I do not have explain further about what is meditation as it already grown popular around the world nowadays. People who practice meditation will notice that there are something unique about meditation. There are a lot of e-books on "how to meditation" and "meditation how to" that can easily be found in the search engines. You will learn step by step how to meditate and be able to meditate on your own.

To some people it may take years to achieve enlightenment through meditation. To be able to do this your chakra or energy gateway must be fully activated in order for you to gain benefits while you meditate. There are two type of meditation know to the world today, it is Silence Meditation (SM) and Creative Meditation (CM) when combined together will brings full result.

When you learn how to meditate you may be introduced to silence meditation. This method involve sitting down, stilling your mind, and focusing on breathing technique while you meditate. Silence meditation is the meditations method that only suitable for certain people who because some people whom are not use to this method may lost their interest while doing this ritual. To avoid this some people may play calming music for meditation to increase meditation transcendental. The relationship between meditation and yoga are closely related. Silence meditation also practiced in Buddhist meditation among Buddhist monks. In developed countries such as the United States meditation class and meditation course can easily be found.

In contrary, creative meditation offers a lot more freedom to their practitioner. Creative meditation is a from of meditation that involves body movement similar to movement in Xi Gong. If you looking for effective enlightenment and improving extra sensory perception (ESP) abilities and more then this is the most suitable method for you. Nobody can explain to you what is enlightenment nor describe how the enlightenment was. The enlightenment ideas that you might find in books are just a theory un! til you have experienced it for yourself.

Extra sensory perception such as psychic powers or psychic abilities are more likely to develop effectively by creative meditation because this method focuses on sensing the spiritual vibration generated by your inner soul.

In creative meditation your energy gateway will be open by experienced master compared to silence meditation, you have to wait years before your energy gateway are fully activated. This will slowing down your enlightenment process. You can test clairvoyance abilities whether it has improved or otherwise the soonest after your energy gateway were activated permanently. You will also notice that creative meditation is indeed the proper method to develop psychic intuition.

It does not matter what religion you follow, you have the opportunity to be connected with god. Spiritual journey usually started when somebody ask themselves what is god and where is god and if your determination are strong enough you will no longer have to ask "god, where are you ?". The truth is all living being are connected with god whether they realize it or not. With creative meditation as a medium you can feel stronger connection to god. God channel His blessing in a form of energy through your soul based to your physical body. You can fully channel the energy according to your intention such as for healing purposes, creative protective energy shield against negative energy or as a weapon to disarm you enemy. There huge benefits of creative meditation for you to explore.

My Personal Journey Into The World of Meditation

Posted: 13 Dec 2011 06:00 AM PST

Article by Dr. Robert Puff, Ph.D.

I began meditating in my late teens after I was exposed to the research of Herbert Benson, who wrote the book The Relaxation Response. It was a wonderful study into how people meditate and the benefits of meditation. It was basic but very helpful. It got me interested in both practicing and studying meditation.

While I found meditation relaxing after doing it a short while, it wasn't always easy to do, and I wasn't always motivated to do it. I meditated often, but not regularly. I did it because I understood the medical benefits. I knew it was good for me, good for my heart. Dr. Benson talks a lot about the medical benefits of meditation.

Over the years, as I pursued my degrees in psychology, I studied different forms of meditation, tried different practices, and really began to enjoy the effects. I meditated periodically. I would sometimes take breaks from it but I'd always come back. I explored different forms, different traditions, and developed my interest and love of meditation.

I think the tipping point was when someone came to me for help and advice. This person, whom I respected, was intensely spiritual, and shared with me the opinion that meditation was one of the foundational tools of personal growth. "If you really want to grow, meditation is really the key both spiritually and psychologically," this client said. So I started to explore meditation from that perspective and found the remark to be true. Because I was passionate about growth, I decided to truly dive into meditation. Although I had spent decades academically, professionally, and in my private endeavors studying personal development, I had not deeply studied the spiritual, meditative methods of growth.

At that point in my life, I came to realize that studying psychology had taken me a long way in my own personal development, but that it could only take me so far. Meditation could take me to my goal of being a happy, whole person on a consistent basis. So I had actually learned from someone I w! as couns eling that meditation was the main way to grow in all aspects of my life.

Although I had all these degrees and training which helped me develop excellent skills in dealing with my stresses, anxieties, and emotional issues, I still hadn't achieved the goal of reaching my full potential as a whole, healthy human being. I needed to seriously apply meditation to actually reach this goal in my life. In the East, they call it "enlightenment"; in the West, some writers call it "awakening," and psychologists refer to it as "self-actualization."

What consistent, regular meditation started to do for me was help me get in touch - on a consistent, regular basis - with who I am, why I'm here, and my oneness with everything around me. Psychology and the medical world had taught me good tools for functional living, but hadn't taught me how to live. Meditation has taught me how to live fully, how to live in the present, and how to savor every moment.

There was one final lesson I needed to learn. Although I had become quite good at meditating and was very relaxed and peaceful on the meditative mat, when I left the mat my mind continued to chatter. I learned I didn't have to leave that meditative state when I left the mat. I could go through my day, continuing in my meditative state of being at peace, being at one. While the mind chatter is still there, I've learned how to acknowledge it, witness it, and not be distracted by it. I've learned how to remain in the now, how to be present with what is.

One of the changes that has come along through my meditating is that I require less sleep. I generally go on three to six hours a day now. Like most people, I used to require six to eight hours of sleep to function. Also, during my meditations sometimes I have very "mystical" experiences where it's incredibly magical and I am one with the universe. I've learned not to attach myself to these experiences; I don't expect them, but sometimes they come and are intense and enjoyable beyond words. I've beco! me one w ith myself and at peace.

