Cool Yoga Postures for Hot Summer Days

Article by Ellen Meador

Do you want to stay cool while practicing yoga during those hot summer days? We tend to move more in the summer months, which is a great thing! But when the sun's too oppressive or the day's too muggy, outdoor activities drop off. So, in the hot days of summer, you would do well to practice yoga postures that actually keep you cool.

Generally speaking, forward extensions are the cooling yoga postures practiced during hot days. Find a nice breezy location near an open window or door. The fresh air helps. Don't attack the poses. Remember to move into each of the yoga postures with deliberation and set up your alignment properly. The names of yoga poses that will give you a relaxing and cooling practice without overheating are Janu Sirasana (Head Knee Pose) and Marichiasana (Seated Twist with several variations). Along with these basic poses, more can be added, depending on the time you have available, your energy level, and how much experience you have had. You may add Ardha Baddha Padma Paschimottanasana (Half Bound Lotus Forward Bend), Triang Mukhaikapada Paschimottanasana (Three Limb Face Down Forward Bend), and Paschimottanasana (Full Forward Bend). There are so many variations on how they can be performed, yet that does not mean one can be sloppy! These five yoga postures translate into forward bends with a knee to the side, one leg in lotus, one leg in Virasana and twisting, with the final version of the pose looping arms around legs and the torso and using leverage. The final yoga pose is a plain forward extension with legs fully straightened.

In seated poses, press your legs down into the floor, keep that action as you bend at the hip joint, not the mid-back. Then lengthen your front spine as you stretch forward. In Iyengar Yoga, yoga postures are supported with props like straps to catch foot, or a bolster to support your torso. This way you should get the benefits of wonderful yoga by: 1) keeping yourself moving during hot summer days, which is good for your lymph system that ! cleanses your tissues, 2) keeping yourself cool which is not only appropriate but satisfying, and 3) keeping your tissues toned, strong and alert. Practicing yoga postures is all about appropriate balance in the self, both in the moment and in life.

So this summer, keep moving, stay cool, help your tissues stay cleansed and toned. Practice forward bends like Janu Sirsasana and Marichiansana. These yoga postures during hot summer days will avoid overheating. Enjoy the benefits and stress reduction that comes with practicing yoga postures in these busy times. Namaste

Article by dr rony

The entire human race is divided in fact into males and females. There are so many physical, physiological, mental and emotional differences that exist between the males and females. These differences actually make the males and females as unique as they are.

These gender differences are not just sexual in the orientation but they make each part of the human species unique in their own way. The general perceptions that exist between the genders and will only be highlighted here for developing a basic insight into the most fundamental differences between the genders.

An indispensable part of the discussion focuses on the fact that the overall nature has created the males to be the providers and the females to be the nurturers. This is why the basic infrastructure of the male body is much stronger than the females. The idea is not to cross paths with any ideologies or groups favouring certain some sensibilities. We shall keep the discussion here by restricted only to the basic infrastructure that defines the differences in the genders. The essential constitution of the male body is evenly directed towards strength, vigour and vitality. This is because the basic musculature and the skeletal systems are stronger than those of the females. Yoga for Men

It is seen that the men who practice yoga along with the other forms of exercises benefit more. This is because the yoga practices are even designed according to the physical,! physiol ogical and even emotional and mental aspects of the different constitution of the body.

Yoga is one form of complete exercise for the entire system not because no other form of physical exercise gives a complete workout to the external and as well as the internal organs of the system. The practice of specific asanas and pranayama can totally develop the internal organs and the respiratory system so that the flow of vital prana is fully regulated in the system. Sound and Meditation

Posted: 19 Dec 2011 07:08 AM PST

Article by Sharon Carne

It is common knowledge that meditation is a major tool for handling symptoms of stress. Developing a meditation practice can lower blood pressure, boost the immune system, calm the emotions and mind and connect you deeply with your inner essence or spirit. And there are many, many ways to meditate. In this article you are offered the opportunity to meditate with sound, or more specifically, the silence between the sounds.

Our sense of hearing is the most acutely tuned over a wider range than any of the other senses. Not only that, we hear with the whole body. Dr. Alfred Tomatis called our sense of hearing "a portal into the brain."

Sound (and hearing) and meditation can be a powerful combination. Studies have already shown that the combination of sound and guided meditation boosts the immune system more effectively than sound or meditation alone. Another powerful way of using sound and meditation together is the singing of mantras. An example of a well-known and loved mantra is "Om mani padme hum."

