This July 9-15, for the first time ever, the Chopra Center for Wellbeing is bringing its signature meditation and yoga retreat – Seduction of Spirit – to Chicago, where co-founder Dr. Deepak Chopra, master Chopra Center instructors, and renowned guest teacher and author Mike Dooley will guide participants in a week of deep meditation, yoga for body-centered restful awareness, and other life-transforming mindfulness practices.

The theme of this July's Chopra Center retreat is "Your Pathway to Happiness," and throughout the week there will be special sessions and activities focused on moving beyond obstacles and creating a life of authentic fulfillment, purpose, and joy.

"Life today is fast-paced and full of distractions, and many people have lost their connection to their most reliable guide to happiness and well-being – their own intuition and inner clarity," said Deepak Chopra. "At the Chopra Center, we created Seduction of Spirit as a retreat where people could slow down, immerse themselves in present moment awareness, and learn time-proven tools for reconnecting to their deepest self.

"Each day, through meditation, yoga, and other practices, we will move beyond the noisy thoughts, emotions, and memories that fill the mind, diving into the stillness and silence of expanded awareness . . . into the timeless source of happiness that doesn't depend on our outer circumstances," Dr. Chopra said.

"Seduction of Spirit: Your Pathway to Happiness" will take place this July 9-15 at Eaglewood Resort in Spa, in Itasca. Special pricing on the all-inclusive packages for the event and accommodations ends on May 30.

This July's Seduction of Spirit: Your Pathway to Happiness is especially designed for anyone who wants to begin or deepen their practice of meditation, yoga, and other practices for releasing stress and opening to new levels of awareness, inner calm, and joy. The retreat features:
  • Instruction by Deepak in an advanced meditation sutra practice
  • Seven Spiritual Laws of Yoga classes led by Chopra Yoga–Vancouver Director, Danielle Mika Nagel
  • Instruction in Primordial Sound Meditation and your personal mantra
  • Interactive sessions with Mike Dooley, a renowned teacher and author of Notes from the Universe
  • Daily exploration of the Seven Spiritual Laws of Success
  • Time for self-reflection and rejuvenation

Effective, Mindful Parenting in the 21st Century

Posted: 25 May 2012 06:00 PM PDT

It is often said that it takes a village to raise a child, but mothers and fathers nonetheless play an undeniable, crucial role in a child's development. In her welcome new guide, "Happy Parents – Happy Children: Practical Guide for Parents" (published by Balboa Press), childcare professional Kristina Lukawska shows parents how to establish authority based on mutual respect and open communication.

As the mother of two, Lukawska found herself experiencing the same fears, frustrations and guilt that many parents face. She devoted years to meditation and spiritual growth in order to obtain a new perspective on childrearing. Gaining insight into her own behavior allowed Lukawska to begin letting go of old habits and focus on becoming a more respectful, compassionate and loving parent.

"Happy Parents – Happy Children" sets itself apart from other books on parenting through its combination of real-life anecdotes from the author's personal life, discussion of research on different parenting techniques and exercises to help readers build inner strength as they work to fulfill their children's needs.

"More clearly than in any other relationships, we can see ourselves in the relationships with our children," Lukawska writes. "We can see our tenderness, affection, devotion and persistence, but also our helplessness, uncertainty, anxiety, great hopes and unfulfilled dreams. The more self-aware we are, the more conscious of our expectations, fears and concerns, the less probable it becomes that we burden our children with them."

Bad parenting isn't destined to repeat itself as long as moms and dads are willing to take a journey of self-exploration and growth. Lukawska arms parents with the tools for making lasting, positive changes in this accessible new nonfiction.

About the Author
Kristina Lukawska has been working as a psychotherapist, educator and parenting coach for more than 25 years. She has also completed numerous training workshops and created her own series of parenting classes. Lukawska is passionate about empowering parents to become conscious, mindful caregivers.