If you want to be the most fully functional human being you can be, meditation is the way to achieve this. If growth and spirituality are important to you, meditation is the tool to getting there. We all can experience the joys, wonders, and incredible peace that truly surpasses all understanding, with regular meditation.

Meditations: Creating Your Meditation Strategy

Posted: 13 Dec 2011 02:00 AM PST

Article by Chris Le Roy

Meditating without a plan is like going on a holiday with no idea where you are going or what you are going to do. All that will happen is that you will get lost and will not end up achieving anything. If you do meditate without having a clear strategy in place, you will find over a period of time that your interest in meditating will wane and you will simply stop meditating. However, if you develop a strategy for what you want out of your meditation, then you have a goal and this means that you are more likely to stick with your meditation sessions till you achieve your goal.

There are many reasons why you may want to meditate. The most common reason that I see people in western society want to meditate is to deal with stress and overwork. So, if you were developing a meditation strategy to deal with this issue, your strategy should be something like this -

1. Learn to meditate to bring yourself to a point of calm2. Meditate to overcome the stress3. Meditate to overcome the element that is causing the stress.

What you can see in this basic meditation strategy above is that, meditating to become calm and stress-free is only half the battle. If you are stressed your meditation strategy should include meditating on a way to deal with the root cause of your stress. For example, if a person at work is being abusive to you everyday as well as being rude, your meditation strategy should include meditating on ways of dealing with a person who is rude. Keep in mind that to achieve this objective it may take you many months of meditation before you can overcome this issue.

Meditation when done over a period of time and effectively is a really cool tool as it allows you to develop in your mind away that allows you to cope with any situation that you desire. For example, if a person is being rude to you, you can use reflective meditation to develop strategies on how to deal with a rude person. To achieve this, I would first read a range of different books on how to deal with difficul! t people and you can easily get books like that from Amazon.com or Dymocks (if you are from Australia).

From the material I read in the books, I would then identify a strategy for dealing with this difficult person and then use reflective meditation to actually work through the techniques in the books in your mind, using the reflective and learning technique to deal with them. Essentially what you are trying to do is to use scenario based meditation. The cool part about this type of meditation is that your mind is open and it allows you to try different ways of dealing with various situations and the seeing whether those techniques will help you in those situations.

The other reason we use meditation to learn this type of material is so that it ingrains the material into our mind and remind us or prompts us on how to deal with a difficult person when it occurs rather than simply going into panic mode and then getting defensive and shutting our mind down. Our minds are far more powerful than we consciously realize and the more we train our minds, the more powerful they become.

The bottom line is this, if your only reason to meditate is to simply relax and release stress then you are only addressing half of the issue. To truly achieve a difference in your life, you must meditate to address what is causing the stress. If you are meditating to help address an issue, make sure you develop a meditation plan as I described above so that you have a clear outcome for your meditation session.

Just like in business and life goals, having a long term meditation plan will help ensure that you maintain your focus when you meditate and that you have a reason to be meditating.

Ultimately, meditation is about helping you become a better person and to learn the path to enlightenment.

Buddhist Meditation: Types of Meditation

Posted: 13 Dec 2011 01:00 AM PST

Article by Joe Taloe

There is a variety of meditations that one can do. In the Western culture, the most popular meditation is a type of meditation that is similar to a chant meditation, but simpler. Basically it involves a repetition of a word. This has mislead many people into believing that this is the only way to meditate. Here's a list of the different types of meditations available.

Chant meditation: Traditionally, monks would give thanks to their teachers as well try to gain insight from them through chants, which they would repeat over and over again. Other chants involve invoking a certain kind of feeling (often times love and compassion). You can create your own chant. This kind of meditation is great for changing a deep seated habit within yourself.

TM meditation: This is the most popular form of meditation in the West. Like chant meditation, it involves repetition, except in this case it is just one or two words. I have seen many different spins to this meditation. Some people use two words, others just one. You should do what is most comfortable for you. Experiment.

Sound meditation: You focus on a sound you hear. Many people choose to meditate to music (including me). Interestingly, it does not have to be relaxing music. Occasionally I will find it very easy to meditate to hard rock. Experiment, and see what works and when.

Body meditation: In this meditation, you focus on the sensations you feel. If you're sitting down, you focus on how your butt feels on the chair. If you're lying down, you can study how your body mass is spread across the bed.

Sight meditation: This form of meditation is great for beginners who wish to transition to inner-object meditation. You choose an object to look at and you focus on its shape, color, size. Keep that image in your mind. For example, Buddhists would choose a statue of Buddha to meditate on.

Inner-object meditation: This is when your object of focus is something that naturally occurs within your body, such as your breath or he! artbeat. You study the occurrence as you would with any other meditation (you could say that TM and Chant is inner-object meditation).

Object-less meditation: This meditation is essential for increasing your self-awareness. The name of the meditation stands for what IT IS NOT. In this form of meditation, you pay attention to anything and everything to pops into your mind, and then let it go so another activity can take place.

That covers all the common ones. I have to mention that meditation can take any form. You can meditate on walking, and call it "walking meditation". You can focus on playing your guitar, and call it the "guitar meditation". It's less important as to what your object of meditation is, than the process involved in the meditation. The process across these meditations is always the same.

Brain Imaging Shows Analgesic Effect Of Mindfulness

Posted: 13 Dec 2011 12:00 AM PST

New research published in the Journal of Neuroscience April 6 edition, indicates that meditation has more potent pain-relieving effects on the brain than morphine or other pain-relieving drugs that reduce pain by 25 per cent. This study is the first to show dramatic reduction in both the brain activation related to pain, and the experience of pain itself.

"We found a big effect – about a 40 per cent reduction in pain intensity and a 57 per cent reduction in pain unpleasantness," said lead author of the study, Fadel Zeidan, Ph D and post-doctoral research fellow at Wake Forest Medical Centre.