For the purpose of this article, the focus for the sound meditations below is more on the silence or space in between the sounds. There are two sound meditations offered for your exploration, a meditation with a flute track and a Tibetan sound meditation.

Flute Meditation

The first meditation is a five-minute track I recorded with my native flute. Before you begin either meditation, check in on the state of your body, mind and emotions, then check in again after the meditation to see if you notice any change. By listening to the flute meditation twice with a different focus each time, you can explore first, the sounds themselves and second, the spaces between the sounds.

To access the sound file please copy and paste the link at the end of the resource box below into your browser. The file is stored on my web site.

1. You will discover on the first listening that the sounds are unpredictable. This is intentional and offers the opportunity to exercise the inner ! ear and engage the mind. Another way to focus on the sounds is to just allow them to wash over you as you relax.

Make sure you check in with your body, mind and emotions before listening for the second time. This can give you valuable information to how the sound and/or your focus on the sound affect you. You might want your journal or a notepad and pen close by to take note as you explore the sound.

2. As you listen to the flute track the second time, focus on the space between the sounds. Note what happens in your body, mind and emotional state. Is it easier or more challenging than listening to the sounds? Does one way of listening need more concentration than the other? Our sense of focused listening is extremely sensitive and subtle.

Tibetan Sound Meditation

The second sound meditation is a Tibetan sound meditation. You can do this one waiting for the bus, standing in line or sitting on a park bench. Opportunities for this technique are limitless and offer a profound way to enter into emptiness. I experienced this technique at Tom Kenyon's, Sound Healer's Training. The instructions for this meditation are included in his book, "Brain States" on page 190. See below:

"The following exercise is a Tibetan Sound Meditation that brings you into a direct awareness of the space or silence from which all sound vibration emerges. It develops subtle perception and intuition and has a very calming influence on the body and mind.

1. Sit in a comfortable position and close your eyes.

2. Let your breath be slow and calm, taking about six seconds for the inhale and about six seconds for the inhale and about six seconds for the exhale. Breathe in this way for a minute or so before going on to Step 3.

3. Continuing to breathe in this calm and slow pattern, move your awareness into the sounds around you. But instead of focusing your attention on the sounds themselves, focus on the space or silence around the sound.

4. Get a sense of the spatial orientation of each sound. T! hat is, notice if a particular sound is close or faraway, above you or below you, etc.

5. Try to get a felt sense of the space or silence around each sound you hear and of the greater space that holds all of the sounds including you. Practice this form for ten to thirty minutes, longer if you wish.

Practicing this meditation once a day for thirty days or so will generate profound benefits, including a greater sense of calm and peace as well as health benefits associated with reduced stress. In addition, the consistent practice of this meditation will give you a deep and intuitive knowledge of how sound and vibration relate to your own consciousness."

As with the flute meditation, you might want to have a journal nearby to jot down observations and insights gained in your explorations.

Advantages of Meditation Chairs

Article by Tammy Greene

What Is A Meditation Chair? For proper meditation and healing exercises, it is believed that a correct posture should be maintained to reap maximum health benefits, which may otherwise lead to adverse effects on health and the meditation process will be of little or no use.

Some people, who wish to meditate for long hours and on routine basis, find it very intriguing that a correct postural position should be attained for meditation exercises involving sedentary position for long hours. So, in order to meditate comfortably they look for options available in the market ranging from meditation cushions, mattresses to meditations chairs.

Meditation chairs are sought after by numerous buyers, since a perfect seated posture is necessary for ideal meditation. As in many postural exercises especially during long time-span of meditation, the body attains a relaxed stage for which a comfortable base is needed, which is provided by meditation chairs. Meditation chairs supports the body in a comfortable position by molding according to the body stretches, and helps to erase cramps and gives you total relaxation. The meditation chairs are designed ergonomically and prevent the body of a person from slumping during focused phases of meditation and relaxing exercises because of its titled design.

What Are The Types Of Meditation Chairs Available In The Market?Chinese meditation chairs are the most historic models, which do not have features like ergonomic design. There is no padding for support, but the chair is wide, which gives enough space to exercise meditation postures involving sedentary positions and spreading of legs for prolonged time.

