?  It is so influenced by all this negativity that it starts to gravitate in that direction too.  So it is sometimes important to change your environment.

See if you can surround yourself with good books, uplifting shows, beautiful nature and positive, happy people.  Such an environment will make a big difference in what you think about and will be instrumental in helping you become a positive thinker.

Technique #5: Use Mantra and Prayer to Defeat Negative Thinking

Along with the substitute method, the use of mantra and prayer to dislodge negative thinking is also very effective.  A lot of times, while you are busy during the day, you don't dwell in negative thinking, but then when you are in bed at night or alone and unoccupied, negative thinking again rears its ugly head and starts to dominate your mind.  Here you can simply switch to mantra repetition and put your mind to God in order to stop the negative pattern.

There are many great mantras for doing this, such as the Gayatri Mantra or the Mahamritunjay Mantra.  You can even use breath awareness, along with So Hum Mantra Mindfulness to occupy the mind in a positive way and drive away the negative thoughts.

This method is very useful for those dealing with negative thinking at night and suffering from insomnia due to excessive worry and anxiety.

By using divine thoughts and feelings of love, coupled with the mantra, you will soon start to see a noticeable change in your mind and demeanor.

Positive Thinking Techniques Summary:

At the highest level, you are looking to still the mind of thoughts and penetrate the veil of duality, but on the journey there, you may be faced with many challenges, some mundane and some profound.  Negative thinking is just such a challenge.  It can discourage you, sap your confidence and energy, make you unhappy and unfortunately, mislead you into believing that the Truth is too hard to attain.  These conditions are not conducive to meditation and the exploration of the Self.

So it is necessary to be a positive thinker not just for happiness, peace, energy, confidence and success, but also for spiritual growth and meditation.  So don't allow negative thoughts to become an additional hinderance to your practice, instead use the techniques above to learn how to become a positive thinker and enjoy the power of positive thinking.

If you have techniques you have successfully used to defeat negative thinking and become a positive thinker, please do share those with us in the comments section below.

Using Yoga To Reduce Excessive Sweating

Posted: 14 Dec 2011 03:00 PM PST

Article by Matthew Johnson

Although sweating is a normal human function, excessive sweating occurs when the body is over-compensating for a certain problem. For this reason, it can be helpful to find ways of rebalancing your body's systems. There is one form of exercise which aims to do just that. Yoga.

Yoga is an ancient discipline which combines breathing and movement. The aim of yoga is to harmonise your body and correct any imbalances. So it's possible that the regular practice of yoga could address the underlying cause of your symptoms - even if you don't know what the cause is.

Although most yoga is a slow and gentle practice, is it still a valid form of exercise and as such, brings about the positive benefits that come from any physical activity. These include a more efficient metabolism, improved overall fitness and the release of endorphins. All of these effects combine to make you feel good - physically, mentally and emotionally. These benefits will continue even after the session and help your body perform better, heal itself and boost your self-esteem.

Like all exercise, yoga is also an effective stress-buster. But when it comes to hyperhidrosis, yoga has an additional advantage. Regular yoga practice is great at inducing inner calm and emotional stability. So for those who sweat when they are anxious or nervous, it can help you feel calmer in those situations. And when you do find yourself in a stressful situation, your reduced anxiety will mean you're better able to handle it.

Although yoga can be a powerful exercise, it isn't normally associated with the frantic and sweaty workout of more aerobic exercises like step, circuits or spinning. For this reason, yoga classes may appeal more to those who want to avoid public situations where they are likely to perspire heavily.

However, there are forms of yoga that are more vigorous and fast-paced. Ashtanga is one of these (and Madonna's exercise of choice). There is also a type of yoga called Bikram yoga (or Hot Yoga) which is performe! d in hea ted rooms - so as to make you sweat more. But this could actually be a good thing for sufferers of excessive sweating. Firstly, everyone will be soaked through, so you needn't feel self-conscious. And secondly, sweating is one way the body tries to expel toxins. So getting hot and sweaty while you work out can speed can help this process. Then your body is under less pressure to 'sweat out' the toxins the rest of the time.

Yoga is far more than a series of random positions. The stretching, twisting, holding and breathing all have specific effects of different parts of your body. You can affect not just your muscles but your organs and immune system, too. So yoga is particularly effective at stimulating the digestive system. This is useful for sufferers of hyperhidrosis that is linked to weight issues, food intolerance or poor diet. Also, there are certain positions that help your body flush out toxins. This is helpful if your excessive sweating is a symptom of toxin-overload.

In short, yoga will improve your overall fitness, detoxify your system, boost your wellbeing and stabilise your anxiety. Since it addresses many of the health issues that lead to excessive sweating, yoga can be an effective route to not only reducing the symptoms, but also treating the cause.