During the study, 15 healthy volunteers without prior experience of meditation attended four 20-minute classes on a type of meditation technique called focused attention. In this type of mindfulness, practitioners attend to their breath and release distracting emotions and thoughts.

Utilising arterial spin labelling magnetic resonance imaging (ASL MRI), the researchers examined participants' brain activity. ASL MRI captures longer interval brain processes, including meditation, than a regular brain function MRI scan. Scans done before and after meditation training showed activity in the primary somatosensory cortex of the brain significantly dropping from very high to undetectable; this area creates the sensation of intensity and location of a painful stimulus.

The participants had pain induced in their right legs with a device that heated a tiny patch of their skin over 5 minutes to 120° F, a temperature painful to most people. Scans done on participants after meditation instruction showed decreased pain ratings in every participant, with a reduction range of 11 per cent to 93 per cent.

Interestingly, meditation caused increase in activity in the anterior insula, orbito-frontal cortex and the anterior cingulate cortex areas of the brain. Robert Coghill PhD, associate professor of neurobiology and anatomy at Wake Forest Baptist and senior author of the study said, "These areas all shape how the brain builds an experience of pain from nerve signals that are coming in from the body."

He explained that increased activation of these areas by meditation corresponded to improved pain reduction. "One of the reasons that meditation may have been so effective in blocking pain was that it did not work at just one place in the brain, but instead reduced pain at multiple levels of processing."

Speaking about the huge potential of meditation for use in clinical settings, Zeidan and his associates highlighted the briefness of the training needed to cause a dramatic pain-relieving effect. "This study shows that meditation produces real effects in the brain and can provide an effective way for people to substantially reduce their pain without medications," said Zeidan.

Osho Meditation Technique

Posted: 12 Dec 2011 11:00 PM PST

Article by Jane Michael

Osho meditation is a form of meditation meant to lead individuals on a journey to discovering their full true potential. This is a path that is followed alone through the inner self and the self discovery there in or with others depending on the meditator's practice of choice. There are a number of Osho meditation techniques, some quite simple, some a bit more difficult. Each technique of Osho meditation involve different techniques but all are meant to produce similar results.

The first of the Osho meditation practices is Osho Dynamic meditation. In this type of meditation the meditator must stay constantly alert in order to gain the desired results out of it. This type of meditation consists of five individual stages, each lasting a total of either ten or fifteen minutes. The first of these stages involves a ten minute session of chaotic breathing. Breathing should be done through the nose and should be done as fast as possible. The second step of this dynamic meditation also lasts ten minutes and involves complete expression of oneself. The meditator should explode with all the energy gained in the first step through screaming, throwing oneself around, dancing, or jumping. The third stage of Osho dynamic meditation will also last ten minutes and consists of repeating a mantra and jumping up and down with the arms raised, aiming for exhaustion. The fourth stage, which lasts fifteen minutes consists of freezing in place before moving on to the fifth and final stage which involves a celebration. In this fifteen minute stage the meditator should dance and express gratitude for the happiness obtained through the dynamic meditation.

A second form of Osho meditation is Osho Kundalini meditation. Kundalini meditation consists of a total of four stages, each lasting fifteen minutes. Three of the stages in this form of meditation involve music and one does not. In the first stage the meditator should allow the body to shake and move on its own without direction from the meditator. Eyes may b! e either opened or closed during this first step. The second step involves dancing to the music. Dancing can be done in any form and eyes may be kept closed or open. In the third stage and the last stage involving music the meditator is to sit or stand with the eyes closed, witnessing what is happening inside of the meditator. Finally, in the last stage stage the meditator is directed to keep the eyes closed and to lie down and stay still for the entire fifteen minutes. This type of meditation is meant to bring on energy for the meditator.

The final type of Osho meditation that we will discuss is Nataraj meditation. This type of meditation consists of only three stages, the first lasting forty minutes, the second lasting twenty, and the final lasting five. In the first stage the meditator dances unconsciously. In the second stage the meditator is to lie down with eyes closed and stay silent. In the final stage the meditator is instructed to dance in celebration. This is one of the easier Osho meditations for beginners.

These meditations will introduce the beginner to Osho meditation and what it can do for the meditator which will lead to lifelong peace if practiced on a regular basis.

A Centered Meditation With Meditation Chairs

Posted: 12 Dec 2011 10:00 PM PST

Article by Dr. Rose Windale

The process of exploration, self-attunement and awareness is generally one that is filled with wonders as little by little, the self reaches into its deeper essence. Such is what meditation is all about. Although meditation is an age-old practice, its deeply entrenched benefits into the human psyche have been the constant desire of those who are in search for inner peace and harmony. In our progressively becoming complex society that imposes so many rigors into the human subconscious, meditation has become one of the best means to address the intertwined subliminal issues of a majority of perplexed individuals. Meditation is now included as an inclusion to a health and well-being regimen if one wants to attain a total sense of self-integration and harmony.

As more and more people are becoming aware of the personal rewards of meditation, a large percentage of the population are now practicing its various techniques. With meditation having broken fee from the monastery and being enjoyed by the masses, the business industry has manufactured products which are capable of making meditation conveniently effective. Some of those products are meditation chairs. With meditation chairs, the experience of exploration can be enhanced as it allows the meditator to be in a comfortable and relaxed position when meditating. If a person who engages in meditation has back problems or limited flexibility, meditation chairs offer a convenient alternative to sitting on the floor.

For beginners of meditation, the comfort of meditation chairs can greatly aid in focusing and concentration. As meditation requires harmony of the mind and body, any physical discomfort during the process may interfere with the meditation experience. To obtain the optimum results out of meditation, it is important to be as comfortable as possible as the consciousness begins to expand. Meditation chairs address the problem of physical discomforts such as cramping and distress during meditation. Specially designed meditation chai! rs can p rovide the proper support and alignment to allow a better meditation process. Meditation chairs come in different variations. They could either be meditation benches, inflatable cushions or ergonomically designed tilt chairs.