The sea grass chair is conceived for practicing postural position of a lotus position. This chair has all the features which allow a person to meditate comfortably by crossing ankles, feet and follow the lotus pose. Since this chair has a support for your spine, you will not have any problems or complains of back pain and stiff muscles.

Tilt! seat ch airs and kneeling chairs are ergonomically designed chairs that allow comfort of knees and legs while maintaining certain meditation positions.

Besides all these alternatives, the market is abundant with style, size and shapes of ergonomically preferred meditation chairs and other accessories like mattress, cushions, sofas and tables or benches for extended support.

How To Maximize Benefits By Carefully Selecting Meditation Chairs? The selection criterion for a meditation chair depends on the body size, height and weight for enhanced comfort. Padded chairs are good options for comfort while practicing deep meditation postures for long hours. It is also good to take into account the back support to keep your spine straight to ward off any sort of back pain or complains regarding body aches since this mars the positive effects a person is attaining from meditation.

The prices of a meditation chair are often reflective of a design and the material used. So, to ward off any complains for stiff muscles and body aches it's a good choice to invest your money in the quality and ergonomically designed products. Choose one which is movable and has push back options as it will give you enough room to lean forward and spread your body in a relaxing position while meditating.

Learn The Simple Meditation Methods

Posted: 19 Dec 2011 03:00 AM PST

Article by Lucile Taylor

Do you want to meditate? Well if you do, there are a lot of meditation methods that one can choose from. Meditation doesn't always have to mean sitting down with crossed legged position and eyes closed, it can be as simple as walking and standing. Anytime that we concentrate on something other than our thoughts, we are already meditating. We can meditate while we walk, move, lie down, stand, sit, or even while silent or speaking. And there is always no perfect position for meditation, whatever is most comfortable for a person that would allow him to meditate is fine.

There are two kinds of meditation, moving meditation and still meditation. Moving meditation involves movements of the body such as Qi Gong, Tai Chi, Yoga, dancing, walking and jogging. In this case rhythmic series of movements and the mind concentrates or is centered on breath. Thoughts are recognized without judgment and then our focus goes back to breath. Focus can also be on the movement itself, the flowing internal energy from the body, the external environment, or even in the case of dancing, the connection to music. In still meditation on the other hand, our bodies and minds are unmoving. Sitting, standing, or lying meditation focuses on anything; breath, counting, a mantra (sound), candles, incense, a rock, a spot on the ground or ceiling, the birds, the sky, anything your heart desires. Thoughts are recognized without judgment, then let go, and concentration is brought back to what you were originally focused on. Breathing is through the nose in a natural unforced manner.

Here are some common meditation methods:

Standing MeditationThis is one of the meditation methods that are a great exercise to practice proper breathing and a simple way to concentrate and regain proper breathing techniques like what we naturally had when we were infants.

Stand comfortably with your spine straight and feet about shoulder distance apart, opening the left hand and placing the thumb on your belly button so the palm of ! the hand is against the lower abdomen, then place you right hand on top of left in the same manner. Breathe slowly and feel the lower part of your abdomen expand and naturally pushing away your hands outward your belly. Hold the breath for four seconds and then exhale slowly, feeling your lower abdomen contracting inward as the air is released. Recognize the thoughts without judgment and bring back the concentration to your breath.

Walking MeditationOne of the meditation methods that is a very effective way of exercising and meditating. Simply walk at a natural and comfortable pace, concentrate on the sole of your feet touching making contact with the earth. Focus on the spot in the center of your foot just at the forward part of the arch. With each step feel this spot making contact with the earth and extending into the earth, next foot after the other. Allow normal, relaxed breathing through the lower abdomen. Recognize thoughts without judgment bringing back the concentration to the sole of the foot or your breath.

Lying MeditationThis is one of the meditation methods that is simple and can be done upon bedtime or prior to a nap, by simply lying down and focusing the attention on breath. Breathing should be into and out of the lower abdomen. Concentrate on inhaling and exhaling, or counting the breaths. Focus on a spot on the ceiling or the sky if you're outdoors. Recognize thoughts without judgment bringing back concentration back to breathing.

Sitting Meditation (Zazen)These meditation methods involve finding a comfortable sitting position for you. You can sit comfortably either in a chair with your feet flat on the ground or crossed legged on the floor (left leg over right) using a cushion under the buttocks for comfort and to prop up the hips higher than the knees. In either case, the back should always be straight but without straining. The palms of the hands are open and can be placed on the thighs, palms up or you can bring the hands together, left palm on top of the right palm, thum! bs barel y touching each other, resting comfortably against the lower abdomen.