Customized Reverie With A Meditation Clock

Posted: 14 Dec 2011 02:00 PM PST

Article by Dr. Rose Windale

Although generally an age-old spiritual endeavor, meditation has certainly caught up with the times as they are now accompanied by mechanical devices. One may have the notion that the practice of meditation negates anything which is "of this world" as it is basically centered on the ethereal dimension of oneself, but that may no longer be the case. Meditation as a step-by-step process is characterized by regular intervals. When practicing meditation, the mind progressively focuses from a lower level to a higher level. In this endeavor, concentration is gradually intensified. To neophytes of meditation, the enterprise of mastering this skill may require much effort.

Being a discipline of the mind which is the ultimate regulator of the whole being, it may take considerable exertion to eventually be adept in meditation. The regular intervals as an inherent aspect of meditation are moments of respite for the mind until it commences into another level. To amateur meditators who have not yet developed the innate mechanism to signal these intervals, a meditation clock may come in handy. As constantly checking the duration of meditation intervals can be frustrating and would disrupt the mind's centeredness, using a meditation clock to go with a meditation practice can be helpful.

What is a meditation clock capable of doing? A meditation clock can be multifunctional but has been so designed to guide meditation by its progressive chiming. A meditation clock usually features a gradual 10-minute alarm which enables the mind to slowly come out of its reverie. It is generally inadvisable to jar the mind into a state of abrupt awareness, thus a meditation clock usually has low pitches to its chimes. A meditation clock can be quite interesting as it has been devised to instigate a slow and gradual awakening which is capable of improving one's ability to recall dreams as well as to develop logical dreaming.

The spiritual may have gone with the technological as there are online sites wherein a! meditat ion clock can be downloaded. For effective meditation, a meditation clock offers the advantages of beeping at steady intervals between 1 minute to 99 hours and it stops after counting from 1 to 999. Up to 32767 meditation processes can be stored in a meditation clock and it is also capable of beeping once during every interval and can come with big start and stop buttons. A meditation clock can come in different brands, therefore a meditator has several options to choose from to aid for his quest of self-attunement.

Depending on the meditation process, a suitable meditation clock must be utilized and it is preferable if the practicing meditator is comfortable with the meditation clock's functions and features. The paradox of a mechanical device aiding a spiritual endeavor may prove to be revolutionary as it aims to make beginners of meditation achieve their desired personal goals with greater convenience. Even as the technological world is capable of driving an individual out of his wits, so too can the technology of a meditation clock put a person back into himself. The meditation process may be upgraded with a meditation clock, but the core of meditation which is for a person to find himself still transcends the ages.

Michael Stanclift, N.D.: Understanding Meditation: How Attention Changes Our Brains

Posted: 14 Dec 2011 12:33 PM PST

Meditation has become increasingly popular, and at some point we may ask, "Why are we meditating? What does it actually do? What is happening that makes a difference?" This short article can only cover a small portion of the effects seen from meditation, but is meant to highlight an important aspect of what happens. Let us first set the stage.

The brain anatomy we inherit from our parents determines the original landscape upon which our brain's "empire" will be built. We inherit individual tendencies, these are like the weather patterns, and natural resources of an area -- largely predetermined, but can be nurtured or deteriorated by our habits. The landscape-anatomy of our brain determines which skills we perform best, and which habits become automatic, but there's a twist to this story.

Neuroscientists have discovered that where we direct our attention, not the environmental conditions alone, determines which specific areas we develop and redevelop. Our attention changes the anatomy; it is the land developer and construction crew all in one. The developed landscape of our brain determines how it will function. This ability to change the landscape of our brains and ultimately augment how our minds will operate is called neuroplasticity. We are constantly, willingly, changing the structure of our most fascinating organ as we move our attention here and there. At any moment we can be commanding areas to be restructured and modify the direction of our "empire." All mental exercises will have this effect, and the areas they influence depends on the skills we are using. This certainly adds a level of complexity to the whole "nature or nurture" question of how our personalities and talents are shaped.

We've also discovered that once a skill can be done without attention, our brains stop shaping those areas. Our brain figures that part of our "empire" is working just fine and puts its resources elsewhere. Walking is a great example: after we've learned to walk well we can practically ignore that we're doing it, and the complex movements don't change much. We don't walk better, even though we constantly practice. We all trip and roll our ankles from time to time, but unless we have a severe injury our brains stick with what worked in the past.

"So what does neuroplasticity have to do with meditation?" I'm glad you asked!

It is useful to develop our concentration through meditation, focusing and refocusing our attention. Through meditation we learn to engage areas of our brains that are otherwise rarely used in our day to day life. Though each technique will have unique effects, all meditations have the common theme of gradually quieting our minds and allowing us to feel a connection to the present moment.

By using our attention during a mindful meditation, we are training our brain to become more and more connected to the current moment. This has the effect of allowing ourselves to see what's actually happening, without getting caught in our opinion of the situation. In the current moment we disengage from the pull of memories, fantasies and worries and this is likely why many forms of meditation can help alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety. Though mindfulness meditation works on similar brain centers as those seen with anti-depressants, we're not certain if these effects come from the same chemical mechanisms.

So if you are considering sitting for a meditation and wondering "What the hell am I doing this for anyways?" remember that you're changing the structures of your brain. Your improvements to these areas, though laborious, will provide your "empire" with prosperity for years to come.