Depending on the purpose, meditation chairs can allow a meditator to sit in alignment without putting undue pressure on the back or meditation chairs can support the back while allowing the meditator to remain in the optimum upright position. Portable meditation chairs, inflatable cushions or folding benches can also come in handy for those who want to meditate in any setting. For those who are constantly on the go, portable meditation chairs may be a good investment. For meditation chairs to be fully efficient, they must have a slight forward angle which prevents slumping during the meditation practice. The ideal tilting of a meditation chair, though, should only be a few inches as over aching can result from a too steeply angled chair.

Meditation chairs are particularly useful in Zen meditation as the technique requires several sitting positions. Manufacturers of Zen meditation chairs offer the products in different materials as well as various styles. As meditation should be an awesome experience of inner discovery and peace, meditation chairs can make the process of keeping in touch with oneself more centered as the meditator can focus on what really matters.

Laughter Yoga: HO, HO, HAH-HAH-HAH!

Posted: 12 Dec 2011 08:00 PM PST

Article by Vishwa Prakash

The science of Yoga originated from India and involves physical and mental practices that can be traced back to more than three thousand years. Yoga is popular all over the world today. It demands hard work from the students to learn yoga. Yoga is also called "sadhna" in India or a practice that improves ones mental growth and brings physical health too.

Introduction to Laughter Yoga

Among the different styles of Yoga, there is a fun part of it too, which is known as laughter yoga or 'hasya' yoga. It is said laughter is the best medicine and laughter yoga makes the best use of it. Laughter acts as a tonic for a tense mind and a stressed body.

Laughter yoga is traced back to the history of 'yog' in India, mainly practiced by the sages at that time. Today, laughter yoga is very popular in India. Every morning you can see the parks in the cities full of men and women sitting in groups and practicing Indian laughter yoga together. There are more than 5000 laughter medicine clubs all over the country, having millions of members.

To practice healing by laughter yoga, one first needs to sit on a comfortably laid mattress in an open area, say a garden. As this yoga is mostly practiced in groups, one can sit in lotus position in unison. Sitting in a calm position, you should normalize your breath and consciously start taking gentle breaths. Then place your hands (with palm upwards) on your knees. Afterwards, by inhaling, you should take the hands up in the air (side by side to your head) and laugh in rhythm (HO, HO, HAH-HAH-HAH! HO, HO, HAH-HAH-HAH! HO, HO, HAH-HAH-HAH) in a group.

When you practice laughter meditation yoga in a group, the simulated and artificial laughter will become real Indian laughter gradually. You can repeat the exercise by increasing and decreasing the speed of laughter. One session of laughter yoga may last about 20 to 30 minutes.

Advantages of laughter yoga

Healing Laughter yoga is laughter medicine which is not religious, or political bu! t good f or ones health. Laughter meditation yoga has a very good effect on the body and removes all negative energy vibes. It makes one independent from the mind and the thought processes relax for some time.

Indian laughter yoga is medicinal and healing. It makes you forget your fears, worries and limitations and makes you remember only the positives that life has to offer.

10 Top Meditation Benefits: How Does Meditation Help the Human Body?

Posted: 12 Dec 2011 07:00 PM PST

Article by Suzanne Glover

Meditation benefits are numerous, but what are the ones that really help us feel great mentally, emotionally and physically? These ten benefits of meditation top the list for mental, emotional and physical well-being.

TOP BENEFIT #1: STRESS RELIEF BY LOWERING "STRESS" CHEMICALOne of the best meditation benefits is reducing the well-known stress hormone Cortisol. In fact, Cortisol does significant damage to our bodies. With today's fast-paced society, it is common for many people to have too much cortisol surging through their bodies. High levels of cortisol have been found to increase heart attacks, increase undesirable cholesterol, lower bone density, increase blood pressure, cause hyperglycemia, suppress healthy thyroid and lower immunity all around. Regular meditation significantly lowers cortisol levels and thus reduces the risk for these diseases.

TOP BENEFIT #2: ELIMINATES ANXIETY AND DEPRESSIONRegular meditation increases levels of the neurotransmitters SEROTONIN and GABA which are mood stabilizers. Lowered levels of GABA have been associated with increased anxiety, tension and insomnia. Lowered levels of Serotonin are associated with depression. Increasing serotonin levels is one of the most significant meditation benefits in my opinion since so many people today use anti-depressants to influence Serotonin levels.

TOP BENEFIT #3: IMPROVED AND LASTING SENSE OF WELL-BEINGOne way to get a "natural high" is to increase the endorphins in the body. Many people have experienced this "high" from exercise. Meditation also increases endorphin levels in the body.

TOP BENEFIT #4: QUIETS MIND CHATTERWhen the brain enters a meditative state, one of the benefits of meditation is that the brain has actually "shifted gears" from a "busy mind of Beta frequency" down to a relaxed, calm state of Alpha, Theta or for deep meditation, Delta. Our bodies automatically respond to each brainwave frequency (of Beta, Alpha, Theta or Delta) and become nervous or anx! ious (in Beta) or calm and relaxed (in Alpha.) Easy meditation techniques such as brainwave meditation automatically put the brain into different states, thus directing the body to respond accordingly and produce appropriate chemicals.

TOP BENEFIT #5: INCREASED EMOTIONAL MATURITYRegular mediation not only quiets the mind and body, but also gives rise to increased self-awareness. This gives many people the opportunity to see themselves more objectively and to effectively make change.