Once you find a comfortable sitting position for you, you can use spoken or silent mantra, or listen to soothing music or sound, or focus on a candle, burning incense or other small objects, or just simply breath. Breathing should be natural and through the nose. Head is tilted slightly downward and the body is completely relaxed. Recognize thoughts without judgment and bring back concentration to the original object of focus.

Remember that these meditation methods have no goals, there is no bad or good meditation, there is simply meditating.

The Secret of Meditation

Posted: 18 Dec 2011 11:00 PM PST

Article by Evette Gardner

Do you want to become more spiritually enlightened; feel more connected to the people and things around you; or even relieve yourself of mental and physical stress? One of the top recommendations for all of the above aspirations is meditate. But what does this mean exactly? What is meditation? Images of some tranquil faced person, donned in relaxed attire, sitting in the lotus position is a commonly conjured impression when thinking of the idea of meditation. And while such an image may indeed be apt, it unfortunately does very little to actually convey an understanding about what meditation really is. Pictures may only hint at meditative techniques (or rather strategies which might make your mind more conducive towards meditation). And while a lot can be said for the benefits of any number of different meditative techniques, meditation is strictly an internal activity. Which means pictures have very little to offer as far as offering an explanation as to what takes place in meditation. Never confuse technique with intent; for though there may be numerous methods of meditation, the intent of meditation is always the same. Be present. Of all the many definitions of meditation (and yes there are plenty of them), the intent that underscores them all is actually one. Be present. For example, let's look at the following definitions of meditation:

Meditation means "consciously directing your attention to alter your state of consciousness." Question: What is this state of consciousness to be realized?Answer: To be present."Meditation is a discipline in which one attempts to get beyond the conditioned, 'thinking' mind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness."Question: What is this deeper state of relaxation and / or awareness?Answer: Being present.Meditation means "continuous thought and reflection" or "intent observance."Question: Continuous thought and reflection or intent observance to what end?Answer: To being present.Be present. Be present Be present. That truly is all there really is to m! editatio n. Simply be present. But how does one go about being present? Now this I cannot really explain to you. I'm actually of the opinion that trying to teach someone how to meditate by telling them what to do is like trying to teach someone how to swallow or inhale by employing the same approach. Words are inadequate to the task. Being present is just one of those somethings that you will only understand by getting a natural feel for it. What's more, it is only by recognizing the experience of what being present is that you grow in your ability to induce the meditative state at will. And even though words may be inadequate to the task of explaining how to be present, words are extremely valuable in describing what it is to be present.Being present is just as natural a tendency as swallowing or inhaling. You fall into and out of this state of consciousness all the time while washing the dishes, drifting off to sleep, walking in the park, riding a roller coaster, using the bathroom... You do not need to be taught how to be present. You merely need to learn to recognize what being present is in order to become a proficient meditator. And to that end, consider this...Think of a time in your experience when you felt wholly engrossed in the moment. When you felt completely engaged in whatever event was before you for no other motive than you loved just being. You didn't care about how things were going, you weren't trying to make anything happen, you had no agenda, you were worried about nothing, expecting nothing, regretting nothing, you weren't dwelling wistfully over times gone by or trying to distract yourself from the experience of an unpleasant feeling. You were quite simply and unconditionally enraptured with the moment; emotionally engaged in what was going on before you yet mentally impartial about the outcome. You were just content to be. Can you recall such a moment in your experience? True these moments may be fleeting, they often whisk by us unappreciated, but I assure you we do all experience these fl! ashes. T hey occur everyday. The thing is to get in the habit of noticing of them, acknowledging them. These are the moments which show us what it is to be present. Meditation is about deliberately producing these moments. How do you do this? The answer may seem vague, but it's the one that's most proper. You just do it.When you meditate you are making a conscious commitment to think in terms which will evoke the experience of being present. Again, I cannot tell you how to do this, but I can assure you that in your learning to recognize these moments as they involuntarily occur, you will instinctually become aware of what you need to do to voluntarily make these experiences occur. There is definitely no shortage of ideas on meditative techniques "out there." I say go ahead and experiment with them to your heart's content. If you need to feel grounded in a process of focusing on your breath or on chanting or whatever have you, that's quite okay. Ritual is a good way to get yourself in the mood for meditation. Ritual is good practice for meditation because practice is a precursor to actually living out a desired experience. But in all your experimentation with these different meditative techniques, might I suggest that you always remain mindful of the underlying intent of what meditation is. Always be mindful that the objective is to be present. Also, as you are going about your day, from this moment forward might I also suggest that you resolve to be diligent about consciously acknowledging those moments in your experience where you have unconsciously slipped into a period of being present. These acknowledgements will go a long way towards teaching you the secret to meditation. They will do more to this end than any amount of words could ever do. That's what makes it such a good secret. Yoga is considered to be the very old exercise of early times. Yoga is not only a type of work out but also helps in healing the body's imperfection and boosts up the concentration power of your mind. In order to be aware about yoga, first you need to know the meaning of it. It involves variety of properties. It can help to a major extent, in healing the imperfection of the body such as kyphosis. It is the restriction, in which the spine's appears to be in C shape. This deficiency occurs because of faulty habits of sitting. Yoga provides you with variety of asanas to cure this defect. The Best Meditation Chairs At The Lowest Prices Available