If you are curious, and really want to know about some subject or the other, one of the places to look is inside of a book. This is true as well about the practice of meditation with the wide availability of meditation books. Meditation is no longer an obscure and ancient practice as it has been developed and documented into easy to read meditation books by established and experienced meditation teachers. A large number of people are becoming aware of meditation and its benefits, while an even greater number are largely still in the exploratory stage. For this group of people, meditation books are an option through which they may learn much about the all round health benefits of practicing meditation, that is before embarking on more advanced searching by visiting a meditation retreat of center. Meditation books are available from the Z Meditation center and through online booksellers at affordable prices.Meditation can be said to be a personal practice through which the individual seeks to find peace and serenity in the mind. This leads to a healthier mind, allowing for a healthier body and a soul at peace with its Creator. Many of the physical and mental ailments that bother people seem to stem directly from a mind which is not at rest. By focusing on the mind then, holistic good health can be achieved. Meditation books take you through the processes that are required, though it should be emphasized that this is just a beginning stage. Meditation books merely open the door to the possibilities available, and some basic meditation methods. To get the full benefits of practicing meditation, one might have to go through a learning process in the hands of an experienced and established meditation teacher.Life and living can be daunting to the inexperienced, and even the experienced will encounter situations and circumstances that appear to be able to overwhelm. If the individual concerned is steeped in the practice of meditation, and has been able to achieve a level of peace and happiness within, c! oping wi th such difficulties will not be so troublesome. The solutions to immediate problems may not arise in a flash, but the peace within will enable the individual the capability to carefully and unhurriedly look for the ideal solution to the issue without getting into a fret. This approach has the effect that such an individual will not be stressed by problems, little or large, resulting from a calm mind. The unstressed mind will then not send dangerous chemicals into the body to begin a process of damage. The benefits accruable from beginning the journey into the practice of meditation by picking up and reading meditation books can be immense.Z Meditation has two basic techniques for practicing meditation: the Deep Deconditioning Inquiry; and Radiant Mantras. These techniques have been honed to a level where thousands of people have benefited and many more are still reaping the benefits of practicing these techniques which are also encapsulated in their meditation books. To get the most benefit from meditation, it is important that the student comes with a sincere belief that practicing meditation can really make a difference in her life. This commitment allows the student to be disciplined and diligent in her study, thus producing well ingrained knowledge which can be applied on a daily basis. All this can start by reading meditation books.

The Spiritual Success at Meditation Retreats

Posted: 14 Dec 2011 11:00 AM PST

Article by Lily Candice

If you desire a sincere change for the better in a life filled with stress and discomfort, meditation retreats are an option for you. Meditation retreats are organized and carried out by meditation centers which are run by established and experienced meditation teachers. These meditation teachers have developed systems and procedures over many years which are employed at meditation retreats where student seekers may learn to disabuse their minds of years of conditioning and wrong notions and achieve a state of bliss, characterized by peace, love and happiness. Meditation is a systematic process which seeks to control activities of the speech, mind and body. The practice of meditation, which can be learnt at meditation retreats, will enable the individual to have overall control of all her senses and will consequently not be buffeted by the day to day exigencies of living. It has been also shown that control of the mind through meditation has tremendous health benefits as those who meditate on a regular basis are less prone to illness and disease. The practice of meditation was born out of ancient religious practices, most especially the Buddhist religion, with most religions the world over having a form of meditation or the other integrated into their practice. However, meditation retreats are mostly non-religious, having no religious affiliation whatsoever. The Z Meditation center offers meditation retreats to sincere student seekers of holistic peace at their meditation center in Dharamsala, a small town in the popular Himalayas of India. At these meditation retreats, students are taken through a course of study which will gradually wean them of the conditionings gathered over the years, which has created a cluttering of their minds, not allowing for proper action and reaction to the daily challenges of life.It is important that any aspiring student of meditation be sincere in her approach and disciplined enough to follow through the systematic process of DeConditioning, the primary tool employe! d by Z M editation at their meditation retreats. Such a focused mindset will allow the student to quickly grasp the principles being taught; and it has been observed that some seekers display remarkable change within only a few days of taking up the course at meditation retreats. By the end of a typical course at good meditation retreats, the student should be well poised to deal effectively with any situation with which he may be faced. The success at meditation retreats does not mean the subsequent absence of problems and other issues. It only means that the individual is much better equipped to deal with just about anything.Meditation retreats are relatively cost efficient, costing merely a fraction of what you might expect to spend at a sea side resort, for example. And while you may achieve some level of peace and relaxation at a sea side resort, this peace is not lasting as you will most probably return to the status quo on your return home. The knowledge and ensuing peaceful state of well-being you will achieve at meditation retreats will last a lifetime, so long as you continue to observe the practice of daily meditation and living by the principles taught at meditation retreats. Everyone's focus will be different as we all come from different backgrounds with different conditionings. The object of meditation retreats is not to produce a following of brainwashed robots, but for each and every individual to be able to face his or her life with a calm clarity of mind.