TOP BENEFIT #6: SPIRITUAL INSIGHTAnother one of the emotional meditation benefits is that regular meditation puts many people in touch with a "higher power." This increases intuition, creativity, purpose, and can change the perspective from viewing something as a "problem" to instead viewing it as an opportunity for spiritual and emotional growth. These higher emotional states are a natural progression because the mind and body are kept more balanced through the other physical and mental meditation benefits discussed herein.

TOP BENEFIT #7: FEEL MORE EMOTIONALLY CONNECTED TO SELF AND OTHERSCan meditation actually improve relationships? Yes, because when the mind and body's chemicals are working well through regular meditation, many people find the composure, patience and inner peace to handle their relationships and other facets of their lives better. A better connection with self is established and with this connection, there is an open doorway for better emotional connections with others.

TOP BENEFIT #8: ANTI-AGING BY BOOSTING "YOUTHFUL" CHEMICALSCan one of the meditation benefits be that meditation actually keeps us young? Yes, because meditation has been found to improve chemicals such as DHEA, human growth hormone and melatonin, all of which help our bodies fight aging.

TOP BENEFIT #9: INCREASED IMMUNE SYSTEM FUNCTIONINGWhen discussing meditation benefits, it becomes apparent that meditation has significant impact on how well the immune system functions as we have ! already seen by the decrease of cortisol and the increase of "healthy" chemicals such as DHEA, human growth hormone and melatonin. But another way the immune system regenerates itself is when we sleep and people who meditate sleep better. Deeper sleep increases renewal, rejuvenation and increased immune system functioning.

TOP BENEFIT #10: SLEEP REPLACEMENTOne of the truly best meditation benefits if you use an appropriately engineered brainwave meditation mp3, is that your brain can be put into a brain frequency that actually replaces sleep. For example, 2-3 hours of sleep can be replaced when your brain is put into a certain "meditation frequency" for 30 minutes.

SUMMARYWhen starting out, many people want easy meditation techniques. Some types of meditation that are good for beginners are brainwave meditations, breathing meditations or hypnotic meditations. Using a meditation audio that puts you into the meditative state is a very easy way to obtain some of the meditation benefits discussed in this article.

Yoga The Lifetime Practice Of Energy Renewal

Posted: 12 Dec 2011 06:00 PM PST

Article by Helen Thomas

Yoga

Yoga in Sanskrit means "union" and derives from the Hindu religion. It can be a spiritual practice that incorporates meditation and other mental exercises. A yoga session combined with mindful breathing can be a "moving meditation." There are many schools of yoga, but hatha yoga is the form most commonly practiced in Western countries, and classes and private lessons are available in health clubs, dance centers, yoga centers, and community centers. This form emphasizes physical postures called asanas and integrates them with breathing techniques.

Inactivity alone is responsible for much of the physical and mental deterioration I equate with illness, aging, and "feeling old." Practicing hatha yoga regularly not only relieves tension and pain in your joints and builds strength, flexibility, balance, and grace; it helps you reach a state of awareness, tranquillity, and well-being. Practicing yoga regularly helps balance your nervous, endocrine, reproductive, digestive, and circulatory systems. Yoga knows no age limit - you're never too young or too old, and adherents age seventy and over remain astoundingly strong and limber.

The calmness achieved during the practice carries over into the rest of your life. Yoga students and teachers tend to look and act younger than their chronological years, and new students of the practice say they feel more energetic after only a few weeks' time. Although it can be strenuous, yoga is highly adaptable to your abilities and is suitable for people of all ages. You can learn yoga from books and videotapes, but it's best to participate in yoga classes (or get individual instruction), especially if you're new to the practice.

The basic yoga routine described on the next few pages is called the Sun Salutation. It is a full-body exercise that works on all the major muscle groups and joints and massages the internal organs. It should be performed joyously by everyone every day. I will be recommending additional specific yoga postures.

Y! oga is b est performed on an empty stomach, in bare feet, while wearing loose or stretchy clothing, on a non-skid surface. There are special yoga "sticky mats" you can buy to prevent slipping and give you the most out of your practice. Breathing is an integral part of yoga because it is thought that prana, the vital life force, enters the body with each breath. As you practice yoga, coordinate your breathing with the movements: inhale during movements that stretch the spine and open the body; exhale during movements that involve bending or folding of the spine or limbs. Imagine that each breath is an extension of the pose, and keep your movements fluid and precise as you work to open up and extend your entire spine. Be conscious of your hands and feet as the foundation of each pose; imagine they are lotus blossoms, and spread your fingers and toes as if they were lotus petals.

I recommend that you perform the entire Sun Salutation sequence twelve times each morning. Begin slowly, with fewer repetitions, if you are new to yoga or physical activity. Gradually build up to twelve sequences,.Vata types should continue to do these movements slowly, pittas should move at a moderate pace, and kaphas should aim to do them rapidly.

Meditation for Pain Relief: How to Meditate Your Pain Away

Posted: 12 Dec 2011 05:00 PM PST

Article by Suzanne Glover

Mindful meditation for pain relief has been proven to decrease the mind's response to pain by 40-57% according to a discovery published in The Journal of Neuroscience. But how do you get these benefits when you're in so much pain you can't think? This article offers you easy meditation techniques to use for meditation for anxiety and pain relief.

But let's briefly discuss the research behind this great discovery.

THE RESEARCH: According Fadel Zeidan, Ph.D., in The Journal of Neuroscience, "Mindfulness meditation... significantly reduced pain unpleasantness by 57% and pain intensity ratings by 40%... Together, these data indicate that meditation engages multiple brain mechanisms that alter the construction of the subjectively available experience..."

So, what is Dr. Zeidan really saying? Not only is the brain "too busy meditating" to experience pain, but that meditation in and of itself significantly changes the structure of the brain to reduce pain. This research gives great significance to using meditation for pain relief.