Posted: 18 Dec 2011 08:00 PM PST

Article by Cristina Pierce

First, let's understand what meditation is and how it is defined. Meditation is a mental discipline by which one attempts to get beyond the "thinking" mind into a deeper state of relaxation and awareness. Meditation often involves turning attention to a single point of reference. Different meditative disciplines encompass a wide range of spiritual and/or psychophysical practices which may emphasize different goals -- from achievement of a higher state of consciousness, to greater focus, creativity or self-awareness, or simply a more relaxed and peaceful frame of mind. (From Wikipedia)

Now with clear understanding of the need to be relaxed in order to meditate properly, it is important to be able to get your body into that state by sitting comfortably. Creating that unique and special place of ease has never been simpler with the use of meditation chairs and furniture. Here is where I can help you find the perfect piece that will not only get you to that state of relaxation quickly, but will look beautiful in your home.

First, there is the SEAGRASS MEDITATION CHAIR. Designed by a long time practitioner of meditation the Seagrass Meditation Chair was inspired by a need to sit comfortably in a contemplative manner. While sitting closer to the ground provides an unmatched sense of grounding the contemporary westerner often needs something more supportive than just a pillow on the floor.

By lifting the hips a comfortable distance from the floor this low profile chair allows the legs and feet to rest more naturally either on the floor or pulled up on the cushion in the traditional style of the East. In addition the sturdy back rest and pillow provide just the support needed making the Seagrass Meditation Chair the perfect platform for a peaceful sitting experience.

The Seagrass Chair is woven by Indonesian craftsmen from renewable seagrass over a sturdy mango wood frame and was designed to be both a stylish and ecological addition to your home. Also includes washable cotton cush! ion cove rs for practicality as children love these chairs too. The perfect choice for those looking for simplicity and harmony.

The next option is the beautiful RAJA MEDITATION CHAIR. The newly arrived Raja Meditation Chair is the latest in a line of finely crafted meditation furniture for the home or studio. The name "Raja" comes from the Sanskrit word for "royalty" and sitting in this chair will definitely help bring out your inner King or Queen.

The Raja Chair is also made from sustainable materials including a seat and back of woven banana leaf and a solid mango wood frame. In addition this piece features carved legs and decorative flower on the seat as well as coconut wood accents on the back. It also has shorter style arms to help support the arms while still allowing the legs to be crossed if desired.

As always, only water base finishes are used to protect the wood and minimize strain on your health and the environment. Cushions are made of natural kapok stuffing with removable cotton covers for washing. Unlike anything else we think you will find the Raja Chair to be a unique piece for either meditation or simply creating alternative seating arrangements in your home or studio.

The third option is the ECOPOD MEDITATION CHAIR. It's redesigned and has been modified from its predecessor for increased comfort and support while retaining its lovely curved shape. Constructed now from the same durable seagrass weave as the other meditation furniture the Ecopod now has a slanted forward seat to aid in proper spinal alignment while sitting. Lightweight and sustainable materials make the Ecopod an attractive and unique piece to show in your home while providing a perfect platform for supported meditation. Now available in 2 waterbase finishes (Natural & Espresso) with 2 different colored washable cushion covers (Cream & Mocha).