BENEFITS OF MEDITATION: While this research shows one of the best benefits of meditation, i.e., pain relief, there are a few other physical benefits well worth noting:

Meditation lowers stress chemicals such as cortisol and adrenaline, both of which increase pain, anxiety and depression.Meditation increases good chemicals such as endorphins that help the body stay healthier overall, which in turn lessens pain, anxiety and depression.Meditation also boosts whole brain power which answers the question that many people are asking, "How can I increase my brain power?"Meditation is one of the best relaxation techniques because of long-term and cumulative effects.

MINDFUL MEDITATION FOR BEGINNERS: When learning how to meditate, it is important to find easy meditation techniques. Why? Because learning mindful meditation can take years of study and practice, and unless you are completely devoted, the task may seem to be "too much work.! "

In particular, when you want to use meditation for pain relief, to put forth the effort to learn mindful meditation while feeling such pain can seem a bit daunting.

BRAINWAVE ENTRAINMENT: When you enter into a state of mindful meditation, your brain "shifts gears" to different electrical frequencies. Just like when you change stations on a radio, so your brain "changes stations" to vibrate at a different frequency. Brainwave entrainment is a way to electronically induce meditation and is one of the best types of meditation for beginners who want to use meditation for pain relief because it electronically "shifts your mind's gears" into the various states of alpha, theta or delta.

Alpha brainwaves: This is a light meditative state where you feel calm and relaxed. If you are doing meditation for anxiety or meditation to relieve stress, this light meditative state is fine.

Theta brainwaves: This brain state is a deeper state of meditation and is used for increased memory, focus and overall well-being.

Delta brainwaves: Now this is "where it's at" when you want pain relief. When your mind is in the delta frequency, you have increased immune function as well as put out chemicals that have a deep renewing benefit to your body.

But the delta brainwave state of mind is only achieved when we are in deep, restful sleep. So, if you have pain, which leads to insomnia, which leads to decreased sleep, which leads to less "delta time" for the brain, you are in a downward spiral.

HOW TO GET STARTED: It is easy to get started with brainwave entrainment:

Find a good brainwave entrainment audio that puts your brain down into at least 2.5 Hz for 20-30 minutes.Set aside 30-45 minutes a day to listen to a brainwave meditation audio that puts you into the delta frequency. The best time to listen to it would be as you go to sleep at night.Give yourself time to reap the benefits of this pain management technique. Your body has its own rhythm for healing, so give yourself time! to deve lop your body's reserves to renew itself and feel good again.

SUMMARY: Meditation for pain relief has been scientifically proven to work. Using a brainwave entrainment meditation to put your brain into the appropriate brain frequency to achieve these results gives you one of the best types of meditation to use to get started right away and to keep going because you can meditate your pain away while you sleep!

Getting Your Yoga Teaching Certification

Posted: 12 Dec 2011 04:00 PM PST

Article by James Wilson

Training for your yoga certification to be a teacher is a frequently considered process for people with at least a year of yoga lessons. There are lots of ways to get your certification, but the fastest is to see if the yoga studio you already attend offers a teacher training course. A good teacher training class that justifies the amount of money and time you may spend on lessons must be approved by a national certifying agency, such as Yoga Alliance in the US. Being registered with a larger organization of yoga teachers shows future students, if you do pursue a career, that your training is of standard quality with the majority of yoga instructors in your practice. An added feature of being a member of a large organization is that you will have a means of communicating and learning from other yoga instructors. You will also stay informed about local yoga-related activities which may be relevant to you. Before you make the decision to get certified, you should make sure that you are informed about the different practices of yoga, and the level of dedication that might be required for your chosen style. There are many different styles of yoga developed by different yogis: while some types of yoga, like Bikram or "Hot Yoga" rely on only certain postures as a method to increase your health, other schools like Iyengar yoga call for the use of many pieces of equipment such as blocks and straps to achieve physical positions. You should be informed that some types of yoga ask the trainee to study Buddhist or Hindu spiritualism, which may be a hurdle for people with other faiths. Before committing to any style of yoga to train for certification in, it is important to read up on at least a couple separate yoga teachings and to be aware of the different chances for training in your area. And, you should figure out the length of time you are willing and able to commit for your classes, as some training programs take only a couple weeks or months, while others can potentially take years to complete. Even afte! r you co mplete the initial teaching program, it's necessary to continue your practice on a frequent basis, attending workshops and retreats to deepen your understanding of yoga. Yoga is really a lifelong learning process, and your practice will adapt to suit your situation: a teacher training program is one of the ways you can make use of the benefits of maintaining a yoga practice.

Naked Yoga: Is It For Me?

Posted: 12 Dec 2011 03:00 PM PST

Article by James Philson

So you've tried Yoga and you're pretty good at it, right? Your fairly confident at holding a very demanding yoga position, while breathing correctly, while thinking correctly and all in all you would consider yourself quite the a yoga guru, right? Well imagine all these benefits but with the added touch of being NAKED. That's the trend that is sweeping the whole globe at the moment, with more and more naked yoga classes emerging than ever before. Why you ask, this is what I wanted to find out.

Now the vision is that by practicing yoga with no clothes on it improves your yoga experience, develops your abilities and strengthens the unity with your mind, body and soul. On top of this it is believed that clothing appears to be in direct opposition to the goals of yoga. Yoga encourages and promotes unity and oneness, but by design, clothing reminds us of the ways in which we are different. So when we yoga naked we are believed to be in full acceptance of our bodies, we are more flexible and are in a more deepen spiritual state.

So I decided to give it a go, I mean all these benefits just by taking your clothes off why not right? Now I should state that are two ways to practice naked yoga, one is at home and the other is in a naked yoga class or group. I decided to start at home just for comfort reasons, but never disregarded the whole class idea.