And the last chair that would be a good buy for you is the RATTAN LOTUS MEDITATION CHAIR. This amazing chair is made from 100% natural rattan over a ba! mboo fra me. This unique piece of furniture was handcrafted by the finest artisans in Asia, taking several days to create. It is a beautiful addition to any space in your yoga studio, home, office or spa. The dimensions are approximately 20" high, 34" wide and 28" deep so it doesn't dominate or impose upon your quiet meditation space. You will feel more peaceful as soon as you sit down in this chair.

The design of this meditation chair is made to reflect the way we look when sitting in lotus during your yoga or meditation practice. Additionally, the design enables you to sit comfortably in an upright position with back support into the upper thoracic spine (depending on your height). You will feel your hips relaxing after about 5 minutes in the chair. The unique design of this meditation chair also promotes correct positioning of the body which helps to establish more effective breathing patterns, which is a tremendous health benefit for all of us. It also provides us with an opportunity to achieve deeper levels of meditation. This style of meditation chair is often selected by gurus and for those who meditate a great deal. Also comes with cushion and weighs 22lbs.

All 4 of these beautiful chairs are available to you. The Chair links are below. I have done my research and this webstore offers these chairs at the lowest price available because they offer free shipping, so the price you see, is the price you pay, while others are charging an additional charge to get it to you. Hope you enjoy your new meditation chairs.

Are Yoga Mats for Men?

Posted: 18 Dec 2011 06:00 PM PST

Article by tommack

With health and exercise concerns spiking over the last few years, yoga has greatly increased in popularity among both men and woman from all age groups. Men are only the latest to realize the benefits of practicing yoga and are often hindered from joining a yoga program by the thought that there is a dearth of equipment available for their gender. When you sit at a desk, the three curves of your spine may round or compress. If you tend to lean forward in your seat or rest your elbows on your desk, you may be exaggerating the curve of your cervical spine and rounding your thoracic spine.

Yoga poses are exciting and help aging people get fitter and feel younger, which would be directly proportional to their active sex lives. In order to find about these yoga exercises, look up DVDs, tapes, guides and books. Yoga is healthy for all sorts of people and ages and it helps improve one's overall state of healthiness. Cat and Cow pose are two of the main staples of yoga. They help elongate the spine and stretch the muscles of the abdomen and back. While they are traditionally performed on your hands and knees on the floor, you can easily do them more discreetly while sitting at your desk.

Just because some of the more advanced yoga positions may look scary, you should not miss out on the benefits yoga can provide. As we learn more about the human body, tailoring certain exercise routines to specific results has become easier. For the most part yoga is made up of doing various stretches in a number of positions. This in turn relaxes different muscles in the body depending on which type of stretch you are doing at any given moment. These can be extremely helpful in maintaining inner peace as well as physical well-being.

In addition, the practitioners and teachers of Yoga should never forget the real philosophy behind Yoga. Yoga is much more than physical exercise to keep your heart healthy and remove stress from life. These are but the side effects of a truer and larger goal, which is,! as the word encompasses, the union of body, mind and soul. It is said, according to Hindu beliefs, that the Lord Shiva, one of the three paramount gods of the Hindu trilogy and the destroyer of all that is evil, promulgated the concepts of Yoga and he passed this knowledge on to his consort, the Goddess Parvati, as he believed that no one heard him.

I can remember a couple years back when the company I was running went into full gear starting in September right through the beginning of January. We were shipping product all over the country into distribution centers of major retailers for the holiday season and dropshipping product to consumers for their holiday gift giving. The other end of the cycle of the seemingly infinite capacity your lungs have of inhaling more oxygen is made possible by your lungs' absorption of the air in them. Passage of oxygen into the blood makes it possible for you to inhale infinitely just like the expulsion of carbon dioxide made it possible for you to breathe out seemingly forever.

If You Love to Meditate Then You Need to Look Into Obtaining Meditation Cushions

Posted: 18 Dec 2011 03:00 PM PST

Article by Annie Deakin

For a plethora of years, people that are engaged in meditation have used meditation cushions to enhance their experience. These cushions have a major impact, and make an immense difference of your meditation period being something that you enjoy doing or resulting to something that you simply despise to do.

The meditation cushions make your meditation period a lot more enjoyable. They allow you the opportunity to practice solely on the meditating that you are commencing in. You will be able to enjoy a deeper sense of meditation because your body will inadvertently be a in a comfortable stature.

When one commences in meditation, they basically are trying to eliminate any outside factors that may interfere with the process. If you find yourself in a state of discomfort then your meditation period will not be everything that it should be. Your main focus should be at the task at hand, not your comfort level.

These meditation cushions are commonly referred to as a Zafus. Their underlying purpose to allow the person that is using them to be able to be in a more comfortable predicament during their meditation period.

The cushions allow you to consistently be in the lap of comfort during your meditation sessions. They provide the proper amount of support that your body needs to be engaged in. The cushions allow you the opportunity to keep your spine perfectly aligned and they eliminate the cause for any discomfort distractions.

Many people who avidly meditate without the utilization of the meditation cushions have reported feeling extreme discomfort in their lower backs; knees and many have also experienced annoying joint pains all over their body. They also reported that they were unable to allow themselves to fall subject to a deep source of meditation as they had intended on doing.

Everyone knows that whenever anyone finds themselves in a state of discomfort it can be a daunting task to try to concentrate on what you should be doing. Therefore many people that have! tried m editation without the aid of the meditation cushions, often times cease the task because of the comfort level.

These people are never able to experience the full extent and joy that meditation can bring to their lives, simply because the overwhelming discomfort takes over.

When it comes to choosing what meditation cushions will be right for you, you need to take into account where you engage in your meditation at. If you meditate outside on the hard ground, then obviously you are going to want a softer cushion in order for you to perform the task.

Inadvertently the meditation cushion that you decide on will be made to fit your underlying comfort level. So the harder the surface underneath your feet the thicker the cushion should be so it can provide you a maximum amount of comfort when you need it the most.

Meditation cushions are an important tool to have to anyone who simply adores the act of meditating. The cushions ensure that your comfort is taken into account, and they will also assure that your spine remains correctly aligned at all times.

Meditation, Spiritual Healing and You

Posted: 18 Dec 2011 01:02 PM PST

Article by Stephen Frost

Meditation has formed an important part of many cultures for thousands of years, the importance of its practice being noted as important on spiritual, emotional and physical levels. The practice of meditation has been widely documented to be beneficial to reducing stress levels, improving health on a physical level and to empower the individuals practising with a greater level of spiritual fulfilment. In regards to references that have been made with improved physical healing much of that can be further linked to improved emotional wellbeing and stress reduction. By reducing stress our bodies attain a healthier frequency of being, and as such creates a way of being that reduces physical dis-ease.Meditation can affect people over many different levels, with each person taking a varying level of effect from the meditation they do. In short we are all individuals, and as such achieve differing effects from the meditation we do. Though we do share common links through a diverse variety of things we do all react and behave differently to different stimulus. This is a strong point to note when you are first starting out with meditation, your results are likely to be different to other peoples. Some people take to meditation faster than others, and everyone goes to slightly different depths with it. Spiritual healers within the various cultures that still have them, go to a very deep level of trance and meditation when they are working, yet often they can so in what many would class as a waking state. Monks and others seeking enlightenment can reach levels where they go to very deep meditative states for days, free of the need for water or food due to the way they have shifted their energy levels. So whatever duration and depth you can go to and wish to go to with your meditation is totally ok, when you start out take it easy on yourself and be gentle in terms of what you do.Initially many people find that they go into a light trance, similar to the level that a person may experience whilst watching tel! evision or fish swimming in a tank. So if you are feeling that you are still conscious that's ok, the more you meditate the easier it becomes and the deeper you can go. Also you may find that using Guided Meditations, either via C.D. or mp3, are a very good way to start meditating. By using a Guided Meditation you can clear your conscious mind out of the way more easily as you just follow the words and voice of the person guiding you. This is the reason that meditation groups are a very good place for people to initiate their journey with meditation, being with a teacher who can guide you and share information with you as you begin meditating can bring you a greater state of ease and confidence with your practise. The main thing is to start off with something that is comfortable for you, be that Guided Meditation CDs and mp3s, a meditation group or just taking time quietly on your own as you learn to meditate is fine. Meditation is something that is meant to be easy, relaxing and beneficial for stress reduction, so go easy on yourself when you are learning to meditate. Then as you get further into you meditation practice you can take it further and go to greater depths, always though meditation is something to be enjoyed, something to bring you happiness and calmness. Whatever level you are and wherever you are starting from, be you just starting to learn to meditate or going to deeper spiritual places I wish you well with your journey. Enjoy your meditations and the calmness they bring to your life, Namaste!