I'll be honest, when you first yoga in the nude it does feel a bit strange at first. I mean we don't really get naked and do any activities apart from wash, right? But after the initial quirky feeling you get from seeing your body in its full glory it actually feels quite good. I felt a strong willingness to let go of many negative feelings around my body image and a real wanting to just accept my body for what it is, instead of what I wanted it to be. This I didn't really feel with the traditional type.

The naked yoga gurus contend that this type of yoga enables you to have a more flexible yoga session. After giving it a go I would s! urely ha ve to agree. Sometimes wearing clothes can restrict you from that really flexible asana's that you've been trying so hard to perfect. For me this is the best type of yoga practice, although not mainstream yet, there is a real global "snowball effect" happening with more and more people giving it a go. I would really recommend someone tries this type of yoga at least in the comfort of your own home. For me it is an addition to traditional yoga as oppose to a replacement. Give it a go!

For those of you who are really thinking about giving this a go then a good internet search will bring up lots of information. I myself found a really valuable downloadable report from a site called: http://www.nakedyogaclub.com

It goes through many benefits of naked yoga and explains some important yoga issues. It was free when I downloaded it so, hopefully it still is now.

About Incredible Meditation Experiences

About Meditation

About Meditation States

Meditation is the doorway to the infinite and those who have a serious meditation practice, inevitably enjoy glimpses of True Reality and the benefits that such encounters bestow.  Some who evolve to the highest human potential, even find themselves established and operating from the One Source and become a reflection of the bliss, joy and love, which are attributes of this dimension.  Along the way to these great heights, there are many amazing experiences the meditator has, and this series is going to be about such meditation experiences.

There are many interesting aspects about meditation experiences.  Some can be extraordinary and life transforming, but others can also be scary or painful.  Some states and experiences are unique to the individual, while others are quite common and felt by many.  They can involve all the senses, being full of light, sounds and pleasure, and they can also involve involuntary movements and even speech.  Sometimes the experiences can bring insight and clarity, while sometimes they can be beyond comprehension and description.  So as you can see the range of meditation experiences can indeed be vast.

As this blog is all about meditation and yoga, a lot of readers share their meditation and spiritual experiences with me.  In addition, having been a meditator for many decades now, many experiences and states have crossed my consciousness.  So in this series, I will share with all of you these experiences and states.

Reasons Behind the About Meditation Experiences Series

There are 3 primary reasons for compiling these experiences.  Of course it is ve! ry inter esting to read about the mind blowing things one can experience during meditation, but that is not the main reason for undertaking this task.  I feel that such experiences can be inspiring to others and motivate them in their own meditation practice.  Also, most of these experiences are full of tremendous insight into the true nature of reality and that wisdom can be shared with you in this series.  And finally, meditation states and experiences can sometimes be overwhelming, painful and even scary, and knowing that others are also going through similar challenges, can be comforting and helpful in encouraging you to go further and deeper.

In the last part of this series I will create a full list about the different types of meditation experiences and states, and in this first part of this series, I want to share with you an experience about Kundalini Energy and how it might manifest in you during meditation.

Anmol's Meditation Journal

(I actually don't have the date for this entry, but my guess is that it was a few years ago).

About Experiencing Kundalini During Meditation:

Today as I sat for some afternoon meditation the following transpired.

The inspiration to meditate resulted from listening to some beautiful music and a quiet afternoon.  Both conspiring to inspire.

As I sat, a few minutes in, the beautiful insight of being open and simple began to blossom.  To be open, to be simple, just like a clear blue sky with no clouds.  This thought and subsequent understanding began to take hold and on that I meditated.

As the meditation continued, my understanding deepened and I strove to apply this understanding in the now (being completely simple and innocent at the deepest possible levels of thought and mind).

That's when my body began to shake.  Slowly at first and then vigorously.  The shaking began in the legs and went up from there.  Subsequently, my back began to both stiffen and straighten. My torso and posture became fully erect and then I felt a terrible burning in my lower back region.

The burning was very intense and seemed to be moving up my back.  I strove to handle the immense energy and heat, and felt like I would explode.  I could only handle it for a short time and then I relaxed once again.  I guess that energy is what is called the Kundalini.  It will take incredible character to release it fully.

My pranam to Lord Shiva.

Lessons Learned from Meditation Entry:

There are many worthwhile tidbits of information in the experience above that I would like to highlight a few for your benefit.

1. Inspiration for Meditation:

As you can see my inspiration to sit for meditation, came from simply enjoying some beautiful music.  So if you surround yourself with things that inspire you towards infinity, you will find yourself being called upon to meditate and practice.  Such inspiration could come from any source that works for you.  Be that books, people, nature, etc.

2. Slow Down in Life:

Being inspired to meditate is one thing, having the time to do it is another.  If you are so busy that you can't find the time for meditation, you will miss the best part of life.  In my case above, I was blessed to have a quiet afternoon, which allowed for me to meditate spontaneously when the inspiration struck.  So try to simplify your lives and make room for spontaneous living and spiritual work.

3. About Kundalini During Meditation:

One often associates Kundalini with yoga practice, but Kundalini is also often experienced by meditators, as I described above.  Don't let such experiences scare you away.  Instead, focus on being healthy and fit, so you have a body capable of dealing with the power of such energy.  Such health and fitness will give you the confidence to explore these intense events more deeply.

For those interested in Kundalini during meditation, I suggest reading the following article – Kundalini Meditation | Power of the Energy.

4. Keep a Meditation Journal:

I also want to suggest to all of you to keep a meditation journal, where you can note down your experiences after your meditation or yoga practice.  This journal will not just chart your journey and be a treasure for you when you look back on it, but keeping a journal can also be very helpful in giving you more insight and clarity into your mind and heart.

About Meditation Experiences Summary:

If you have experienced altered states of consciousness or anything else interesting during meditation, please do share it with us in the comments section below.  As I mentioned in this series I will be compiling a list of such experiences and your input will help in this task.

For those who want to learn more about meditation, I suggest starting your own practice using the free online class below.

Meditation and Its Benefits on Health and Mind

Posted: 12 Dec 2011 01:00 PM PST

Article by Dave Brown

Self-help meditation books are quite in demand these as days as the urbanites are getting increasingly entwined with their work life with no single moment to relax their body and mind. Meditation in the recent decades has emerged as the most acceptable alternative to energize body and spirit which is necessary to balance work and life-after-work. But due to lack of time, it becomes impossible to head for Haridwar or for Rishikesh for a month-long retreat. Books on meditation allow this busy generation to strike this balance in life and rejuvenate their body. In fact, meditation is not only regarded as an ancient practice that unwinds body, mind and spirit. People also meditate today to overcome serious health issues and meditation books can really help the practitioners in a great way.

Though meditation in India is closely related to spirituality since the pre-Christian time, in the past few decades, there has been extensive study on how meditation can be put to use for medical treatment. Today there are scores of meditation books that discuse not only the benefits of this practice first propagated by Patanjali some 2200 years ago but also detail on the respective of postures of different forms of meditation practiced in India. At the bottom, deep meditation de-stresses mind, removes negative energy and inspires thought that are more constructive. One becomes more focused and attains an enhanced consciousness. But there are specific medical issues that can be overcome by observing the correct body posture and books on meditation offer immense insight into these benefits.

Stress: Stress has become the most unwanted gift of modern life and meditation books are there that can give you a fair idea of how meditation and concentration help one to reduce the level of cortisol--the key stress hormone in human beings. Research has shown that during meditation, the production of this hormone is very low and this state continues for hours after the meditation. In fact there are books on medita! tion tha t describes how our body attains a state of calmness through meditation which boosts alpha waves in the brain and make our minds more receptive and quiet. An Electroencephalograph (EEG) is also enough to prove that during meditations, the intensity of alpha waves is greater than when we are asleep. Today, meditation is a well-researched discipline and books on meditations provide vital information about the physical and mental benefits of this practice. If you are looking for a reliable meditation destination, you can approach Z Meditation in India.

Heart issues: Cardio benefits of meditation have been published in several renowned journals including Psychosomatic Medicine and a journal called Stroke from American Heart Association. And meditation books often refer to these journals to support claims about the benefits of meditation. According to these books on meditation, yoga and concentration check the level of lipid peroxide, a substance that thickens the walls of artery. These meditation books also claim that blood pressure of those who meditate is significantly lower than those who don't. Insomnia: Meditation is widely considered an effective insomnia treatment. Muscle tension and disturbing thought interfere with sleep but when you quieten your mind and relax your body, you shake off them and you can take up meditation as a part of your daily chores. Authoritative meditation books provide extensive information about correct posture and meditation technique for good results. Some books on meditation also do propose, though debated, that meditation improves immunity by facilitating increased production of antibody. Research also shows that meditation brings positive emotion by working on some areas of brain. Though some of the claims made in such meditation books are debated, it is really the benefits on health and mind that account for such wide-ranging popularity of this originally Indian tradition.

Raja Hatha yoga meditation

Posted: 12 Dec 2011 12:00 PM PST

Article by Beyond-meditation

Raja yoga meditation is the real path of achieving success in yoga and establishing equilateral relationship between our mind, body and soul. Body is externally appearing, mind resides inside it and our spirit is in the deepest core. Soul has three subcategories and there are: consciousness, intellect and sub consciousness. Thoughts originate in our subconscious and flow into the conscious mind, during this phenomenon, feelings and emotions are created as byproducts. Feeling binds our thoughts. Intellect acts like a controller, so allows only positive and friendly thoughts to play in our mind and affect our body accordingly. Raja Yoga meditation is so highly practiced because it drives to the destination of enlightenment and directs control and mastery of the mind. This approach makes Raja Yoga an extremely challenging and difficult practice to involve in. Raja yoga aims to control the body and breathe to stabilize our prana that in turn calms the mind. Raja Yoga is often quoted as classical yoga or Hatha Raja yoga as it was the oldest system of yoga which finally developed into scientific and systematic culture. "Raja yoga" is initiated by Patanjali, who learn yoga for enlightenment in the fresh environment of Himalayas. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali break down the practice of Raja yogic meditation into eight limbs or sub-practices. The first four limbs are referred to as the external limbs and the remaining four are named as internal. Four external limbs are: Yama, Niyama, Asana and Pranayama. Yama and Niyama are the yogic laws of right conduct and lifestyle. Yama includes truth speaking, feeling of non-violence, love and respects for others, honesty and non-covetousness. Niyama is for developing positive self-encouraged activities, and includes discipline, purity, contentment, self-study as well as devotion to supernatural being. According to raja yoga Vivekananda, the third limb, Asana means simply finding our comfortable yet stable sitting position before performing yoga practice. Forth limb! of yoga is Pranayama, the science of yogic breathing. Patanjali suggests the Raja yogi to observe and slow the breath down to the point where one cannot distinguish between the inhalation and the exhalation. After preparing for external yoga, one proceeds towards the practice of internal limbs of yoga: Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi. Pratyahara is the drawing of the mind's concentration away from the external senses to the inner sensations. When the mind draws inwards, Dharana is used to focus our mind on a single object, which is often breathing. This time the practice becomes challenging, keeping the mind focused and preventing attachment with thoughts. When one acquires the ability to focus the mind only on breathing to the point of being totally absorbed in it, then next limb called Dhyana or meditation begins. Finally, the uninterrupted practice of Dhyana leads to the last limb, Samadhi. Enlightenment, this means ultimate bliss or renunciation. At this stage of raja yoga meditation, yogi is completely free from all types of cosmic attachments.
